Sorry to be a downer but that first set was rough.  Deal was the highlight and it was nice that Bobby relinquished Standing. Liberty was a pleasant surprise and I thought Weir did a good job on it.

I got a good belly laugh at Bobby's ridiculous embellishment toward the end of Shakedown:  "Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now!"

Thus far, Friday Soldier's is THE show by a good margin.

The shows have been a bit inconsistent in my view.  Sometimes quite brilliant--other times definitely not.  The best times seem to be when the band is not operating as a modified version of Furthur or P&F with brilliant musicians relegated as sidemen.  It's a travesty that some of the songs have been butchered with terrible vocals, when it didn't have to be this way.  Hornsby in particular has not been utiilized anywhere near to what he should have been given his musical chops and superior voice.

Anyway, I would say that this has been better than I had feared, but less than it could have been.  Trey has exceeded my expectations, and I have been  impressed. He's done a commendable job considering how little time was available to come up to speed.  Nevertheless, at times I was just waiting for some Jerry-like guitar work, and it just wasn't there.  This was really a missed opportunity as far as I'm concerned.   You really have to wonder what this might have been with JK standing on stage playing guitar more like Jerry  would have sounded and singing in a more suitable voice.  There have been times I was just waiting to hear some magnificent guitar work during some of the songs, and it just didn't happen.  I think John would have really made this series of concerts a more special event, but I suppose certain egos and politics among the "core four" prevented it from happening.  It's a shame.  It's been fine, but it could have been truly mindblowing if the original members just ditched their need to be the stars and let some others shine.  I enjoyed seeing the boys in Santa Clara.  Don't really regret not traveling to Chicago, but very well might have if this had been done a bit differently and I could have seen something much closer to "The Last Grateful Dead Concerts".

I was at a BBQ and listening to the first set  on my iPhone and it sounded good to me and I enjoyed the song selection  ... left the BBQ during intermission and drove home to a digital audio feed on my pc for the second  , I have a pretty good system connected to my pc and get grate sound from it ... rocked out to the second set , not doubt about that ... to say I that  was critical during the beginning of all this would be a severe understatement ... all here that are  friends with me on FB saw how disgusted I was with them picking Trey for the lead spot ,,, mostly because I don't like Phish , I don't get their songs and I don't like what the Phishkids brought to the Dead shows in the early 90's ...  and , not to mention the mail order was a mess and the ticket prices were insulting , I think most would agree with that  ...  well , I'm still not a PhishPhan but  I'm digging the hell out of Trey Anastasio for all the heartfelt effort he has put  into his guitar playing and singing during these shows and also I have to give big respect to the senior citizens on the stage , them boys is old and still rocking their grey haired asses off , God bless them for that and all the years doing so ...  Tonight's show will be epic and all so bittersweet ... I will be hanging with close friends tonight , people that shared many shows together  , one of them is my best bud Rich ,,, I saw my very first GD show with him and my very last and at least a 100 in-between ... I'm looking forward to this gathering of old friends , we'll be reminiscing about old times , grate shows and Jerry ... What A Long Strange Trip Its Been !!!

I realized what a difference live is from home. Some of the most psychadelic music I've ever heard. I estimate they had about 16 jubilee size speaker arrays. Golden Road and birdsong were about the trippiest thing I've ever heard and a lot of that was the sound. Yes there were lots of screwups. I think Hornsby forgot west LA and bobby missed coming in a few times but the playing mistakes just melted you more.

I can't even find it so maybe you didn't say that but these shows were not very psychedelic. I think you may be blown away by stadium sound and your own psychedelic state. I wasn't there but I assure you the majority of this board and heads willing to tell the truth would say DSO thursday show was the most psychedelic music played all weekend. Trey was not more psychedelic with his playing then Jerry even if he used more effects. His notes are too sharp and piercing. Jerry's fat juicy kicks and runs rain on you like a psychedelic shit storm that starts in the deep darkness of hell and ends in the gentle breeze of heaven.

Rude I hope you know I love you buddy and I'm glad I met but sometimes you say thingd, Trey more psychedelic than Jerry. DSO played beat show you ever heard that makes me wonder how much Jerry do you listen to and whether you truly appreciate the greatness that was Garcia.

I'm sure you do. The comments just make it seem otherwise. Maybe go to Santa Cruz for a dead dance. They get psychedelic and listen to Jerry may help you get to that feeling you only get at live shows but with Jerry.

It was the stadium surround. The sound was moving around so much. Maybe it was where we were dancing but we were like holy crap you coukd almost see the sound moving left to right in the air. Also trying to sync the sound creates delays from some speakers unless you are exactly where they sync the speakers. It very well could have been a delay that created the effects

I'd love to get a regular dance party goin at a local music venue.  There are some interested folks here in the Triangle area but in the words of the owner:  "I'm a fan too but also a business-owner.  This ain't San Francisco my friend."

Found said much more succinctly.

I encourage all to attend a dead dance.  Ask me about Santa Cruz and their click in person and I may not be so kind.  I certainly appreciate the company of some of that group.  For the most part, they are all great dancers.  I would stop short of calling it the most psychedelic dance party in existence because like others here have encourage me to do, I try to keep an open mind and not have preconceived notions.  I've also been encouraged to remember the line "get shown the light in the strangest of place..."  I would say with only having attended 3 of them that they have a very consistent psychedelic dance party on the highest level that pays homage to Garcia and the GD.  For me, the most psychedelic dance party can happen anywhre.  Like mango said and I agreed, at the end this is about the dance, myself, and the music.  Others do not matter.  I've had those nights at the quarry, in Jamiaca, the Jubilee, Mango's spot in philly when everyone went to sleep and I danced to Jerry in the kitchen all night long, on my deck in Evergreen, etc.  The most psychedelic dance party can happen anytime you truly open your soul to this music (psychedelics and other dancers not required).
