Guest jazz-man
As a kid growing up in Ontario I was a Maple Leaf fan. Back then, in that town, if you spoke English you were a Leafs fan, if you spoke French you cheered for Les Canadiens. When the Edmonton Oilers formed (actually the Alberta Oilers in the WHA days. It must have choked Calgarians to cheer for a team from Edmonton) I immediately changed allegiance since I identify more with Western Canada and I was headed to college in Edmonton. Long story, I was lucky enough to live there when Gretzky and the boys KICKED ASS on a nightly basis. He was the best player I've ever seen, head and shoulders above anyone I've seen before or since. He made everyone who played with him better. Even their goon, Dave "Cement Head" Semenko scored goals when he was put on Wayne's line fer chrissakes! This year we're off to a 4-0 start. Being a small market team it's tough to watch your young players develope into starts and then leave for the big bucks. Today's system is a little more equitable to compete. Bottom line: GO OILERS! waynecs
With the Phils making a playoff run I was not at all ready for hockey season and apparently the Flyers weren't either.
Band Member robbok3 Posted October 22, 2008 Band Member Report Share Posted October 22, 2008 You probably won't ever meet a bigger hockey fan than myself. Still play two nights a week when we are off the road. Played on as many as three teams at once back in my younger days. I was even the stick boy for the St. Louis Blues for two seasons, waaaaaaaaaayyyyy back when. Playing in two fantasy leagues, both of which include my good, keyboard playing friend, Dan Klepinger (LACES OUT, DAN!!!!!!!!) While I think, Detroit and San Jose should come out of the West, and Montreal and the Pens out of the East, the Blues are going to surprise some people this year. They aren't ready for a playoff run yet, but I think they will make the playoffs for the first time in while. The rebuilding process is in full swing. GO BLUES!!! On my way out now. Going to see Blues-Wings tonight. PEACE BTW -As much as I hate them, the Hawks are an exciting team this year.
pwpolk
My family got NY Islander season tickets in 1975 and we watched the amazing run against Toronto and then the Flyers where they finally lost in game 7 against Kate Smith! I remember going to Brian Trottier's first NHL game in 77 where he scored a hat trick (why wasn't I on tour back then! - Cornell was just up the road!). Then of course 4 amazing Stanley Cup years. Since then, safe to say its been a bit thin around the old Coliseum. Living in New York, I can honestly admit that I appreciated the Rangers run in 94 and what it did to energize hockey but that aside..... THE RANGERS SUCK! stlblues
Another bizarre accident for the St. Louis Blues. First a golf cart takes out our top defensemen and now a Sarah Palin visit to the game last night takes out our top goalie. WTF!!! http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...2B?OpenDocument http://stltoday.mycapture.com/mycapture/en...ategoryID=38578

Band Member robbok3 Posted October 28, 2008 Band Member Report Share Posted October 28, 2008 You are correct, SIR. My first game at the Garden. Now I have seen three, and they all have been against Tampa. Go figure that one out. One of them was the night the Jaromir Jagr scored his 500th NHL goal, so that was a cool little piece of history. GO BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guest jazz-man
My Oilers stared out 4-0 and now have lost 5 in a row. This sucks. Maybe the young lads have been reading the favorable early season press instead of playing their hearts out.

Guest jazz-man
I went to see the Portland Winterhawks WHL hockey tean the other day and man was it nice to see live hockey again! Even if it's junior hockey. Some of the guys seemed to have the right stuff for the NHL and it was cool to see the skills. The couple of fights were nothing to write home about.
