Forum MVP John A Posted February 24, 2017 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 Here are some great shots of "San Souci", the estate where Garcia lived with Mountain Girl and their then young kids in the early 70s. He used a $20,000 up front payment from Warner Brothers for his debut solo album "Garcia" to buy the property. Now it's going for over 4 million. By many accounts the years he spent here were some of the happiest of his life. Certainly these years were the closest he'd come to being a "family man", and he would often greet the likes of Peter Rowan and David Grisman at the front gate with a banjo over his shoulder. http://www.sfgate.com/realestate/walkthrough/article/Jerry-Garcia-s-former-Stinson-Beach-estate-up-10955036.php#photo-12436297 Bonus fact: I rented this place for a weekend in September of '96 for my wedding! We had the ceremony on Stinson Beach, the reception at Sans Souci, and all out of town guests were accommodated here for the entire weekend. I think it was around $2,500 for the weekend. Not cheap for the time, but when you factor in the mileage we got out of it, it was a steal. At the time, it was not publicly known that Garcia had owned the property, but I'll say this - the place had a massively cool vibe. It was unmistakable. When it later became public knowledge that this was Jerry's house it was an aha moment. One of the 3 main buildings on the property is the music studio he constructed. I recall it had a very cool loft. It's seen extensive remodeling since the late 90s, to the point where all details in these photos are unrecognizable.
