Was a blast at the riverslide theater. Slanting floors and beers and liquids flowed downhill to our feet and it was very hard not to fall. No kidding. Slick floors to begin with and add water. Eek. Near the end my left foot had to stay planted as there was zero traction on the right.

Fun energetic respectful crowd. I've never heard a crowd that rowdy get so quiet for Stella blue. It was amazing. The crowd hushed and Jeff sang the quiet parts in peace. I've seen several Stella's and nothing like this. Usually the talkers start talking here. In Chicago it was a medium roar during to lay me down. Almost silence at the riverside. But....the crowd threw down here harder than I've seen in a while. What a great crowd in this amazing old venue. Tallest ceilings in a theater I think I've been to. Gorgeous place. Great crowd. Great time. Oh and after 2 notes my gf says omg it's shining star which is her fav Jerry somg after we saw it at poca this summer. She was as happy as u can get. Think she was 1st in theater to figure out that song. My 1st easy to slip. That was a treat.

Very original. So we had a Donna mic but an organ setup so that's the original tell as Keith played only keys. Then u had sing my blues away whick Keith sang only a few times. Then u had shining star and a strange man which I'm pretty sure only JGB played. Then u had easy to slip which only Bobby played solo and the dead never did.

They do like 40% of their shows original setlists. Allows them to bring out the rare songs and JGB. Plus it allows them to get really creative with setlists and transitions. When you get a help>slip>tangled u will start craving originals.

Strange man, easy to slip.... Nice

The crowd was as respectful as I've seen for the ballads. After the loud chorus and the songs got quiet the crowd got quiet too. I whispered to Meili that I've never heard a crowd this big go that quiet during Stella and during other songs where the music got soft. Lisa got a monster ovation after strange man and the crowd was very quiet during the soft parts. During a singing lull, there would be screams but they let her sing soft and it was great. That ovation lasted almost a minute. It was a great crowd. Everyone in that joint at the end was throwing down. We looked up and the balcony was getting down hard. You could see the band was having fun and really appreciated the crowd. Besides the slip and slide floor it was just a great atmosphere. The sound in that place was great. Really full sound with modern PA. So glad we made this show. Chicago doesn't really dance. I think the hardest dancer in the crowd was a lady next to us probably 55-60yrs old and she was throwing down. Everyone eventually let go of their inhibitions. I have lots of respect for the Milwaukee fans after this show. They just need to do something about the steep slope in the pit. It was like a sheet of ice. Cool older guy I met said they called it the riverslide theater b/c of that lol. Hearing easy to slip seemed very fitting for this venue. Guessing it had nothing to do with the venue but they busted it out at the perfect venue lol.

1st Easy to Slip by dso?

2nd by DSO. 2001 elective show. There was a 2007 terrapin nation show that they did it, but that's not technically DSO.

Now im thinking it had to do with the slippery theater floor. Bust out a new tune last show of tour? Easy to slip in the most slippery venue I've ever seen? If it is coincidence it's a crazy one.

Funny.

The red cone should've been inside.

Only pic we have of the orange river cone. In a day or so it will be floating down the river as the ice melts lol. The funny thing is someone had to walk out to put it there. That wouldn't be a fun task.

I think White Rabbit definitely has a Spanish flair. With the moorish influence in Spain, this version of White Rabbit in Arabic seems to be a perfect fit in this thread.

It has this hauntingly mysterious and beautiful quality I love.

Is 'white rabbit jam' actually Spanish Jam?

I was convinced white rabbit was upcoming but that would be a weird place to put it after space. That jam is almost identical to the start of white rabbit. I'm familiar with the feelin groovy, mind left body etc but identifying which is which gets me. Not being a musician, I'm bad about putting a name with the jams with no accompanying lyrics. During China cat in Chicago I could have sworn they put in a jam independent of China cat that I've heard played by the dead but again identifying it is my downfall. I'm humble enough to verify my rookie status in comparison to most of the people on this board.

On originals I always note the setlist in my phone. After D/S I heard a few notes and wrote white rabbit then put the phone in my pocket. Once NFA started I just added jam to it. To me what I heard was indistinguishable from the beginning of the actual white rabbit I heard earlier on the tour. Also I've heard a blue sky jam that someone told me wasn't called blue sky jam but it sounded almost exactly like the allman brothers version musically. One thing from hearing DSO a lot lately is I've begun to pick up on songs very quickly. I still miss a lot as I thought a La Bamba was coming in one of the 80s recreations that was actually good lovin but it wasn't a traditional good lovin intro. The dead definitely liked to tease people and keep them on their toes. But then again so many people hear so many different things at shows that others don't whether they are actually teased or not. Our minds will play tricks on us. I think if we hear a couple notes that make us think a song is coming our minds will fill in more of that song than is actually played. It's definitely one of the things that make dead shows so unique and keep us coming back for more and more. Hope u west coasters have as much of a blast as I just had. I feel like mango or MC right now after this run(not quite chuck as his YOB was too big to fathom). If u exclude Jamaica, I think I got more shows on this winter tour than anyone. Life will likely keep me from doing a run this size again but it was a hell of a time I'll cherish the rest of my life!!!

I once heard Jeff do a short 'a love supreme' jam in fire on the mountain.. Portland last year. I wonder if anyone else noticed?

I don't remember noticing or not noticing,,,but the year before when they dropped the '69, the China Cat jam woven in and out of Alligator was just insane...the kind of reckless abandon that leaves me wanting MORE!!!

You gonna make it up for some Oregonization this time around?
