What an amazing 2nd set. I assume that lisa was sick as she didn't do a filler night 1 or sing in this original? I saw her on Tims balcony so I thought this was another 85 show at 1st hearing another keep on growing with no Donna mic. Another promised land was surprising for an original but it's always such a fun dance song and crowd pumper so I can't complain. I think the Death Don't was the highlight of the show for me. That terrapin had a long extended end jam which is hard to beat with all the permutations the band can do there. The Black muddy river was such a perfect encore to send me on my way home. The 12 hour drive to Ky the next day was one of the worst experiences of my life. Id have rather been water boarded than drive those last 4 hours.

The 1st set had its moments and it felt like a standard 80’s all the way.  That was of course until Russian Lullaby.  So intricate, so fragile, with a jazz/blues fusion to these ears.  I stopped dancing a few times and just watched Jeff do his thing on this tune.  It was expertly controlled recklessness that simply blew me away.  Absolute wizardry in my opinion.  Music was a fantastic romp with a breathtaking finish.  While I really missed Lisa on this one, they really did a fantastic job.

That 2nd set had a little of everything I needed and wanted.  A bouncy Reuben and a nice jammy Unbroken.  The LIG was played at ludicrous speed with some wonderful Latin flavor sprinkled throughout .  A HUGE Terrapin with extendo-jam followed – headband lingered for a little longer before finally joining his mates.  Drums/Space was very 80’s.  Space wound down with some almost Close Encounter-esque themes  before the raunchy WDWDIITR.  Cosmic Mike had all the 50-YO ladies encircling him at this point although there were a couple in his age-group giving him a look.  SUPER tight, super dancy, super fun.  Somehow this snaked its way into the Eleven which left me stupified.  Never heard a bad rendition and this one simply sparkled.  By this time, the balcony was thinning out just a little bit and I had all the space I wanted to channel the sound into dance.  It was freaking dance-party USA up there for the whole post-space.   As the Eleven unfolded, my flail was red-lining and still everything was in perfect motion.

The Death Don’t was simply unbelievable.  I’ve seen DSO blow out that tune a few times and this one was just flat-out crazy.  Haunted.  Sorrow-personified.  I could hear and feel the loss, the angst, the helpless and painful fact of life.  Shook me to the core and then flattened me.  Crazy.

Then a hard left turn into Good Lovin (complete with some LaBamba hints).  The band was gassed but they still dug deep and gave it everything they had.  Absolute liftoff.

Black Muddy River was poignant and just what the good Dr. Ordered.

More water next time – just didn’t want to miss a minute.  Legendary cramps everywhere on the cab to the hotel.  Rude thought I was having a stroke. The sweetest pain tho..... :)  GREAT show!

Good times - good folks!

Looks like I should have stuck around for these two ....

...but I had my fill of East Coast.

Might get it together to write some reviews for the new years shows at some point... waiting to hear recordings to make my old memories come alive~

Great review, Tea! Awesome to have you come down to DC and unleash some havoc on the dance floor with me. Sounds like it was just what your doctor ordered! I will continue to shimmy and shake for ladies of all ages  :). Oh the blessings of the liberated atmosphere that this music provides!
