So me and my girlfriend will be going to all three shows for the 50th anniversary run. Plan on doing it sometime during the first night. Was just looking for some insight if anyone else has ever proposed at a grateful dead show. Thanks!!

I bet it happens more than you know. A good TLEO, Good Loving, Don't Let Go (@ JGB), The World to Give, Attics of my Life. Someone might have even made a proposal after Deal: jk, not a good idea.  Just be sure the song is right. It will present itself, a loving moment. Don't hurry it. You gotta walk in faith in this world. Faith in the moment, goodness, and in the dream.

Best of luck and congratulations!!

wesposey,

The perfect moment, of course, is Peggy-O.  In fact, friends mine got engaged during Peggy-O 12/27/87.  We were there together but not in the same seats, so we heard about it afterward.  Her name is Katie, so from there forward that version became known as Katie-O.

Yea I definately get where your coming from. Just like in life the Grateful Dead always seem to make everything just exactly perfect. I'll know when the music tells me to do it. Just hoping that will be the first night! Haha. It will definately be an unforgettable July 4th weekend! Does anybody else have a story of popping the question at grateful dead shows?

I suggest running on to stage and doing it. Security will wlways let stuff like that slide. U see it in too mamu movies for it not to be true.

You know your a deadhead when....the word many autocorrects to mamu.

Engaged, no. Married? close. We chose to split our wedding reception between a GD show at Nassau the night we got married and one five days later at home (Philly), where we and a bunch of our friends had tickets in the 10th row floor. Halloween will be our 36th anniversary, so the karma must have worked. The truly cosmic moments came when they opened both shows with China Cat/Rider, which would have been what we picked if we had our choice. And they didn't open too many first sets in the late-70s to the end with that combo, so it was pretty cosmic and cool.

One comment on some suggestions of the right time to propose at the shows. Has anyone listened to the LYRICS of Peggy-O? It's about a woman who wouldn't marry her man because he didn't have enough money and then he died intent on destroying her village for snubbing him. Might I suggest - if you want to stay in that vein of the "Child's Tales" songs - Jack-A-Roe? THAT's a song about a woman who risks all to save her man, marry him and live happily ever after. And, of course, there are plenty of other GD songs that are about positivity, happiness and love.

Congrats in advance!  :580:

Awww, come on analog, since when have the actual meanings behind the songs been worth anything?

Next you'll tell us that in Black Muddy River when Jerry sings, "when it seems like this night will last forever" it's actually a mournful lament and it isn't appropriate for the crowd to enbrace it as an uplifting plea and cheer wildly.

Hmmm.....well, ok, I guess you've got a point.

El Paso is another great song to propse to...What's more romantic than killing a guy flirting with the girl u are stalking.

Minglewood or Red Rooster.  What's more romantic than serial promoscuity.

Althea, no?

Alright, I'll play fair.  Attics is so very nice and prolly at the top of my list.  SOTM, If I had the World to Give, Two Souls and Sugar Mags might work pretty well too!

If u are strapped for cash, World to give would be a good one. If u have tons of money avoid that song like the plague.

Peggy-O is a great stalker song as well. Modern day it's after I get out of prison I will kill you and your family. I still didn't understand why Peggy-O's family wasn't rejoicing when they heard the news of his death. Times were tough back then and they and the females in that town dodged a bullet.
