Forum MVP Rude Posted December 29, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 29, 2016 So eaton and mattson have 2 guitars on stage all night. I was thinking 60s then 70s set. Tb500 and I think a strat for mattson and eatons new guitar(not sure what it is) and his old Gibson. It turned out to be a 73/77 with a couple variations. I describe the 73 parts as 1-drummer versions with 2 drummers. They start with 73 guitars on half step. I'm not sure exactly when they switched to the late 70s style guitar but may have been the next song and they play those until BTW and finish the set in 73 style. 2nd set opens with old guitars until drums/space which was very modern then switch to tb500 and finish out the show with 77 style. Very unique shows. Some ridiculous jams. That 2nd set was ridiculous!!! That china rider with the feelin groovy jam was amazing keeping with the 73 feel. Then the rider jam got the crowd lost in space before coming back to rider. There were a few variations from the 73 and77 feel. tom thumb was the obvious variation. I think that was just 80s and 90s but google would verify. Easy wind was another break from it. Minglewood was the tea for Texas version which I think started in 78. The crowd talked too much. It was hard to hear skip in tom thumbs with the talkers. They were everywhere. I get that lots of people are home for holidays and likely many of those were there with friends and wanted to catch up. It made me think of Iowa city and how the crowd got pin drop silent during Stella. Never heard a crowd get that quiet and conversely last night was one of the most talkative. I kept thinking that any DSO doubters or haters should have listened to that china rider last night or the WRS and you could no longer doubt the talent or originality. You guys are awesome!!!! That terrapin was very unique. I don't think I've heard a version with anything like that jam you went into. It pretty much left the song and the transition back into terrapin was perfect. People just don't know how hard that is to do and you guys executed it to perfection!!!! 1st of 23 shows in 4 months and it confirmed this is why I travel to see u guys!! Thanks for planning my vacations for me!!!!
