Advisory Board Dr. Barry Posted October 17, 2016 Advisory Board Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 To start this important topic, I am suggesting that any and all stories related to the "Teacher Honda Civic" be posted here, now. Once this awesome and significant topic has been exhausted and those not fortunate enough to have experienced it either in reality or vicariously have been satisfied, then and only then I would ask that someone start a new subject under this thread, following the same rules. In this way all fans and "superfans" (thanks Chuck) can become educated in the history of all of us from our side of the stage.
Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 I will start with a short story on my beloved "Teacher Honda Civic" ... It was hands down the original DSO touring vehicle without question ... In the summer of 1999 and again the summer of 2001 it crisscrossed the country following the tours from Ohio to California and back ... nice short 5/6 week endeavors. .. It transported every band member in one way or another from a venue to dinner or a hotel etc .. Dino Kevin Rob K Bix and myself trip comes to mind years ago at Dewey Beach .. thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning Dr. Barry
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 I rode in the teach civic towards its end of days. Vegas show. It's door panels had disappeared.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 Never have I both felt more at home and more like I had placed my life in the hands of a higher power than during the miles I rode in the passenger seat of the TM Civic. Once those door panels were gone it was abundantly clear that any side impact would result in impalement by cold steel. At the same time the GD and DSO stickers holding the car together reminded us that our faith would lead us on.
Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 It peeked out at 26 said GD/DS0 stickers ... my train of thought was why would a police officer pull me over for that many stickers... that they knew it would be counterproductive...the fact nobody would put 26 stickers on giving us a reason to pull them over
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 And it was one of the most super of super fans (all fans are equal but...) that noted how it ain't easy on this side of the rail.

Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 Anthony - goodness an oldie but a goodie DSO fan !! ... WOW... hope all is well ... like you always said and I quote you "be good" ... hehe ... the "Teacher Honda Civic" never made it to your turkey day ... my Mom knew I toured but if I missed her dinner for a show I would be persona non grata !! .. hehe It did however see a DSO show in 37 states ... from the likes of Arkansas, Wyoming, Vermont, Minnesota, and South Carolina to name a few .. also scored a prime parking spot across from the Irving Plaza in NYC some years back .. like Chuck said it was a super of the super fans .. even though no video evidence exists the "Teacher Honda Civic" has been seen dancing on its tires in many a parking lot ... I was unable to sneak it into a venue .. but it did have a grate view of the stage at an All Good one year...

Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 when I moved back from Las Vegas to Ohio in June of 2013 the old girl had 295,000 miles on its 14 year old body and engine ... I had kept every single paper copy reciept of oil changes, flush n fills, new tires batteries lights etc etc ... 2 thick manilla folders worth ... she had been retired the last couple years from long journey excursions and she was fine with that..basically just a vehicle to get me to work and back ... for example when I made the drive from Vegas to So Cal I got a rental ... the driver side window engine broke ...so I had it in the down position...for the last 2 years I drove it in Vegas and parked it you could have easily stole it ... in that town a Honda Civic is gone and in a chop shop within a week ... nope ... so I thought as soon as I fix the window and get it up then someone will steal it ... I didn't mind having the window down as it rains in Vegas 3 days a year... so it went unfixed ... Should I tow it back to Ohio or sell it .. it was on Craigslist for an hour and I had 3 guys in my school parking lot ready to buy .. they were amazed how smooth the original transmission was ... a young Mexican guy with a family was who I choose as the new owner ... he loved and promised to keep the stickers on ... well maybe not all 26 of them ... .hehe... I handed him the keys and the door panels that were stored in my garage and away she went .. off into the Las Vegas sunset to live another life ... that is a true story friends ... Forum MVP bs69 Posted October 17, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 17, 2016 Didn't you hand the keys off to the valet to park at Montgomery Inn in Cincy before a show at Bogart's many years ago? If so, how was the reaction? And the next group of tales has to be about the Ledges

I recall you Bix and Lisa are the only ones who made it there ?? In regards to valet parking only the best for the THC.... Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted October 18, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 18, 2016 Teach once told me and brother, "Hey, hey,.... I like you guys." And I've been a fan ever since. We shared a black MNt dance floor and synchronously offset each other's moves like artist. Every time I moved he stood still. It was a thing of beauty. Didn't know him back in the day, prob good for both of us. Gotta love a guy that devotes his time and livelihood to improving the lives of our youth. A coach at heart. Forum MVP Michael Doc Watson Posted October 18, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 18, 2016 , That old Civic was way ahead of its time. It had an automatic self drive feature that could be activated whenever the driver was enjoying life to excess. Sitting in the back seat behind Chuck and Matt, I was initially concerned during a trip from Pittsburg to Cleveland but soon learned everything was safely handled by the car’s autopilot. I’m not sure if Matt had to download the tour schedule or if that was also an automatic feature. The car always knew where to head for the next show. Doc, your Prius could one day be held with similar esteem to the THC. Your care of that red beauty and your reverence for traffic compliance will almost guarantee that. LOL, love you brother.
