Goin Down the Road>Throwin' Stones>Not Fade Away.

E:  Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Crazy Fingers fake before Box of Rain.

First of two at Dead Dome in Spring 93, what a treat

to see the band in an on campus facility in 1993.

Solid playing throughout, the second set supplying a

little extra juice, the post space even more so.

The band could occasionally blow the doors off even

in this late vintage.

The Chapel Hill tour stop had a good deal to do with me deciding to live here (since 1995)!  The final choice was between Austin, TX and Chapel Hill, NC.  Both are great towns, but I knew being closer to my parents would be a pivot point...

I can't believe how unprepared the town was for the circus 😜  Camping out on the quad was a good time even if the police didn't agree.  Chapel Hill and CalExpo later in the Spring of 1993 were the last good/great shows I would see.  There were some great moments to come but it felt like just moments instead of whole shows.....

Thanks for posting this, Bill ❤️

93/03/25  Dean Smith Center,  UNC,  Chapel Hill, NC

Touch of Grey>Greatest Story, So Many Roads,

Minglewood, Lazy River Road, Mexicali Blues>

Big River, Friend of the Devil, Eternity, Liberty.

China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider,  Women

Are Smarter, Wave to the Wind>Terrapin Station>

Drums>Space>Way to Go Home>Other One>

Morning Dew.

E:  The Weight.

Second of the pair at the Dean Dome.  List riddled

with new material, but I recall the music inspired.

SMR, after some early second set work, mostly a

first set number.  Six of first ten Eternitys were

attached to Liberty.  Wave to the Wind preceded

Terrapin 3 out of 21 total plays.  Way to Go led us

out of space seven times in 93 [4] and 94 [3].

End late song research.  10 song first, 5/3/1 second

with a Dew-solid for 93.  Much like Tea, I consider

these shows among the best of my late vintage

attendances.

Praise DSO.

Would never have guessed Way To Go Home came out of space 7 times.  Thought it was exclusively pre-drums material.  God bless humanity for that tune to drive the coveted transition out of space slot. This prompted my own research re: Wave to the Wind.  Could it have actually come out of space?  Yep.  It did so twice.  Turns out I actually saw one of them. Better to have blocked that kind of shit out I suppose. There are also 2 occasions of Way To Go Home being followed by Wave to the Wind.  Ouch.

Let's not forget Hampton 88 with the first Thin Man and the return of TLMD. This is a really good quality recording. Never miss a Sunday. Security at this series was so lax by the third show we were taking in six packs of brew along with recording equipment and setting up camp on the floor at sweet FOB spot.

Indeed, the sort of thing that one may normally whistle past the graveyard in knowing that I happened to attend both of those shows.  They were both in 1993.

And they were both the 7th out of 7 shows in a row for me.

1.  March 18 - Cap Center.  The Way2Go>Wave horror was somewhat diminished in that they didn’t take the place of songs, i.e. they followed China>Rider and then got Estimated>Terrapin to follow.  Make no mistake, I (likely) wasn’t thrilled at the time, but at least they didn’t shorten the set, at least from a song count standpoint.  This set had Bruce on accordion.

2.  June 23 - Deer Creek.  This show was like a trip on the struggle bus (pun intended), until it wasn’t.  After the Way2>Wave was a run of music that everyone here should hear.

Terrapin>
JAM!>
Drums/Space>
Dark Star>
Wheel>
Good Love

e:  Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

So while Way2Go was sometimes pretty good by this point, Wave2theWind was never on my wishlist.

But these shows had some other things to console us, despite that horror…

Here’s the Deer Creek show.  Get in there today, that jam is a monstrosity.  Terrapin as we know it as well as reality begins to be left behind at around the 12-minute mark.

I am thrilled that Way2Go and Wave2theWind have

created such lively discussion.  I cannot resist any

musical notes played by Jerry Garcia regardless of

the songs they are contained in.

Fabulous post DD, funny how 30 years after the

fact I find out  we were both at the Cap Center

that evening.  Having Bruce on accordion for the

second set probably assisted in on stage juice.

For your approval, this colossal thirty song

odyssey from East Coat Spring 1973.

Only time Cumberland and HCS were ever

attached.  Seventeen song first has some

thing for everyone punctuated by the

closing China>Rider.  Early second set

merely a precursor to the otherworldly

closing triad.  The Star clocks in at a

cool 32:08, going all the way out and

back.  A showpiece for the band in 1973

glory.  Official release Dave's Picks 16.

Funny that I was just yesterday also calculating that it was indeed 30 years ago for those, because I am reuniting with a great friend at the Phish Greek shows that I went “in and out of the Gardens” in Fall 1993,

Once I thought for a moment, the math is easy, haha.

Right on, Billy - can’t wait until our next show together! 😎    (Get out West, ffs!) 😝🥳

I remember clearly, the first night,  bringing full cups of beer down to our 2nd row center seats as Scarlet Fire was starting up after set break, spilling as the joyful spinning was beginning, so happy to be with good friends up close for the celebration. Then the second night the  coveted High Time gifted to us all in the first. Jerry loved us all so much he just had to play a little dark star to finish off this series.

I've tried to paste links throughout the day, no luck. Very big day 4/6/84 my first long distance drive for a show and clearly remember the china ryder and eyes and the mushrooms and using the cc my dad gave me for emergencies at college. He didn't think buying a case of beer in Las Vegas as an emergency and took that away. It was my only contribution to the trip for our group heading out of Laramie. Then 4/6/85 the only show of the Philly three to close out spring where I learned the hard lesson that you have to tour the dead as you can see what happened at the two I missed. I was chasing after that mistake

Ahhhh . Chasing! Once the bug bit me hard it was Scarlet > Fire and Morning Dew.  Had some tough luck 88-89 and then those 2 followed ME for a spell.  Got lucky for a nice stretch in 90 - 91!  It helps once your show count goes way up

On this day 34 years ago, Brent Mydland brought the goods in Louisville, Kentucky…

And on this day 1,990 years ago, word is that a guy named Jesus did something cool of his own.  YMMV, but Happy Easter to those who follow such things!  🐰

April 10, 1978 the Grateful Dead played in Atlanta.

This has some interesting information about the Fox Theater.  The Salt Lake City is soundcheck.

Here is a soundboard of the show:

And here’s a YouTube of Bobby regaling the crowd…
