Tom
Ever hear of Cabinet? They're a young bluegrass band from northeast PA that really kicks it. If you get a chance, give 'em a listen and definitely check them out live when you're in the area. They'll be doing a show (free!) on the deck at Penn's Peak on August 7th. Hope to see some of you there!! http://www.archive.org/details/Cabinet2008...27.4022.portico

Tom
Here's another show from last week. This one was smokin'..... there's some minor glitches with the recording, but it's still pretty good. If only the guy with the big mouth wasn't right under the mikes..... Oh, the date is actually the 12th, too... http://www.archive.org/details/cabinet2008-07-13 http://ia311311.us.archive.org/3/items/cab...3s2t05_64kb.mp3

jackjones
I love bluegrass. Check these guys out. http://www.thepondbrothers.com/ They got their humble beginnings in Boone, NC and made the natural migration to Asheville. They have countless side projects which often include people like Larry Keel, Acoustic Syndicate, and so forth. Plus, they get followed around by a small hula hooping mafia "Asheville Hoops" which always lightens the mood... "The Snake Oil Medicine Show" was their original band name, but best I can tell it is just an array of side projects and spinoffs at this point. Not only are they fantastic songwriters and musicians, but these guys are salt-of-the-earth types. Here is one on George Pond overseeing an ashevillian repairing an accordian that he said needed more accordian fluid (?) (click & pop:) That guy on the right used to do sound for YMSB, but fell in love with an old college friend from App State and now works with Acoustic Syndicate and family. This picture was taken a few months back at the Emerald Lounge in Asheville, NC. ~
Tom
Thanks for the link. They sound great! Do they ever tour furthur north? I would definitely go to see them if they weren't so far away.... Here's a video of Cabinet doing a tune we all know very well: And here's some more videos from the World Musiq Festival in Thailand earlier this year. This is an original called "The Tower". Look to the right under "related videos" to view more. And if anyone is interested in seeing them for free, they'll be playing on the deck at Penn's Peak (Jim Thorpe, PA) on August 7th. Free admission, $2 Magic Hats (at least there was this week), 1/2 price appetizers.... you can't go wrong.... I'll be there for sure... Enjoy.....
