Forum MVP DesertDead Posted June 2, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 2, 2018 Yes, it’s all concrete. Not super steep but the height of each step is abnormally high, so cruising up and down is best done thoughtfully. The rows are are really long, with the ends being the best place to really spread out. The area in the row where one will stand is decent, and not nearly as confining as any number of indoor venues (I’m looking at you, Wilbur). I would add that there is more room to stand in a row at Red Rocks than there is in the pavilion at Alpine, Deer Creek, etc. YMMV

A few minutes latter the band did the most energetic "Bertha" I've ever heard. I had brought along to the show a friend from work that had listen to Grateful Dead music before but never had heard any live. Bruce was esticic about the show...the music..the people he met..the friendliness of everyone. He stepped up on the bus. I bought tickets for my first Grateful Dead show in the parking lot of a James Taylor concert. On the bus four days later. Seven weeks later, snuck through the front door at radio city, tripping my face off on red dragons two weeks old from Berkeley, watching Jerry and the boys play acoustic. Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted June 3, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 Phish, Dave Matthews, little classic rock radio and starting to listen to a lot of Grateful Dead. It was around 18, 19 I found DSO and archive.org. Archive changed my whole perspective from a few shows to 100s. Had a few dicks picks and other live releases before then but holy cow. It was all available now.
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted June 3, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 However I really am about to each their own. I did ween red rocks last year with a good buddy from around here. I wouldn’t go again. Some really dig it. Leave the space for them. My comment was more to poke fun at a friend than to give an honest assessment of Ween. Forum MVP PoetryGirl Posted June 3, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 I found the Dead at 15 and dove into the 60s headfirst. Joni Mitchell, Floyd, CSNY, John Sebastian, Blood Sweat and Tears, Buffalo Springdfield, Cream, Yes, Canned Heat, Hendrix, some Airplane- more than I knewI knew- and started collecting tapes. Kezar 73, RFK and Saratoga 85, Hampton 87, Winterland 73 were some of the first.
Forum MVP Greg from Chestertown Posted June 3, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 Nice. Oh, yea, Yes. My first concert, Yes and Peter Frampton, JFK stadium 1976. My best friend (RIP) was an excellent drummer, turned me on to all kinds of music. A lot of jazz. Tom Scott, Stanley Clarke, Yada, yada, yada. I think we still used Gramophones back then….folk music like The New Christy Minstrels and Broadway sound tracks like “The Music Man” and “Camalot”....first concert was a surprise show in our high school by Bo Diddley

Forum MVP Rude Posted June 5, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 5, 2018 Polka dot whale ftw!!! friends saw ween at the pageant a few days ago. They are a weird band. I figured a weird unique band wouldn’t elicit such a negative response from this crowd. Some of their stuff is hit and miss but if they were at jubilee I’d watch them for sure. I’m sure Gr8tfulpairs son upped his game when he saw them. Double up and most bands are fun. On that note I 1st heard sublime at some camping party around 97ish? We were in a state where music sounded really good and I was blown away by them. Unfortunately a talented artist died way too soon. It makes you wonder that if axl rose had died really young if he’d be worshipped as a music god as opposed to a 1 album wonder. It’s hard to argue with lines like “your daddy works in porno now that mommy’s not around. She used to love her heroin but now she’s underground”. Or “wake up late, honey put on your clothes and take your credit card to the liquor store. That’s 1 for you and 2 for me”. Brilliant misogynist rock star lyric. That’s why people become musicians right? Beat that thread drift suckas.

Joey Bagadonuts
Just realized today that there was a reserved section up front $317 per ticket! Feel a bit duped having purchased VIP for the early entry to get up front in The Skip Zone where we always are.
Forum MVP Rude Posted June 9, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 9, 2018 I don’t think there is reserved seating in front unless axs decided to take the 1st few rows and block them off to sell to some package company. I just looked and don’t see that anywhere. And I just see the packages they were offering earlier. I don’t think you will have any problem finding the spot you want to be at this show. For me I can’t take front row volume anymore. It’s too oppressive. Plus too many try to crowd up there. The back or sides are always a more fun crowd anyway. Forum MVP Rude Posted June 9, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 9, 2018 I know they do that at other bands but don’t think they doing it for Dso. From my experience if a venue allows GA, Dso always does that. One of my fav things about these guys. They let us roam and they give us the longest show in the business. My buddy who just saw ween at the pageant says they played from 8:15 to 10:15 including a set break. He’s dso spoiled too.

If you try and buy tickets you can select reserved or ga and you will see the two remaining reserved seats. I just can’t believe the cost $317 a ticket is robbery. It is reserved seating to the middle of the soundboard.
Forum MVP Rude Posted June 10, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 10, 2018 Yeah. It does show 1st 5 rows reserved. But you can easily get 6th row getting there early. No way I’d spend an extra 100 a ticket to move up a couple rows in a place like redrocks. 15th row is as good as 4th. Waste of money imo.
Forum MVP John A Posted June 10, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 10, 2018 The 15th row is quite probably better than the 4th. Maybe even much better. This discussion is very much a venue to venue thing, but you are MUCH more prone to suffering some sort of bad acoustic issue being very close to the stage than if you were just a bit in front of the sound board. I'm talking about things like extreme bass overload, vocals being very low, and the like. If your goal is good sound, then on a night by night basis that 15th row center seat sounds pretty damned appealing.
Forum MVP robeatondso Posted June 10, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 10, 2018 Firstly the 1st 5 rows I believe were $55. There is no priced ticket that is $317 unless it’s a vip experience ticket which were only $195 I think... those sold out fast. If you were on AXS tickets which I think is the Red Rocks site there should be nothing in that amount.. pS) best rows are 14-24 by the way
Forum MVP Rude Posted June 10, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 10, 2018 I’ll always buy the cheapest seats and move to the best location. It’s a principle thing. Plus I ain’t afraid of an usher saying these aren’t your seats. If they are nice I’ll be like oops, if not I’ll prob be a tad rude. The gf used to be all nervous sitting in other seats. Now she’s spying out areas to move to. I’m proud of the deadhead I birthed. Never heard that until barracos podcast. I’m stealing it. It’s a good line. 9.5 days until hitting the road to Cali!!!! Fuck I’m pumped!!!!! I just need to find a $300k house that’s around 2000 sq ft while I’m out there and I won’t come back. I’m sure those exist near the coast. Joey Bagadonuts
The tickets are no longer available but yesterday the reserved section on AXS showed 2 tickets 3rd row center for $317 each no lie I wish I had taken a screen shot. Not sure how thier ticketing works maybe tickets can be posted for resale and if so fuck that person for marking them up like that.
Forum MVP PoetryGirl Posted June 11, 2018 Forum MVP Report Share Posted June 11, 2018 Especially since the soundboard is located thereabouts..., 15-30th row ;))
