I guess not that many from this group must have gone. This probably did not suck save for it being only a one-setter:

Feedback > Viola Lee Blues ; Easy Wind > China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; It Hurts Me Too ; Saint Stephen > The Other One > Saint Stephen > The Eleven > Lovelight > White Rabbit

Dark Star Orchestra played the penultimate set of the weekend, with an elective show that featured some of the greatest songs in the Dead's catalog. There are nearly as many Grateful Dead fans who know more about the music from DSO as there are who saw actual Dead performances. DSO so faithfully reproduces not only the music, but the spirit of the Grateful Dead it is sometimes uncanny. I, for one, feel lucky that they do. Hell, I saw the Dead 20+ times and never got to hear "St. Stephen," but DSO played it Saturday night. In one amazing stretch, that went on for almost an hour, they played “St. Stephen” into “The Other One” back to ”St. Stephen” into”The Eleven” into “Turn On Your Lovelight." Throw in an “Easy Wind” and a “Viola Lee Blues” and you've got a set to remember.

pe·nul·ti·mate

pəˈnəltəmət/

adjective

last but one in a series of things; second to the last.

"the penultimate chapter of the book"

synonyms: next-to-last, second-to-last, second-last

Next-to-last is easier to say.......

I'm not so sure of that, Ducat. Maybe it depends upon the group of people that is being referred to. If Tea meant the whole group of everyone still alive, then probably more people saw the Grareful Dead. But if Tea was referring to the gaggle of fans that still enjoy and attend GD music, then DSO may have introduced more to the music.

Peace and Love,

Doc

and then the second sentence has a big fat zero chance of being true

Are you referring to this?: There are nearly as many Grateful Dead fans who know more about the music from DSO as there are who saw actual Dead performances.

If so: Agreed.

Or are you referring to this?: This probably did not suck save for it being only a one-setter:

If so: Ducats is a grumpy bear who trolls a GD tribute bands fan site.

I perceive a kinder-gentler Ducats since Flailgate.

So I'm gonna say former not latter :P

I love DSO but that 2nd sentence is insane.  GD played shows to 50 to 70 thousand people.  DSO plays small clubs.  I find DSO fans to be some of the most educated in the GD community, but introduce.  I may argue Furthur introduced more kids in 3 or 4 years than DSO has in almost 20.  DSO vs Dead introducing people to this music is no comparison.

Orginal statement was, "There are nearly as many Grateful Dead fans who know more about the music from DSO as there are who saw actual Dead performances."   and Ducats claimed the statement was untrue. Then I said the statement could be true.

"How Doc doesn't agree is hard to figure."

Yea.. Latter was thinking  that I was wrong on this. There are actually way too many Gratedul Dead fans that have never heard of DSO....unfortunately for them.

But just for fun I'm going to try to defend my statement along these lines...  Let's define the group in consideration as only Grateful Dead fans that currently attend at least five live shows every year for the past three years, but we won't limit  the group by saying they have to be registered on this forum.  How's that for  tring to back track on an incorrect statement.  With practice like this I could become a politician....but then as David Crosby said, I'd have to cut my hair.

Peace and Love,

Doc

 I think the text is a cut-n-paste from jambase.com
