Guest rollnaway
i was going to say the same thing about jordanhahaha hope it was enjoyable it certainly looks like a grate set how was the here comes sunshine? The sunshine was thick and expansive. Exactly why I love 73 sooooo much. The playin shared the same rich fullness of the sunshine. Basically, any show that starts of with a rockin' promised land for the first set and a juicy loose lucy to open second set is bound to be fun. I can't express how much fun I had during the spaciness of the second set oooooh china doll aaaaaah eyes and bouncing out of that into you ain't woman enough in a classic western swing mecca such as the Cain's Ballroom was all to much. I've never boogied with such abandon. Met Rob Barraco after the show. Definitely as nice a guy as you would imagine. Met a fellow fan out there to who kept telling me what a great show we had put on. He kept encouraging me to come back to the Cain's. I gave him a big hug and assured him that I would be back. Back to sunday cleaning now.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted September 21, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 21, 2008 The road circumstances haven't been all that condusive to long, thoughtful detailed Jordan reviews. So, here's mine - Lots of space for epic dancing. As has probably been noted elsewhere, no filler.
Forum MVP james Posted September 21, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 21, 2008 really felt the country western roots in the air, aided by the large black and white photos of old time musicians hanging around the venue. plenty of space to ballroom dance as the sign out the front door suggested. my body could barely keep up with the marathon of songs. legs felt like wet noodles by the end. really enjoyed hanging out at Mexicali's before the show with gary and connie and my tour crew and the sangria
Forum MVP HelpSlip Posted September 22, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 22, 2008 gotta love the 73 shows, this one was spectacular, plentyyyyyyyyyyy of dancing space, only about 300 in capacity, about 100 by the end of the show..the HCSunshine was absolutely shining, cant really describe the Eyes with words, the Playin was very far out there, the Stella was beautiful, the JStraw fitting for Tulsa with a hugeeee peak, the China Doll was also liquifying... great start to the weekend right here!!! drove back to Jordan's for a rest.... Forum MVP jfolks Posted September 22, 2008 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 22, 2008 tulsa was a really great way to start my leg of the tour. tulsa was an extremely surreal experience... it was like the old days, like 2+ years ago when you could see dso in some random SW venue with only 200 people there.. dancing space was not an issue whatsoever. im mean at any given time you had a 5 foot radius until the next person. lisa cat's stat makes me laugh- after 36 shows, ive seen at least 4 one drummer shows (hell- i already had seen 2 by my 10th show)... that being said, one-drummer shows are my least favorite type.. mainly because DSO is just so much more powerful with both drummers onstage. however, dso never disappoints- so the show was incredible as usual, which is becoming par for the course (either a show is just incredible, or its holy f**in shitballs i just got my brain melted and then shipped to the moon in a rocket ship). as previously noted, the crowd was really small.. but you could tell the band really wanted to give the micro-crowd its money's worth, so they really kicked it into high gear... i was really appreciative of kortiz's drumming- extremely masterful, complex, and powerful. i mean when el paso rocks, you know this band is good. they seemed to be stretching the songs out- or at least having a good time exploring the musical universe of each tune... alot of the songs seemed like pretty long versions- so there were several barnburners where everyone was pretty much speechless after it. for example i love the 73 fast TLEOs.. but their one draw back is that they are kinda short.. well as dso did with several "short" songs that night, they just soared along, extending jams and solos- i said to Torin that it was the "longest fast TLEO" i had ever heard- put simply, it fuckin rocked. every song was pretty much awesome- with HC sunshine being particularly epic and well-received.. and playin was super trippy.. everything in the second set was good, but some highlights- a jstraw with a monumental peak, an insane big river, an extremely strong eyes a la 73, a beautiful and soaring china doll, and an unexpected and amazing woman enough (the second time i have seen this song- the first time was my first show at cains in 04- interesting that this rare gem gets played twice in DSO's three visits to Cains). dso stepped on stage just after 8:30 and finished Casey Jones just after 12:30am... i was a little surprised that there was no filler/encore... but i was frickin beat by that time, and considering i had two more shows to go, i wasnt disappointed in the least.. all in all a top notch show... local heads are still raving about the show.. all newbies were converted. show was followed by some waffle house debauchery.. which spilled over into our chinese lunch.. chew, swallow, then laugh is the lesson of the day.. good times, yall!
