Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted November 25, 2008 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 25, 2008 hey now Dead Head - check your pm inbox. I just got home from working all night. I just sent you a message telling you both softwares that are free on the net to get you into the flac file download mode!!! It's really not that bad once you have done it once. Its worth it, cause it opens many more doors for shows of all kinds of bands on sites other than archive, such as bt.etree.org, etc. Look in your inbox brother. Peace, Bernie

Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted November 25, 2008 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 25, 2008 Torrents are a great way to rock! I look at it as just a little bit furthur than you've gone before... I still remember the first show I pulled off and the smile that came over my face when I realized I had figured it out! The Wheel Is Turnin' and You Can't Slow It Down...

Guest Mind Of A Squirrel
Torrents? Not on the Archive. Just straight, good old-fashioned downloading. Piece of cake. Just click on as many of the files as you can download at once and go to town. With Firefox, I can sometimes get as many as 7 files downloading at once. Put them all in a folder, and download the text file also. Also, save yourself the hassle of converting/burning Flac files. Just save the Flacs and play them using Winamp with the Flac plugin... Archive your Flacs to DVD to save space on your drive. http://www.winamp.com/player http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/131643 I've stopped buying CD-Rs entirely. You can fit 4 to 5 complete 3+ hour shows on a blank DVD as Flac data. Now I keep everything on DVD, plus a large number of shows on an external/portable SimpleTech USB hard drive that I swap-out a little bit at a time when I get tired of whatever I have on there. Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted November 29, 2008 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 yep, you can definitely save as flac files and store lots on DVD, but I decode to allow me to burn to CD to be able to play on my home system and my van. I just run my PC through my home system... Of course, the occasional disc for the car is nice... The other option if putting Flac on your iPod and running that in the car. Need a big capacity iPod though. I would love for them to come out with a car system that you can plug an external drive into, and some sort of software to play these files that way... Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted November 29, 2008 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 oh yeah-- I do all my downloading on my laptop. I have the laptop connected to my home "System". I play all my CDs and Cassettes through a Tascam CC-222 Mk III Cassette and CD recorder/player. I run a full 3-way PA system with 2400 watts, so plenty of headroom. I have a Mackie CFX12 stereo mixing console going through a dBX 266XL stereo compressor limiter. Running that through a mackie 1400i Stereo Power Amp feeding a pair of 2-way Peavy SP2A speaker cabs each with a 15" and a horn for the high end. I have a Crown C1000E Power Amp going into JBL MPro 418S 18" subwoofers. By having my laptop connected to it, also allows me to play the stream only shows from the archive. Sound is just like being there. Whether its Phil bombs or Kevin bombs - the low end is exceptional and everything else is totally awesome sounding. I love my live music here! ...I think your idea of being able to connect a portable hard drive to car audio system is stellar!!!

I actually don't get so much time to listen to music at home, but I *do* listen 8 hours a day, 5 days a week while I work, so that portable drive is like heaven. I used the Winamp setup with the plugin, and run it all through my Sony MDR-V6 studio headphones. It's great, but when you run into something in mono, or out of balance, it's kind of irritating to deal with though the headphones. Most of the home music involves downloading and transferring in my little basement studio full of a hodge-podge of random equipment, a board, and yet another PC. Unfortunately, the family doesn't like my music so much...
Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted November 29, 2008 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 i just like the flow of CDs, that's why I burn the shows to disc. It gets crazier yet here too - I actually have a couple outboard rack effects digital delay/reverbs - so if I want to add more ambience to any shows on playback, I have the ability to do that too. My wife still thinks I am crazy for my thousands of hours of live shows but she knows there are worse addictions! LOL. She is onboard with the DSO train however. She loves this band too. I met her way after the Dead days of my past. She never saw the Dead live, but she knows that DSO does it best now. My dog Kosar (English Springer Spaniel) seems to like the music ok too. Yeah- the mountains upon mountain of huge CD-R spindles full of discs, sitting on top of the piles and piles of old tape cases, vinyl, etc. etc. etc. is what finally drove me to enter the 21st century and find ways to run everything from digital files. I can't go back now. You can still run your effects this way too... just have to put it in the right place in your chain of gear is all... Wife is happy I'm not naggin her for a new spindle of blanks every time I turn around!
