darkstar
Really in the mood for a second set cold rain and snow (gd), recommendations. Then likely I'll be now listening.
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted January 30, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 30, 2015 Off hand, I got two suggestions. In the late 70s, it mostly appeared as an opener, but 11/4/77 and 7/7/78 both have 2nd setters. I think 11/4/77 is one of the Grateful Dead's best 77 shows. Forum MVP Tea Posted January 30, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 30, 2015 10/12/84 kicks off the 2nd set although some folks are less enthralled with Jerry's vocal stylings in 84. Jerry's licks are just fine tho - Sick Dew to close Can't go wrong with 5/11/78 - CRS opens and it's off to the races from there
Forum MVP Mango Posted January 30, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 30, 2015 5-11-78 --- AMAZING. They are clearly flying on something. Scarlet>Fire, Dancin are off the hook with great vocal flourishes. We listened to this in the RV late night at the Jubilee this year, had us all in a trance. Quote Bixby, about Bobby, "he's a ventriloquist!!". lol. however I have a 2nd set CR&S that I just love https://archive.org/details/gd82-04-18.sbd.miller.18116.sbeok.shnf goes right into Samson, which Bobby precedes by saying something like, "gather round children, it's time for your sunday sermon now" love it. good show. Forum MVP Rude Posted January 30, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 30, 2015 5-11-78 --- They are clearly flying on something. Considering Jerry's large vocal change from 77 it must be the honey water he sprays on his pipes.

liquidsmoke
I think 11/4/77 is one of the Grateful Dead's best 77 shows. Sunrise! I'd love to see DSO do this. If I ever have it was long ago and the memory is lost in the haze.
