Guest Rob Eaton
The great thing about music is that it's so subjective. It might move me and not you and that's OK. I'd walk out of a Dead show back in the day and say "that sucked" while my friend would say "best show I've seen". Botth are right because there is no right... If it moves you then the music has done it's job. I have no idea what we did on Sunday..... I was at and yes taping 6/30/83 Meryweather and yes it was a great show. For me that night the highlight was Wharf Rat and China->RIder. The lightning hitting the pavilion and causing the power to spike during the Rat was amazing also being escorted through the forest by the state police to the lower parking lot (walking bridges washed away) was certainly trippy. Phil droped many bombs. My favorite Sugar Mag that I saw and still think is the best was 5/5/77. The sunshine daydream still moves me........ I'm off to Oakland with 5.5 ready to go in the car and I'm ready to be moved! Speaking of being moved--if anyone isn't moved to live a better life after hearing THAT Wharf Rat then I have to question our existence here on earth. How was Phil able to respond to that lightning LESS than a beat later with one of the most powerful bombs ever dropped in music history? And the audience going absolutely bonkers in response to mother nature's explosion combined with that Lesh explosion? Pure, unadulterated magic! And thank you Rob Eaton!!!! and all the others for taping those shows (still can't believe that some of them are not in the vault).

Forum MVP New York Steve Posted November 13, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 Same old negative BS ????? Had a ball at Ridgefield both nights and I didn't run into anyone who was there for anything but fun and music. Really impressed with the crowd both nights. Then again we were in CT : ))))) Safe allAnth What I would get from the above posts, is that people tend to chime in on reviews who weren't even at shows and it feels rather negative. I know that I have never left a show disappointed and I left many a dead show disappointed; we would not be having this discussion without the Dead, but I think that goes without saying, as Mr. Eaton eloquently pointed out, we all get something different from the music. I actually enjoyed the three shows before the 10th more than the actual show but I would never disparage anyone for thinking that the 10th was far superior. Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted November 13, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 sugar magnola was the hottest version, EVER played by ANYONE..... period....... periodlisa was unbelieveable also she rocked strange man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it a persons viewpoint.... then they should write before hand .... "for me" .. or "my personal viewpoint" I see it as getting on a high horse and putting words in capitol letters... come on... No question music is to the ear of the person who is the one who listens to it... but why single me out... dstone your buddy ?? ..... bringing the fact that I was not at the show... ouch you hurt my feelings.. come on dude... chill.. anger is a sign of jealousy.... relax and your harsh words just make me laugh..... and say to myself... someone needs medicine ... OK .... fire back at me and I promise I will allow it and not respond....
Forum MVP Tinkerbell Posted November 13, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 If it a persons viewpoint.... then they should write before hand .... "for me" .. or "my personal viewpoint" DSO Reviews Just got back from a DSO show and got some energy to burn? Why not let the rest of us know what you thought? wouldn't that be redundant?????? correct me if i'm wrong a review is an opinion.......... you weren't at the show so how could you say anything about it!!!! you singled yourself out, because, you weren't there. "I am with you my friend... some people forget what the GRATEFUL DEAD did !!!" "some people" merely pointed out that it would basically imposible for them to forget what was done.... and as we spoke of before....... since when do i have to do everything according to "your" rules.....now i can't use caps, and i"m allowed to fire back and you won't respond...what would you respond to???? let's just leave the anger/jealous thing off the table... i'm not looking for an endless pissing match....... just don't tell me how and what to post ..... my medicine is shows, and yes, you are 100% right..... you should get the same perscription....... hope to see both of us at the same medication........ I'm going to go get my hands on 5/5/77 as well.. 5/5/77 is truly an epic show...The Sugaree ranks up there with the best of them! That show was the beginning of the best run of any live music I have ever experienced.

pwpolk
Just to chime in on the old Sugar Mag discussion which has now flourished into all sorts of areas.... The beauty of all this and this fourm in general is that it stirs good debate. How boring when everyone has the same opinion anyway. I could see it be released someday, people would be talking about it for along time , just like 5-19-07 . maybe in a 10 year annaversery package with a dvd with rare interview with chuckie v. peace- every one get to another show , it'll do yous all good. steve
Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted November 15, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 I for one have spent the last few months honing my procrastination skills by casually searching archives for the definitive 1/2 Step for no particular reason (So far, Englishtown 77 amazingly holds off all comers although 5-5-77 is no slouch and William & Mary 78 makes a valiant stand towards the end). I've been honing my procrastination skills lately too. I'm sure you have 5.7.77 on the short list for Half Step but just in case... edit--just realized that you probably meant 5.7 but 5.5 was on the brain... Forum MVP FunkyBass13 Posted November 15, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 For me, personally, the best ever played has always been the last one I saw. As Rob said, its all subjective. I have listened to shows that I was at and thought, that was absolutely horrible. Yet, when I think back on the show or discuss it with someone I was with, I easily remember what an awesome time I had. Ahhh, the beauty if live music: hits everyone differently, lifts the spirit like nothing else, and leaves you with nothing left to do but One of the things that I love about the "best ever" discussions is that it creates discussion that inevitably leads to listening to more great music. Do we really think that if we got Bobby, Phil, Mikey and Bill in the same room right now, they could agree on their best show? Best version of a song? Best anything? Doubtful. But I bet that discussion could even lead them to go back and check out something they had probably forgotten about. I wasn't at the show, but I would love to hear a copy.
