Advisory Board Dr. Barry Posted July 7, 2015 Advisory Board Report Share Posted July 7, 2015 I was there Sunday nite with Sweet Annamarie and we had a fun and very special time. Sound in General admission behind Pit was lots of echo (or was that just me?). Sound in the Pit was much better. Great light show on the screens. Nice pics of the band flashing too. Bobby left out "soft as velveteen" and substituted "tender young and green". Anyone else notice that? Cassidy had an ending that never ended... Chimenti is a monster. I felt he did a tasteful homage to Brent's style. I wouldn't have noticed that Hornsby was there if I didn't see him on the screens. I misjudged Trey. What else can I say. His voice is what it is, flat and lacking emotion, but he played in tribute to Jerry and it was really nice. I noted that there was a severe lack of tribute to those mentioned in the title of this post. Hundreds of photos were flashed on the screens, many repeated many times. I think I counted one or two Donna, Brent, a few TC, a few Hunter, one Keith, one Vince, no Barlow.... If i'm wrong it's not by much. That saddened me greatly. Especially the lack of Brent and Hunter. Let's face it Hunter was a member of this band, and without him there wouldn't be all the songs we all love. And Brent? Brent single handedly took this band over when he joined, and was THE MAN to legions of deadheads who came on the scene in the 80's. That was an omission I just don't get. Lots of Pigpen pics thank goodness! And at the end the final pics on the screen were studio portraits of the current lineup with Trey in the center and Chimenti and Hornsby included. Nice touch, but these boys (in my opinion) just don't merit that spot. They aren't the Grateful Dead. That final spot should have been either a shot or two of the real GD or better yet just Jerry. It was fun though, and I won't ever forget it. Dr. B
Forum MVP John A Posted July 7, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 7, 2015 Noticed the Days flub - and that's too cool a lyric to leave out! Also didn't get into the never ending Cassidy, especially since the transition into the ending segmeant was weak. Others in my viewing group disagreed. Forum MVP cm_hayden Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Dr. B is so right. I was fully expecting Donna to walk on stage for an encore, and Jerry's smiling face as they played He's Gone.
Forum MVP Rude Posted July 10, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 We had that echo sound bad in the 1st set b4 we moved. We sat in assigned seats behind the stage until we realized there were no ushers at all and wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to take their seats as the gf didn't want to get booted from seats. For some reason I was thinking it would be like a non dead concert with zero available seats when it was a dead convert where everyone got single tix and moved with their friends. Got some club level seats by the midfield speaker arrays and never heard sound that good in my life. I'm surprised that GA had bad sound. Unless you were not far enoigh back from those midfield speakers. Getting too close to the back of them or underneath is why the sound was echoey for us 1st set. We had to deal with the back of the main stage speakers. I think the best sound was probably like 15 rows up in the 100 section directly facing the stage.
