A band I saw last night

Rude

Recommended Posts

Went to see Melvin Seals and JGB this past Saturday at the Cap, great time! My first time seeing the full band, the only other time I've seen Melvin was with DSO as his band a couple years ago at the Jubilee.

High energy dance tempo all night long, with a few breaks in the onslaught with some slower songs. Great time to break up the winter between fall Northeast and sorting Northeast DSO, usually go into concert hibernation during winter. I would see them again if they are within an hour or so. Local CT Grateful Dead band Stella Blues Band opened up, which was a lovely surprise in how tight they are and well they played.

20/06/05  In Dead Nation, The Still, Timonium, MD

Brown-Eyed Women, Sugaree, All Over Now, Jack-a-Roe,

Train to Cry, Truckin'> Big RR Blues.

Box of Rain, Scarlet>Fire, Ramble On Rose

Good Love>La Bamba>Good Love.

Brothers and Sisters, Ripple, Midnight Moodlight.

Hooray for live music.  Rain devolves a scheduled

outdoor parking lot show into a COVID 19 set up

of the band in the unopen restaurant section of the

bar with the doors opens and the hungry patrons

in the lot outside in the drizzle.  In what felt like a

hallway show, I spent in the evening in the front of

the double door entrance to place.  A group of about

50 all desperately fed the jones one way or another.

Me and Jessica turned that little area in front of the

door into portal 5 at the Cap Centre.  Felt sooooooo

good to dance to live music.  Truckin, Big Railroad

a juicy combo and the Midnight Moodlight shredded.

Praise DSO.

20/08/01  In DeadNation  The Still,  Timonium, MD

Touch of Grey, Ramble On Rose, Rooster, Althea,

Train To Cry, MAMU, Big River, Bird Song, Brown

Eyed Women, So Many Roads.

China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider,

Crazy Fingers, Box of Rain>Other One>

Jam>Morning Dew.

Fantastic to get some live Dead music for

the Big Man's Birthday.  Band really hit their

stride from the Althea on in the first, the

Bird Song  a spinning dreamscape , and

a credible job  done on the SMR.

China>Rider mashed and things were rolling

along nicely until I felt a few raindrops at

the end of the Other One.  A bumpy landing ensued,

with a ragged Dew ending the night as the

rain drops picked up.  Damn 2020.

Great to see familiar faces, feel family, dance.

I believe Jerry would be proud.

Praise DSO.

Opened the show with a smokin After Midnight > Second That Emotion! Lots of JGB...sitting here in limbo,  struggling man, closed the first with a monster Birdsong.

Second set opener was a Sugar>Scarlet (raged like it was going to be a Fire)then wrapped up Begonias and played a top notch rendition of My Brother Esau,  a Promontory Hyryder show up. Terrapin was big because they were playing right under the moon, shining brightly,  holding away despair. Once the Station was completed they started a wang dang doodle from the ground up, El Paso > Cumberland Blues, they remembered to close the whole show out with Sunshine Daydream. There was a  Catfish John in there along with  Tom Thumb Blues.  I'm really wondering where and when the next show is going to happen?

Starting October 17th masks will no longer be a mandate in Indiana and starting the weekend of 10/30 restaurants and clubs can operate at full capacity.

MC,  in 2016,  you got in a Hyryder show at Stanley's after the Dark Star show at the Taft here in Cincinnati. I  was impressed that you were still rockin for more that night! That's deadication and good health

20/10/02  InDead Nation,  Rec Room,  Towson, MD

Shakedown, They Love Each Other, Dire Wolf, Candyman,

All Over Now, Big Railroad Blues>Train to Cry, Touch,

Terrapin Station.

China>Rider, Cassidy, Crazy Fingers>Uncle John's Band,

Casey Jones, Lovelight, Standing on the Moon, Not Fade,

Brokedown Palace.

Bid You Goodnight.

First Friday of the Month at the Rec Room for the first

time since March.  Took some time to settle in, but liftoff

achieved around the Candyman.  The Big RR again a

highlight, the final jam reaching out to some new ground.

Touch appropriate, and the Cassidy, Crazy>Uncle John

a solid segment of the second.  Great to have some family

at these to run with, we dominated a corner of the bar and

had great sound.  Hooray for live  music.

Praise DSO.

Not keeping lists because all of their show stream on their Facebook page.

I remember:

7pm start, although listed as 7:30

Jack Straw

Sugaree

Greatest Story

Breadbox

Little red Rooster

BE Women

Corrina >

Shakedown (combo look familiar?)

Catfish John

Chinatown Shuffle

Chinacat >

Hyryder>

Victim>

Dark Star>

Wharf rat >

Dark star >

Viola Lee Blues

Unbroken Chain>

Estimated >

Other One

Ride Mighty High >

Easy Wind

A brisk 45 degrees on the river which is probably why they started early. The metal detector wasn't plug in as we entered, my flask of rum made it in. Talk to a head who was 11 years old and at the 1985 riverbend show! He still remembers the rain storm.

Emmylou Harris has two $15.00 live streams coming up for her winery benefit shows in Nashville on November 9th and 10th.  I really want to see these , however,  I'm committed to teaching classes both these nights.  The Red Dirt Boys will be backing her. If it's anything like her Atlanta show last November have some Kleenex close by. Emotional on many levels. I'm glad she's going to have a live audience there also.  She thrives on connecting with a live audience. Do yourself a flavor and make Monday and Tuesday nights something spectacular. I include Emmylou here in DSO world because as much as Jerry was like my father,  brother,  best friend; Emmylou is very similar to me as Jerry was. And I know forum folks here have good musical taste.😎🎶

Oh my, oh my, the scarlet fire finally dropped and closing out a 15 song first? What? Another swath loaded with JGB. I did get the setlist from emmylou's stage last night from the Wine Room in Nashville.  My buddy took his wife for her birthday and Maple gave him the setlist. Only seated 140 lucky ducks. She broke out quite a few rarities. Encored with Big Black Dog since it was a benefit show for Boneparte's Retreat. So glad music is still happening. Thank you Dead duck, I ain't been on Facebook since 2012 so I had no access to what went down Saturday. That was one not to be missed,  sheesh, opening with Tore Up must whipped up quite the frenzy

Unfortunately I couldn’t make this one. This was 1 of the 3 I missed all summer. During the accoustic part of set 1, the keyboard player switches to banjo during been all around this world and cold Jordan and the drummer switches to bass during operator to let their bassist sing for the actual 1st time, nullifying the “let ping sing” shirts that were printed.
