So, you got me thinking. I wonder what tunes Jerry did the lyric flub on the most. I’m guessing Bobby wins with Truckin’ . I’m thinking maybe Jack Straw for Jerry. I’m not interested in newer tunes late in the run. Jerry was worn the fuck out by then. I’m talking about earlier when it can’t necessarily be blamed on the drugs. (He said, with a straight face) I’m wondering if any tunes made it through unscathed.

I always thought it was pretty classic when they opened with Jack Straw, first line of the show, and Garcia is immediately in a hole, lol.

WATCHMAN, Jerry, the Watchman!

You have to escape, plus get some money before you can start your adventure.

That was fucking great Eventho it was a little off as a band,  but I loved this. is that Brent or Jerry laughing? Either way it was a nice way to start my day and put a big smile on my face

Agree with John, that is Brent first laughing loudly on that recording.

Glad you enjoyed it, Vic.  It sort of fucked with me for a minute when it happened, given how unexpected it was and, well, other factors.

Brokedown made everything as smooth as can be, though.  As it tends to do.

Irving Plaza was my first show after my dad died. 4/29/2011. 40 year anniversary of the original date. This was the last Alligator performed by the Grateful Dead. Show was preannounced in an era where DSO rarely did that.

4/13/86-  Terrapin Station.

Jerry walks off stage after the 1st verse of Terrapin. The band is taken by surprise and recovers by switching into Don’t Need Love.  Jerry did return after space but only sang Black Peter.  Many rumors about the reason for walking off but to my knowledge nothing was confirmed.

Reminds me of a story I heard about a year later. Supposedly in Ohio, Jerry’s playing like shit, Bobby walks over and kicks him in the ass. Jerry walks over behind a speaker where a guy has a mirror with a white powdery substance on it. Jerry leans down, consumes the substance, and goes back on stage and proceeds to play incredibly. Just a story, I was not there.

8/28/88 Eugene OR

On the opening song Mississippi halfstep

”on the day that I was born...saddyy dat down and cried”

I was listening and said wait a minute did I just hear that lmao. I did hear it so I looked  into it and read some reviews of people at the show and they were like ohhh no not this early Jerry..the opening song!!!.

That was it tho, turned out to be a good show from checking more into it.

In Jamaica one time whitney and I had finally emerged from our chambers and headed to the pool bar. Nicky and Ellie plus Koritz and a few others are in hot tub. Nicky says something to me and I go to respond I’ve learned to smile and nod but what actually comes out is Nile and smod. We got drinks and retreated back to chambers.

I was at that show. Afternoon show with Jimmy cliff and Robert cray band. And on my birthday, no less. It was a stadium show and hot as a mofo that day so luckily I wasn't paying close enough attention to hear that from Jer, but no secret it was a rough year for him performance wise.😅

6/24/85 TLEO. Jerry hums 2 straight verses. He usually figures something out after a while missed verse. Nope. 2 straight hums. If you didn’t know dead you may not know it’s a flub.

6/24/85, Jerry had bigger waves in mind, he was getting ready to unleash that second set, but a great reason to go back and give this show a listen, especially an audience version. I mean let's admit tleo had been played like a million times by then. He had his sights on the cryptical,  comes, wharf. Wearing his blue blazer and all. And to be honest I was dosed perfect for this dance fest

That was my first show...definitely don’t remember that detail! I was a bit distracted and overwhelmed by all the energy...definitely didn’t sleep a wink that night with parking lot village in full swing all night....wow what a different era
