Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted September 28, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 28, 2016 One drummer elective. Style 72/73. I fill more in tomorrow but stellar show. Big dark star. Slower eyes but monster bass solos. Beautiful stella. You could hear a pin drop. Weather report.

jj3down
Damn, I really want me a Weather Report. I'd like to get a '73-style show period someday. One of my favorite years - Billy plays like a man possessed.

Forum MVP PoetryGirl Posted September 28, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 28, 2016 Oh wow - That's Alright Momma ! Now that I'd like to see. I had that as filler on a tape with It Takes a Lot to Laugh from the Dicky Betts 6/10/73 RFK. This deadhead in town tells me that show everyone brought into the stadium their own coolers and chairs . Things got a little out of hand - and then, only then, were coolers checked the second night before allowed in. One guy left his stuff and there it sat for night 2 when he arrived the next night. Mike says Jerry seemed to taunt Betts on stage changing up tempos and licks while Betts seemed to be losing his stuff.
Forum MVP John A Posted September 28, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 28, 2016 While perhaps an unpopular comment, I think that 6/10/73 segment with the Allmans is overrated. Sure it's cool they played the material they played, but the jams just seem to meander on without focus. Too many cooks (guitarists) in the kitchen (on stage),

Forum MVP Rude Posted September 29, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 29, 2016 Was a blast. My ear still hurts from being in front of the speakers. During the 2nd set i carved out a fairly large space stage left and completely let go. I was drenched and got an insane cardio workout. I think my dance was so crazy that it cracked Eaton up at one point. I'm going to say that it was a laugh of awe vs a laugh of that dude is nuts. I did my part to get the people around me to let go. The funny thing is when the show began the only people standing were our group plus a couple girls I had met at Hampton Beach. It took a few minutes for other people to stand. It was definitely a little strange. The ushers let us dance in the aisles. No one was hassled. The town was very cute. I'll definitely go back next time. I just hope my car doesn't break down again on the interstate :/. I had to backtrack the next day to the middle of Missouri to get my car from the repair shop. To add to all that strsss was my dad had a successful open heart surgery on Tuesday. The whole trip is a little bit of a blur. the tequila shots after the show didn't help. On the way to Des Moines I picked up a young hitchhiker at a gas station who had a Jerry shirt on. Our whole crew pitched in to get him a ticket to his 1st dso show. He had a blast. He'd seen dead and co at the gorge but he was blown away at how Good dso was. Here's the weird thing. Torin and I are talking with Connor, the hitchhiker, and Connor tells us how he snuck into Dolly Parton at red rocks. Torin says the dead played 1 Dolly Parton song. Then we get Tommorrow is forever at the show. Veru strange occurrence.

BTW, great to hear about your father's successful surgery. Hope he recovers quick. Good luck.

One of the more cosmic happenings Ive ever experienced w/ DSO..Mostly because Tomrrow is Forever was the last song i was expecting them to play that night, thinking we were due for 80s show...stage size is the reason for the back to back one drummer btw. Sure enough, as if they were listening to our convo in the car, we got it that night..Was so cool..beautiful rendition of it as well, its a song that is just meant for Lisa to sing// Loved every bit of this show. Spectacular song selection all night. Bertha followed by Race is On, Mama tried Loose Lucy what a start...blissful H.C. Sunshine..The tightness of Pride of Cucamonga gets me every time. the entire Weather Report Suite> Dark Star> Eyes was my highlght. the Prelude and Part1 was perfect what a cool college town Iowa City is. we saw the local dead cover band 'Winterland' after the show. the jerry was legit. Reuben & Cherise, Terrapin, Morning Dew, Ramble on rose, You Win Again, Scarlet were some of the songs
Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted September 29, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 29, 2016 Torin... you are correct in the assessment of Iowa City being a cool college town ... I have been to Iowa City 3 times ... 1. 1986 my Freshman year in college saw Ohio State beat Iowa 2. while driving across country following DSO summer 2001 tour I spent a night there (no show) just a hang 3. 2006 went back to Kinnick Stadium for another Buckeye victory over the Hawkeyes ... cool that DSO played there ..maybe I will catch the wheel go around next time... Forum MVP HelpSlip Posted September 30, 2016 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 30, 2016 thats cool Matt. wish you were there with us. Eaton said at the end of the show "Hope its not another 6years before we return" (played same venue feb'08 and feb'10) he also thanked the crowd for being so silent during the Stella Blue. He said how much they appreciate that. it really was a beautiful Stella. So quiet at times you could hear one single plastic cup tip over on the floor. Was powerful and moving. Jeff poured his heart out The NFA> gdtrfb> NFA to follow was strong as well, everyone so dialed in together, seamless transitions ...very fun, rare encore

Feel like I've been on a college tour. My car broke down in Columbia MO, home of Missouri tigers. Then university of Iowa for a show. Last night we stayed in champaign, IL home of university of Illinois fighting Illini. Iowa city is 50x cuter than Illinois. Night and day difference. What's funny is some of the cutest places I've seen dso are big ten schools in Madison and Iowa city. Madison was about the cutest entrance I've seen with the lake and all the students paddle boarding or kayaking. But the Iowa coeds....yowsers. I was thinking we'd see a bunch of corn fed girls that were big and strong from farming and milking cows. Maybe I stereotype too much. I mean I've yet to be murdered in Chicago.
