Some of you know I've obsessed over this song for some time now. Don't know know a lot about it other than its one of my favorite early Jerry tunes, give me chills EVERY time I hear it. Seems according to YouTube it might be a Glen Campbell tune. Funny, listen to Glen sing it and then listen to what Jerry does with it. Holy shit.

Now here's GD doing my fav recording from Ivar Theatre in LA 2/25/66 (no video could be found).

Alright, damn, Wikipedia hooked me up. Love how stuff eludes you for years and it's right at your fingertips.

"By the Time I Get to Phoenix"

(1967) "Hey Little One"

(1968) "I Wanna Live"

(1968)

"Hey Little One", a song written by Dorsey Burnette and Barry De Vorzon, was released on May 2, 1960 by Era. The record "Hey Little One"/"Big Rock Candy Mountain" (Era 3019) was sung by Dorsey and it reached No. 48 in the Hot 100. The band on the recording included veteran session drummer Earl Palmer.[1]

Glen Campbell version

It was re-recorded by American country music artist Glen Campbell. It was re-released in January 1968 as the second single from his album By the Time I Get to Phoenix. The song peaked at number 13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.[2] It also reached number 6 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada.

Hey Little One

Lyrics: Bernette, Vorzon
Music: Bernette, Vorzon

Played live by the Grateful Dead in their very early days in 1966

Hey, hey little one, so far from home, and so alone
Hey, hey little one, I'm just like you, I'm lonely too

The road we ride is a long, long road when you are all alone
But I found you and I found our love, a love I've never known
A love I've never known

Hey, hey little one, I'm just like you, I'm lonely too
Hey, hey little one, don't go away, tell me you'll stay

Tell me, tell me, tell me you'll stay
Tell me you'll stay
