Forum MVP Island Bro Posted March 21, 2017 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 21, 2017 Wow, just getting the news now from you guys. That dude seriously moved some energy in his lifetime. I got to see him live in '95 when he opened for the two GD shows in Portland at the racetrack. (I knew they would be my last GD shows but that's a different story). It was so fun to be amongst the deadhead circus and hear him live and boogie down as a warm up to the GD shows,,and it was hilarious because he played the EXACT same show both evenings including all his moves like the duckwalk...not sure if he realized 90% of the crowd was there both nights! 😝 But I'm glad I got to see an old school legend like Chuck live,,even better that it was an opener for the dead shows with a loose and groovin crowd ready to have some fun. Rest in Peace,,my man,,,,you've done good work here 🎸

stlblues
The late Chuck Berry’s final album, “Chuck,” will be released June 16 on Dualtone Records, the record label announced Wednesday. The first single “Big Boys” is available for streaming now. The single includes Nathaniel Rateliff and Tom Morello. Other guests on the album include Gary Clark Jr., and Chuck’s grandson Charles Berry III. It was produced by Berry throughout St. Louis with his longtime backing group of St. Louis players including his children Charles Berry Jr. (guitar) and Ingrid Berry (vocals, harmonica), Jimmy Marsala (Berry’s bassist for forty years), Robert Lohr (piano) and Keith Robinson (drums). Some of the tunes date as far back as the ‘80s, and Berry would tweak tunes in his home studio between touring dates.“Lady B. Goode” is a sequel to his immortal “Johnny B. Goode,” and features three generations of Berry guitarists. “Darlin’ ” is a duet with his daughter Ingrid Berry.“Working on my dad's record has been one of the best experiences of my life,” said Charles Berry Jr. “I will forever treasure the musical conversations we had, and the time we spent together completing it.”It’s his first new album since 1979’s “Rock It.”Here’s the setlist to “Chuck”:“Wonderful Woman”“Big Boys”“You Go To My Head”“3/4 Time (Enchiladas)”“Darlin’”“Lady B. stlblues
Chuck Berry's family announces St. Louis funeral plans St. Louis will have a chance to say goodbye to iconic rocker Chuck Berry next month, his family has announced. A viewing open to the public will be held Sunday, April 9, at the Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard. Fans can pay their respects from 8 a.m. to noon. That will be followed by a funeral service celebrating his life, the family said in a press release, but that will be "for family, friends and musical friends" due to limited seating. The family said more details will be made public in the next few days. “I think it’s wonderful the family wants to give the public this chance to pay their respects,” said Berry's longtime friend Joe Edwards. Edwards, who owns the Pageant, Blueberry Hill and other Delmar Loop establishments, also acted as Berry's publicist. Berry, regarded as one of the most influential figures in American popular music, died March 18 at age 90 at his home near Wentzville. The singer, songwriter and guitarist was behind hits like “Maybellene,” “My Ding-a-Ling,” “Roll Over Beethoven” and his signature “Johnny B. Goode” was born Oct. 18, 1926, in the Ville neighborhood of north St. Louis.
Forum MVP John A Posted April 17, 2017 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 17, 2017 Not to kill the good vibe of this thread (ok, so I'm going to kill it), but having just read the Rolling Stone article on Berry I am in disbelief at some of the revelations. I knew he'd spent various stints behind bars, but some of the dirt is about as dirty as it gets. Here's a particularly brutal snippet: Quote That same year [1988], Berry bought the Southern Air Restaurant outside St. Louis. He had long thought of property investment as a means of income that might allow him to tour less. What eventually resulted was perhaps the worst disgrace of his life. Berry's application for a liquor license was denied, due to his record. He felt thwarted again by others' judgments and a community's bias. It developed, though, that Berry was accused of having installed cameras in the restaurant's restroom, secretly recording females – some quite young – in states of undress. Pictures also emerged of Berry posing nude with young white women. Berry sued the magazine that published them, claiming that the damning images had been stolen from him. Then, dozens of women who'd been caught unwillingly in the restroom videos sued Berry. He ended up paying settlements totaling roughly $1.2 million. A rock star's rogue sex adventures were hardly uncommon, nor was home pornography. But surreptitious taping had no license by anybody, and some of the images that made it out of Berry's collection were pretty unforgettable, even if they involved consensual activity. One video showed a young woman nude in a bathtub while he urinated in her mouth. When Berry was done, she asked him for a kiss. "Baby, I can't kiss you," said Berry. "You smell like piss." Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted April 17, 2017 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 17, 2017 I'm really opposed to bringing up dirt on dead men. We all have skeletons in the closet. Seems like he knew some kinky chicks. The camera in the bathroom is disgusting. I wish I didn't know that.
Forum MVP John A Posted April 17, 2017 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 17, 2017 Yeah, of all the transgressions sprinkled throughout that Rolling Stone piece, and there were plenty, the hidden bathroom camera really set itself apart. WTF?
ducats
as always I wonder........ he set up cameras in the restroom of the bar he owned but had yet to acquire it's liquor license? as soon as a ? like that appears in a story I ignore the whole thing also, another reminder to never put the skeletons in the closet - they should be out dancing like nobody's watching. ofcourse illegal activity throws this mantra a curveball
