Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted July 6, 2022 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 6, 2022 July 6th 1986, hot, hot, hot and the lot had an undercover van with a mushroom window cruising the lot and arresting people who didn't even have the cash to get back to Maine. Stella Blu July 6th, 1987 Indoor summer tour show when Jerry gave Heaven 's Door to the Grateful Dead (weird tour with three indoor shows, Roanoke the other 2). Maybe the indoor arenas were evening the score with the stadium Dylan shows in that run?

Night 1 of 3, the start of Brent’s final run. Did that Tinley run. Sound never got dialed-in - seemed to swirl all around the stadium. Also - the ride into that place was a nightmare. We had to abandon our car in traffic the first nite and then try to find it after the show. Not recommended after lapping up some puddles. The recordings sounded WAY better than I remembered
Forum MVP DesertDead Posted July 24, 2022 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 24, 2022 I didn’t have any audio issues until the second night, when I was 20 rows to Brent. So we moved back to where we were on night 1, 15 rows to Phil, and didn’t leave for two days. The massive swirl of the sound in that black cage-lookin pavilion was one intense trip. Puddles, indeed. I wasn’t sure if it was me, it was so distinct and bizarre, I’ve never had any experience like that at a show, before or since. When I finally got my wits about me to say “fuck this, we’re bailing” (likely exact quote), it was like being set free. Hey Pocky Way was a riot that second night (always was a riot, though). I grew up about 20 minutes away in just over the Indiana border, so we took Route 30 and back roads instead of I-80. We could see from the lot that people were bailing on their cars on the side of the freeway. I think these were the first big concerts at the place, but I could be wrong about that and am too high to Google it right now. 3

Forum MVP Tea Posted July 30, 2022 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 30, 2022 1988-07-29 - Leguna Seca Recreation Area This show gets the headlines for the China Cat > Crazy Fingers > I Know You Rider, more than understandable. BUT - The meat of this Playin in the Band is/was one of the very best since 1974 - IMHO, anyway. Give it a spin if you think that comment is hyperbole. Lastly, the sound is bleeping incredible! I’m not a true audiophile but I know it when I hear it
Forum MVP John A Posted July 30, 2022 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 30, 2022 7-29-88 is also the only Playin' that went straight into the reprise since it happened a few times in '76 just after the hiatus. This was my first show after moving to California. Not a bad way to get introduced to West Coast living! (Still didn't quite make up for missing the Greeks a couple weeks earlier, however. Something about wisdom teeth having to be extracted...)

Forum MVP John A Posted November 1, 2022 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 1, 2022 Garcia played Werewolves on all Halloween appearances, be it with the Dead or the JGB, every time there was a Halloween show from 1985 on. Who can name them all without cheating? Edit: I just did the mental exercise my self, and didn't recall there were Halloween performances by JGB in '86 and '93 - but both include Werewolves so my original statement holds true. I had only pulled the '87 though '92 versions from memory.
