Please keep in mind that the Thursday show is a REX benefit with a portion of the proceeds going to the REX foundation to give grants to deserving Chicago area music and art institutions.

The Friday show is a Celebration of the life of Scott Larned.

Think I'm going to go see terrapin flyer w/Melvin seals July 4th if I can't get dead tix. I see rob b is playing with them on the 5th. I'm assuming it will be a solid gig. Has anyone seen them play?

Just reserved myself a bed at the Parthenon hostel for the Friday and bought a DSO ticket. The Parthenon had a bed open in the male dorm and prices mysteriously have returned to normal. Plus my finances are looking better now. Should be a very high energy show and walking around the city should be interesting to say the least.

edit: The Parthenon still has beds for $30 on July 2nd and 3rd in a male dorm room. Checked a few other hostels and they are either booked or $60-140 for a bed.

I'm there for the July 2nd show Rob  :dsorocks:

I bought 6 tix as soon as I heard the show was announced.

I will be in Chicago from the 2nd to the 6th with my sister, her husband and their 2 boys.

Didn't realize that it was 18+ for DSO, so my 13 year old nephew Riley (who is a huge fan) won't be able to go :(

He & i are really bummed about that, so i am taking him to The City Winery the next day for brunch to see Kimock & Jerry Joseph.

His brother Liam turns 18 next week, so he's in for the July 2nd DSO show.

I scored mail order tix for the GD50 shows, so the gang of us will be there for all 3 nights.

It would be a real treat for Riley to meet you Rob, I hope we can meet up over the weekend at some point.

We're staying at the Crowne Plaza for the 4 nights, so ring me up if you get the chance brother.

I once had a friend I respect tell me that it would be a tough call for him if DSO and JRAD both playing his town. I can't really speak on it. Never listen to a JRAD show. I have heard most of the players in the band in varies other projects or packages. Even hung with Tom Hamilton as he swooned a lady with his acoustic. He said the dead touched his life but he had no interest in playing dead tunes or even seeing someone else play them that night. Of course, he was making his money with his rave party electronica project brothers past while his true passion was good old Americana with his band American Babies. I guess the dead cash cow is just as good as the rave cash cow. I'll see them someday but agree with dead duck. No interest in a fresh take. I want it the way Jerry played it.

Glad Russo still turning the next generation onto the GD. Hopefully they realize the real deal is better.

JRAD has Very cool setlists and are really jazzy but their jams completely leave the framework of the song. So if u want to hear jamming completely unrelated to the dead song they begin with they are your band. Their tour dates are severely lacking as they have nothing going but a few fests this summer. They all have their side projects. Not sure if they want this as a full time gig. I know Marco at jubilee was pretty insane doing his solo stuff a few years ago and besides DSO he was a buddy's favorite act and he even traveled to see him again. I can't see how he'd abandon that to do JRAD full time.

They sound pretty good a lot of the time...although the show I heard was with Phil Lesh. They rock the songs hard and jammy and play 'crazy' setlists. If they'd played here i'd check it out. but I stand by my first statement.

I'll eventually catch an Ogden JRAD show or a festival set. I'm a little surprised how much festivals pool JRAD in as the dead band for the weekend. I know this one dead band they sound so much like the real thing. It's crazy. If I had a festival, that band would play.

I assume DSO commands a little more money than JRAD does for fests. At least DSO is billed higher at allgood(bigger letters for their name). It would be upsetting if JRAD got bigger billing. And this whole Philly NYE thing started way too early lol. But the new Fillmore looks pretty cool. I know that Charlotte Fillmore was bad ass!!!! It's going to be interesting to see how NYE plays out. If DSO does 2 in Philly I don't doubt that some will see DSO night 1 and JRAD the 2nd night. Not referring to anyone here as there's no choice for us. I actually refused to see JRAD in St Loyis a few months ago as I felt like id be betraying DSO. Yeah it know that's weird but I didn't want to really like them so I turned down a close show.

never seen jrad, heard probably 20 of their shows. I dig em. I am a little conflicted. if theres 2 night of dso in philly, I might think about it. if one or the other one did a late night set on NYE, that would be the best imho. imagine jrad from 7-10, dso from 10-2. I think the venues are pretty close.  on a different note who is going to Chicago- pretty much talked myself into taking the ride, check out dso, denson and whatever else.

Tickets bought for DSO. Lodging secured. Driving up Thursday morning. Seems like dead tix have stabilized or even have gone up as the people trying to get a deal are being forced to bid higher on ebay with the event approaching. I'm holding out for a miracle for July 4th but my max is 400.00 for a pair and the cheapest for a pair atm is around 700. I'll see terrapin flyer for 30 bucks b4 I pay 350 a tic for the dead. I could see the dead on Friday for 400 for a pair but that kills a DSO show so not interested in that trade off.

I've got a few lines out in contests and such, but other than a miracle I won't be in the Windy City that weekend. I thought about the leftover salmon party showing the gd50. It sounds fun but it's only for the first 2 nights. I really feel like the finale is the only one I must see. I've heard of a few places showing the 4th's show fairly locally. Don't want to watch in a theatre. May go watch the 4th somewhere then get the stream for the 5th. Or I did hear that the ledges is showing all 3 nights with fireworks on the 4th. It would be nice to catch all 3 shows without having to worry about transportation or hotels. I may do that but I'm also going up there 2 weeks later for JK and Melvin. We'll see how it all plays out

Lots of Santa Clara tickets seems to showing up around cost. Chicago seems to carry much more cachet however. I guess since Santa Clara was an afterthought!

I saw some selling for 40 bucks a ticket on stubhub for crap seats. The face of 220 a ticket with fees for the seats with views is already pretty steep and people in that area can see Phil any time they want to. It's not as much of a novelty in Cali. Plus they aren't the last shows. Could you imagine the uproar if Santa Clara was after Chicago. Lawsuits would abound.
