Forum MVP Tea Posted March 29, 2021 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 29, 2021 Jerry Garcia Music Arts and Malcolm Leo Productions have announced a new documentary project they are co-producing, titled Jerry Garcia, Artist. The film centers around a 1987 interview with Garcia and will also include “never-before-seen footage of the private thoughts and reflections of Jerry Garcia,” according to a statement. The interview in question was directed by Leo himself and shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter at Front Street Studios in San Rafael, Calif. According to a press release, “the documentary captures Garcia at a peak moment as he eloquently reflects about the life he lived and the music he loved to make. He was unabashedly open to a wide array of subjects, offering a ‘nothing-off-limits’ interview. The documentary provides a journey into Garcia’s private world through his personal musings, drawings and insights, including unpublished diary entries, rare family photos and home movies and newly discovered performances.” “We envision an uplifting, immersive experience focused on my father’s art and music,” said Keelin Garcia, Jerry Garcia’s daughter, coproducer of the project and president of Jerry Garcia Music Arts in a statement. “The story is authentic. My father narrates the film in his own words, directly to the audience.” “This project is a labor of love for all involved,” added Leo. “And it is the fulfillment of a promise I made to Jerry long ago to do something special with the footage. The film will honor one of the country’s most beloved musical heroes and cultural icons.” According to a press release, Garcia’s family contributed visual art and music to the new documentary. In addition, the project will include a charitable element, benefitting the Jerry Garcia Foundation. The announcement did not set a release date.
