yetivanmarshall
Hey Folks, Hippy Friday, Listening to Anyway, I'm 54 been playing/listening for a long time to many genres of music, often at extremely loud volumes. I can hear a pin drop 100 feet away and have never had any hearing problems, but here's what happened. A friend gave me a ticket to see a Twisted Sister benefit show for their drummer who recently passed away. We both grew up in the same area, so I figured what the heck. I also was interested in seeing Mike Portnoy who was filling in. What I wasn't expecting was music so loud that my ears are still hurting(not ringing) even as I listen to Dark Star on a laptop 3 weeks later. Has anyone on the board had a similar experience? will the pain ever go away or have I suffered irreversable nerve damage? Haven't seen a doctor yet. Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated. Thx Greg in N.J.
Forum MVP comesatime Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 I've been playing drums and going to concerts for a long and my ears started ringing about six weeks ago , there is a little pain from time to time also ... I was hoping it would go away , but it's not , so 'm going to see a specialist , but I think the damage is done ... Hoping there is something that can at least reduce the ringing ... Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Could be tinitis, which would be tough. Pete Townsend had surgery which cleared it up. So there is a surgical solution if that's any consolation. That 12/31/78 set has my favorite wharf rat intro, really seems like a dirge.
Forum MVP Rude Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Was just thinking about how popular that twisted sister video was. Animal house guy in it. Things were still shocking back as we hadn't been overexposed and parents didbt want their kids seeing or hearing that "we're not gonna take it!" My ears rang for 2 days after standing in front if Jeff's guitar monitor in Nashville and I likely did a little damage. His rear port hole was 3' away pointing right at my face and it was a 1970 show where the guitar hadn't smoothed out yet. Had to plug my ears during a few solos it was so intense. Forum MVP Dead duck Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Nashville was loud as shit. But the loudest I ever heard was at the vogue in Indy for a rare summer show a few years back. Kept checking my ears for blood. It was craaaaaaazy loud. I may have been standing right by speakers but don't recall?
Forum MVP acududeman Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Ear plugs, guys......otherwise hearing loss is inevitable. Like skin damage from the sun, hearing damage is cumulative. Each of us has a threshold before damage is evident......tinnitis & loss of range are most common. Once it's too late, it's too late.......
