I watched the stream and enjoyed it more than I expected. There was some good music produced though nothing earth shattering and they all had their moments. Turn Jeff UP!! He was ripping at times but way too low in the mix (and Bruce, too for that matter). Bobby sang too many for my taste and he is not able to hold Row Jimmy or Wharf Rat in the way they need to be held. I thought Trey was able to do some nice jamming sprinkled throughout that was more pleasing to my ear than I expected. Bobby was strong on his own tunes and his voice held pretty damn well for his age and I just appreciated seeing him still putting it all out there on the line.

From the outside Billy's look and body language seemed as though he was agitated and grumpy much of the time--didn't look like he was experiencing much joy, but by the time drums was over I came to the conclusion that Mickey had dosed heavily and Billy was feeling some resentment that he had to hold it down by himself and do all the work! I don't know, but it was just hard to see/hear a lot of contribution from Mickey during most songs...?

Guess I don't even need to mention the He's Gone train wreck...oops, I mentioned it.

I actually thought Bobby closed with a nicely sung Brokedown--he pulled off that one much better than I would have thought. Can't help but notice the configuration on their final bow at the end standing arm in arm with Trey in the middle separating Billy/Mickey from Phil/Bobby but I'm probably reading into tgat more than necessary.

Overall I enjoyed my time watching and hearing this and continue to be thankful and supportive tgat they are taking the time to honor this half century mark together. I will be glad when all the hype is over and dissipates. But this is one moment, in my opinion, when it is not just all about the music. These gigs seem like more important symbolically to me. It would have been disappointing had they not come together to honor this 50yr mark. I never expected the music to be the best ever but they are providing the opportunity for people to come together and have a good time enjoying what they are offering. I am glad to see it from home and do not wish to be there but very happy for those who chose to be there and hope they had a blast. There's still 3 more shows and I am open to being blown away by some musical moments but not counting on it.

But I don't always need to be blown away to thoroughly enjoy it and appreciate what they are doing.

And by the way, the set break imagery and music was very tastefully done on the stream (images of band members and extended GD family all along the way).

Curious what other people thought of the show...

And then Greensleaves crystallizing and reflection refracting light on harpsichord (?) . Just quintentionally on the mark like William Tell. And what a reunion.

Loved loved Trey's vocals on Alabama Getaway and for me the rose unfolded its fragrance a little sweeter and filled the air.

Reunion from floor to stands across the void of into hallway. My Dayna and Andius together. Beautiful sweet sweet love. They were speaking of me from 1989 and I appeared before them.

Loved watching the signing of I Need A Miracle. Effing awesome.

Big SC reunion. Lanihammer and Hungsa are the best tour guides.

Be gentle with yourselves and others. Dysfunction is the opportunity to empty your bowl of light of stones. You may not know they were there.

Reading Waking the Tiger by Peter A Levine. Highly recommend to all interested in healing and understanding trauma.

Heal the planet. In small ways every day. I loved Bobby for missing a lyric because you put yourself out there in the best way and gotta love his recovery. A message to all those perfectionists out there. You can fall gracefully and pick yourself up gracefully if you have love for where you are

"find what you love. Love what you find" and the world becomes brighter. Amazing opportunity with these guys are honoring their work and the people who come and love the all the paths.

Reunions are like this. There was some powerful gathering there. I am so thankful to dance and express Gratitude one more time after all the years with my buddies from 1987-1992 with the core 4 !!! What a joy

Hunter showed us the edge of upside and downside Perhaps like big brothers the band was surrounding Trey with love for his participation. It is all chemistry and you find what you seek. Utopia means no place , a mythical place and the dream is full of love to get you there.

Yeah, my buddies and I were talking about our younger selves. The cakewalk, the dumbass and the Know It all (. Confessional, ha! Together our group had it all though.....

It was quite an impressive spectacle to see this live.  Production values were excellent.  It's amazing that so few and spartan speaker stacks can so clearly fill that huge space.  The sound was crystal clear even all the way straight back.  And the light show during drums was sensational.

Musically this show should have been, for me, a train wreck, with Weir hammering us with one Garcia/Hunter number after the next.  But you know what?  I had a blast.  Every time Weir was taking the music off a precipice it seemed that Trey showed up with a tasteful jam that tied it all together.  He did fine job with Alabama, and if you don't think he can sound like Garcia check out the final solo on Brokedown.

In fairness though, I may be biased due to the cushy accommodations I was given, as a guest in a 49er luxury suite.  A private bathroom, cheese, fruit, and cold cut spreads, a fridge full of Lagunitas IPA, tequila shots, Chalone pinot, and seats so plush I would pine for them on my next flight can certainly help a Head get through the evening.   :580:  The box also came with some GA passes, but somehow I wasn't motivated to brave the floor.

Having just seen the new Weir movie on Netflix (highly recommended), and coming out of it with a beautiful sense of Bobby's closeness with Jerry, I think it may have been somehow easier to accept all the Garcia material Weir pounded us with.  If this indeed is to be the final big celebration, I'm happy enough to let Bobby do it on his terms.

Phil sang , "Eyes Of The World" , worse than ever ... I couldn't believe what I was hearing ... all things considered , it was still a pretty good show ... Trey was good , probably the most consistent good on the stage ...

I liked both John and Island Bros response...but I have to say I thought Billy crushed it. That guy is a great drummer period. I thought him and Trey last night were the best players on stage, but thought everyone's heart is in the right place and they all did well.Trey saw over 100 shows. He is a Dead Head period. It was the right choice. More importantly it's nice for fans to get together at house parties or the shows or wherever to acknowledge those that helped provide the soundtrack of a life well lived. No cynicism from this 52 year old Deadhead. Will be in the house on Sunday. Thought Phil and Bobby were very strong vocally on the 1/2 Step>Wharf Rat Opener. Understanding Phil being strong is not Exactly Pavarotti.

Livin it up like the fat cats.

Funny anecdote on the fat cats - our generous hostess who owns the suite said she sold it for the Saturday night show to a group just as ticket to the shows were released.  They paid $15,000, and the buyers never used it.  They apparently also had floor seats and they went to the floor and never left.  WTF?  At least they saved the catering costs.  It's scary to think what popping the cap on a Lag IPA costs in there, much less a full bottle of premium tequilla. :o

Well...I had a great time. Took me a while to get to the floor. I was super overwhelmed for a minute there. Relaxed in a seat for a song or so and decided to follow my ear to somewhere with better sound and dance. When I got there I saw an entrance to the field that wasn't crowded with people. I felt called to it. I walked up to the security guard with a smile and handed him my non-floor ticket. He told me to put my ticket in my pocket and not pull it out again and he gave me a bracelet. Sweet!! Joy overtook me as I joined the dancing, celebrating masses. Second set is where it really got going for me. I can't say much for the music.... It's more about the totality of the experience, the hugeness. I felt a lot of anxiety about going to the show but once in the celebration could not be denied. The power of the shared intention to come together, celebrate and honor this music is sacred, holy. I wish people brought this energy to Dso shows more because the music is beyond worthy!

I am humbled and feel blessed to have been a part of it. All thoughts and opinions aside, you never know when you'll get shown the light~

Grateful <3

Aaron, nice post and I think it really boils down to your two comments I excerpted above.

My complaints are far and few between.

The guys bickering over their seats on one supposed row and then to the next when my buddy moved once again for the 4 beer each wielding brohams when seats abounded and plenty for all around. They showed up with kick ass in their hearts. The show hadn't started and clearly they were not of the what goes around comes around mindset. So we jammed out hard to Feel like a Stranger. It was the cherry for all the weirdness of the critics making judgements without evidence or room for freedom. No complaint there.

Chopper got his answer on what happens to Loser perhaps. He puts his money where his love is. All chips in. Like the Sailor. No strategery. Is it better to know love and lose? Aint got half of what you thought you had. And there is release and freedom once you drop that stone. No complaint there.

Black Peter. sweet sweet Black Peter. I had my sweet friends new and old around me. This tune was my dance out alone, by myself in the halls among the stander buyers and the traveling. A few whirling dervishes. It was so powerful to hear and delicate. My complaint is there was no cold water in the bathroom to cool off with so I stood in the wind. When I joined section 103, the wind was blowing. Change. I cooled down. Complaint met with due process.

Hell in a Bucket ended. Aw.

The guy letting me on the floor gave me an F on my ticket. But Steve made it! about 40 deep. Wahoo! one more down. I couldn't stop to talk to Mango. In full on bliss and emotion, crying for my friend's crying because we love and miss each other,  trying to reach my friends. And I did! Sorry, Mango. I am glad you had a good time and I got to see you for a sec. It made me smile.

Phil singing Eyes. terrible.

Bruce Hornsby singing better but not my fave. Seemed to lack veracity and passion.

It was hard to hear Jeff and I know he can bring it from the Wallingford shows. Not a fan of White Limousine playing.

Getting into the show was a bitch the first night. Not enough metal detectors down front. ? !!?! Like 5.

Still trying to land. Beautiful night.

PS forgot a gripe

People didn't quiet down immediately when Bobby asked for a moment of silence for those who could not be present. Oh wait everyone did and you could hear the buzzing of the amps. No complaint there.
