Happy 75th Birthday to one: Philip Chapman Lesh!

The Cap will be the place to be tonight! It's gonna be a great show :) - not DSO - but still great! There will be streams - for dollars and for free.

Cheers to Phil for his passion and dedication to this music that has endured for so long. Happy 75th :)

Broken Arrow!  A great addition to the Dead's rotation in '93, IMHO.  On my very short list of Approved-Phil-On-Lead-Vocals tunes.  Which begs the question, what else is on that list?  Obviously Box.  Certainly Tom Thumbs as well.  Give 50% credit for Gimme Some Lovin'.  Anything else???

Ammagamalin, sure, let's give Phil another 50% credit (Brent gets the rest) for Keep On Growing.

ducats - Doh!  Of course, how could I leave out Unborken Chain?  (Well, I know how.  By the time the Dead busted this out Garcia was toast and couldn't give it any justice.  I kind of block it out sadly.)

So we are officially at 5 when adding the two 50% tunes together.  I'll even grant the verse to The Weight.  That puts us at 5.25 and counting.

Maggie's Farm indeed puts us at 5.45.

Childhood's End gets no credit whatsoever.  It almost deserves a demerit. The best thing about that song is Phil seemed to realize it sucked. If he played it again post Grateful Dead I don't know about it.

Do It In The Road is an interesting one.  Does he get credit for that?

RB is more believable singing Althea than WH any day in my mind's eye.

Phil song.... I think he could pull off Big Boss Man nicely in his vocal range. WDWDIITR ..... Um no. Slipknot comes to mind. Like a hangman's knot. Definitely, Slipknot. He could slay Slipknot.

I like his contributions on the Eleven.

TBT: did you know Phil was Courtney Love's godfather ?

It reminds me of the Aoxomoxoa tree in the background of this video. People mused it was Courtney beside PigPen on the album photographed at Olompali. Actually, it is Bill Kreutzman's daughter.

The philzone guy is a dumbass. Put jam if you have to. Don't start naming jams.

He did get more than a little carried away - I feel ya there. Jam would have sufficed - there were more than a few segments.
