I'm sure this thread has been done before, but I don't see one specifically for this purpose...

I'm taking a trip back in time and listening to GD shows in chronological order by year...and I'm wondering what are yall's favorites??

I'd love to hear from the community on this one...

Thanks!!

depends on the day....but I love me a good 1973 show. A second set with lots of ">"s

I started off liking the early stuff the most....pigpen, pschedelia...

Definitely always down with 76-78

but in recent years have come to appreciate the later years quite a bit (79 with Brent >...)

It's all different....It's all Grateful Dead

Not that (of course) I wouldn't trust you, Tea, but I spot checked two of your links - '85 and '88.  The shows you chose from both those years would very possibly have been my picks as well.  Nice work.

Maybe I got a touch of the 'tism' for this music - I'll cop to that I guess.

"Come-on Tea.  It wasn't 2/5/78 at the Unidome - sorry.  I know you thought you were right but DSO is actually playing 5/5/78 at Thompson Arena at Dartmouth College.  It was an honest mistake - it's ok buddy."

I'll be ok :)

good pick for 85 but i'll add this one, always been one of my faves https://archive.org/details/gd1985-06-27.sbd.gmb.79382.flac16

81 i'll add this crispy DickLatvala SBD, amazing ChinaRider https://archive.org/details/gd81-02-26.sbd.lutch.4597.sbeok.shnf

84 one of the best of the year, incredible J.Straw to close first set https://archive.org/details/gd1984-10-20.sbd.miller.105445.flac16

82 has some of the most creative setlists in Gd history, can never forget about Phil's Earthquake Space https://archive.org/details/gd82-04-18.sbd.miller.18116.sbeok.shnf

and the next night's The Raven Space https://archive.org/details/gd1982-04-19.sbd.clugston.28291.sbeok.shnf

1989 is an extremely strong year, i dont care what anyone says, the 3night AlpineValley run in July and both nights as "Formerly the Warlocks" Hampton run in October are proof, many gems to be found, like July4th,  Miami and the 3night GreatWesternForum tour-closing run in Inglewood in december

I love all eras/years but the fall 1977 East Coast run is ON POINT! Its only a few shows but they're all great and the playing was really solid for this entire mini-tour. Here's the shows:

*11/4/77 is Dave's Picks 12 and 11/5/77 is Dick's Picks 34

The 5/1/77 Palladium show is a smoker. The DSO version was as well. 7/11/2008.

Saw DSO do that show in Nashville last year. 5 song 2nd set is alright in my books!!!!!!

You would have loved the 2008 show. Plenty of dancing room in a wide open field.

Nashville is as empty as I've seen DSO. 5 ft from stage with as much room as u could ask for. In 2012 I was 1 of about 15 people inside when DSO started. Was actually pretty weird dancing by myself. Filled up with around 200 people. Needless to say they only schefule Nashvegas every couple years and doubt it will be in the rotation now that they have cut touring down a tad.
