Came in on Sugaree ( I heard they opened with Hell), John was in synch and stretching the jams with extreme execution, best I've seen, Bobby was in great form also, keyboards and Otiel kept the show rocking, Billy was tripping on Mayers leads and the force the band was generating. Nothing like the disappointing Columbus show earlier in the year. Met a few DSO heads that got to fill me in on more of the Jubilee, remininsed about the good ol ledges daze

Jack Straw, 1/2 Step closed the first set. Long set break (wondering why it takes them so long to get their buzz on?)

Second Set:

Box, Viola Lee>Chinacat (really go together nicely)>Ryder>D/S>Viola>Stella>Sugar>SSDD. (too many talkers during Stella, I started heading out of Riverbend during Sugar,

Felt a need to post as this was a tremendous show, Viola and Chinacat have very similar sounds. Any Viola Lee, by any group, is worth mentioning, it was a beautiful night on the lawn in Cincy, not '85, but hey it was a scorching musical adventure. Clouds created a similar sunset as we got when DSO played Annies a few years back , Scarlet>Fire second set opener. Anyone remember that Annie's show? That's when I caught my first Viola Lee, smack damn in the middle of Throwing Stones!

I saw some great footage from Bonnaroo recently. I can see/hear/feel the evolution of John's playing since last fall. I think this band is beginning to gel...getting very fluid. Originally I couldn't stand the thought of John Mayer in the Jerry spot but I gotta admit this kid is growing on me. Think I'll try and make it out to the Gorge shows in WA state in late July (this venue is top of the line location...considered top two or three outdoor venues in the country along with red rocks) and since there is a camping scene there, it is a good party.

I'm continuing to try and have an open mind and I am liking ending up being pleasantly surprised by these music projects. Probably not gonna put in big miles for this band but willing to catch the groove when they come around...

Glad it's happening and that people are having a good time

I took the boys to Deercreek to see them last night. Caught a bit of cincy stream too. They have come a long way since last year, there were some really tight jams. Although sometimes its slowed down too much for me, at times they were on fire. Bobby made me cry during BTW. Bobby also sang A hard rain's gonna fall. The Jam in Althea was nasty great. New speedway boogie was another rocker. Always love watching Billy and Mickey do drums. Good to see a show with that many people again, and the boys got the full shakedown street experience. Good times had by all.

There were definitely some good spots. Its Just that this other band I see has set the bar so high when it comes to Grateful Dead music. Lol

I had some kids try to sell me on Mayer. Hell should say guys. They was as old as me but I'm still a kid. I told him I mostly saw DSO. I was a stranger last night. I recognized one person other than musicians and I don't think they recognized me. It was nice change of pace. Too bad the music wasn't up to snuff. I had to invent notes to dance a tempo slower than the song dictates. I can't imagine dead and co being any worse. I still had fun last night. I bet dead and co is all right on monday.

The trend to slowing of the tempo drives me nuts.....one of several deal breakers for me.

I bet those Folsom field stadium shows will be fun. Stadiums have tons of energy and it's fun to watch 50k other people. Not a fan of big arenas though. outdoor or ballrooms are my preferences. Stubhub field tix are cheaper than ticketmarter prices atm. Considering they will prob offer 50k tix for sale, I'm guessing you will find 50 buck or less tix everywhere. And this isn't the GD farewell. 50k is a whole lotta tix to unload for Colorado.

I was playing in a member guest golf tournament with my dad this weekend probably 10 minutes from Riverbend. I did not go to the show because I am not completely sold on this lineup. I do think it works really well on certain songs but not others. The reason I bring up the golf is that apparently one of the guys from the club knows Weir and he gave them a block of seats by the soundboard. A large group of the guys playing went to the show on Thursday and even though a lot of them weren't even Dead fans, they came away with a great appreciation for the music. The recurring theme was, "I don't know their music real well, but you can tell good musicians when you hear it and they were on". Sounds like it was a good time.

I give you my opinion maybe tonite after I see it live for myself the 1st time. I could care less about the opinion of people who don't know this music. They don't know what it supposed to sound like and where it can take you. They just don't.
