Forum MVP jfolks Posted December 1, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 we're ready when he is! Can't wait! that statement got me wonderin... how many girl tapers were/are there? (the sociology student in me wonders) why are tapers predominately male? maybe because females would rather focus on dancing?
Guest captain420
Not too many women trading shows through the mail either... Maybe because you gotta be REALLY into the music to want to capture/preserve/distribute the music to others, and that doesn't catch many woman's attention...? Their mind is somewhere else and not on setting up a rig ect...
Guest DEAD HEAD
that statement got me wonderin... how many girl tapers were/are there? (the sociology student in me wonders) why are tapers predominately male? maybe because females would rather focus on dancing? I think they may be intimidated by the electronics...that stuff tends to be a guy thing or like you say they would rather be dancing ...interesting though...I saw many good taper helpers at the shows in my day (tapers girlfriends), they should probably be considered co-tapers ... Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted December 1, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 Don't think I have ever seen a female taper in all my years of following the Dead and DSO now. We taped back in the days with the Dead and were in the thick of the mic stand forest, and no chicks! I disagree however with captain420 - in that I have aquired some good tape trades, etc from some very cool women both now and in the past. I think you are right about the techie end of it possibly - I know my wife understands why people record the shows, she jut wants to know why I need thousands of hours. I keep hoping I don't ever have to make the choice if I could only have one live show on my desert island. LOL. Tapers Rule. I have gotten some good sounding Dead shows off archive that were recorded by none-other-than Rob Eaton. and the Rob Eaton/Charlie Miller combo is a win-win situation!!! Live Music Rules!
