A smoking and pretty fun show at Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California that is memorable for reasons other than the show that was held there in February 1977 that you might have heard of: this one has Garcia singing in set 1, but he calls it quits for vocals in set 2 due to laryngitis (too much, too fast over NYE, Jer?). Note some banter and a stupid Weir joke in set 1, how very gently Jerry sings when he does, and the Truckin, as it promises to get you moving. Bonus Intel: the two shows that followed were in San Diego, and neither one of those shows had any Garcia vocals at all. Can someone say “rain check?!” https://archive.org/details/gd78-01-06.sbd.clugston.6953.sbeok.shnf/gd78-01-06d1t03.shn Check out the triple-crest Truckin. Forum MVP BillK522 Posted February 26, 2021 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 26, 2021 77/02/26 Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA Terrapin Station, Minglewood, TLEO, Estimated Prophet, Sugaree, Mama Tried, Deal, Playin'>The Wheel>Playin'. Forum MVP John A Posted March 13, 2021 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 13, 2021 I believe the BCT was the last truly small venue the Dead played (Spring '86). I'd have loved to seen the Fall '84 shows there (1st official taper section shows), which were some of the best of that year, not to mention the epic August '72 run. Here's some trivia, and it's a show I did attend: the first show ever billed as "Phil & Friends" was at the BCT. It was acoustic, with Jerry, Bobby, Phil (on a huge hollow body guitar), and Vince. 9-24-94. It was a benefit for the Berkeley High School music program. There was a very rare, for that era, Duprees Diamond Blues, that Jerry so thoroughly flubbed in a way that only he can. 😀
Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted March 13, 2021 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 13, 2021 I think a lot of us were at the carrier dome on Saturday 10/20/84 of, what about 60,000?, to that 4 night run at BCT of 3500. Kinda exemplifies the different energy levels of east coast versus west shows. Thanks for the dive BK. 1985 started for me by getting my high school concert friend (after I had been to red Rocks in '83 and Las Vegas in '84) to make the 12 hour drive for the two spring Hampton shows. Opened with Alabama and he was deadicated. Then philly, alpine, cincy, blossom, Hershey, red rocks, and my first California shows were new years to end out '85 and begin the all in of '86 (except the March BCT shows 🙁). The Eel River August 87 JGB and Black mtn Boys had only about 400 people there. Was the 88 eel river show only minimally attended?

Not a bad effort by the taper, either. 😎
