Forum MVP John A Posted December 30, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 30, 2014 Did Mattson play guitar during Keep On Growing? (Apologies if my memory fails me but doesn't Garcia's guitar come in strong for the 1/2 Step Intro after being virtually silent for the 2nd set opener?) Mojo Hand
Can't say I noticed whether or not Jeff was playing during Keep on Growing.....but I can tell you it totally rocked. It had a really nice dance groove to it. Well played. Definitely one of the evening's highlights. The Electric Factory was packed and it was hard to find a spot where crowd chatter was not annoying. The chatter ruined an otherwise nice Stella Blue....for me anyway. There was a very friendly dance pocket in the back center of the room by the concession stands where I settled in for most of the second set. Great vibe in that little area. In my opinion, the best stuff of the night were the high energy rockers. Hell in A Bucket, Saint of Circumstance, and Throwing Stones made the night a real dance party. The run of Althea, Cassidy, Brown Eyed Women, and OMSN to end the first set was played SO well. I can't remember ever hearing a better Althea. Great Energy. A great night and a sweet setlist from one of my favorite eras. Hope to make it to DC this weekend. Happy New Year Everyone!
Forum MVP Ammagamalin Crew Posted December 30, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 30, 2014 The GD 1985 show had the band playing the Twilight Zone theme outta space as the band was responsible for the music for the new TZ shows that came out that year. Terrapin_Sedation
Jeff definitely bubbling during Keep on Growing, which was a treat, don't know why that didn't remain in GD lineup after played a few times. That was tune that clued me into 85 because saw it same run at Merriweather. Thought it was 88ish before then with the Hell>Sugaree Agree with above comment about the Althea to OMSN to finish first set. But I would also add All Over Now in that list because it really rocked in a syncopated way that was different to my ears (love it when an imo "ordinary" tune elevates, and same can be said for Walkin' Blues - AKA Turbo Minglewood). First set was Clicking every step of the way. Of those tunes, Cassidy was highlight. Really stretched and got into that lovely gooey-spacey place that song does not always get to. After Keep on Growing, Miss. 1/2 Step was grrrreat. And I also enjoyed the St.Lost but third quarter was too short. (Can't change history). A nice Fantasy to climb out of a strong drumz and brief space... dancing fourth quarter with a beautiful Stella (comment above was right on about the chatter; 1/2 that place was clueless to what was happening) sandwiched between the Miracle, Ashes>NFA with mmmbop (cheez-wit) to close. The Brokedown was sweet and that Easy Wind (w/Lisa on harmonica)was a breath of funky hot air to finish the night. Placed was packed to gills. But folks did their best to move with flow. rolandstone
First DSO show - Had a great time was first row center bopping with my two sons ! Lots of fun - now got to rest these weary bones - lol. (although I do have to say that it was a drag that we waited in line to get in and then had go to will call because we had to exchange the QR code tickets (DSO fan club) for bar code tickets - what is up with that - and why no announcement to exchange them while we were waiting ??) /end rant
Mojo Hand
Yes...same thing happened to me with the ticket exchange Security did their search on me and sent me through, at which point the person checking tickets sent me back out to will call to exchange the DSO fan club ticket for a "regular" ticket. And then.....I had to go through security again (which totally sucked, considering.........)

dleonard
Another great DSO show. They are really packing the Electric Factory when they come through there, way more than I remember 10 years or so ago. Wish they would've started a little bit earlier on a Monday night tho. Forum MVP dsostar Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 What a night! I enjoyed, it was crowded – but people found their space. Not too much conflict in such close quarters – unless you bumped 1 too many times into the grumpy old bearded man front/center 1 off rail. My buddy Mike bumped into him and he bucked back. I really enjoyed the first set. Cassidy….Cassidy was the tune that got me on the bus. I had a tape of an acoustic live version that I played over and over while sunning in Avalon, NJ - the summer of ’85. Flight of the Seabirds”, Indeedio man. So, I GROOVED to tonight’s Cassidy. And sweeeeeet Candyman. The 2nd set really went deep in Drums-space….classic 80’s. Rob K. skied a couple drumsticks in the 2nd set – but caught every 1! Who said a percussionist can be a juggler 2? Happy New Year! Best wishes to 2 fabulous nights in NY, hope you folks enjoy!
Forum MVP August West Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 The 2nd set really went deep in Drums-space….classic 80’s. Saw the new big drums up there. They broke them out at PP. Only 2nd time played. Half Step was one for the ages!

Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 Not true but his number is way up there. Def top 5 show total of people I know. Legendary 3 year run
Forum MVP dsostar Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 Not Joseph. Although I have seen Joseph riled up before - hollering at a kid w/a Nitrous tank. I saw Joseph on the rail - the resident grouch was shorter/stockier.
Forum MVP August West Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 Not true but his number is way up there. He told me he has done 400 something. Don't know anyone with those numbers. Maybe you, Pres, Bix? Vegas was up there at one point but he's prolly out of the top 5 now.

Forum MVP August West Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 Your right Conway can possibly be near those numbers. If that's the Steve your referring too. Tucket is in the 200's, like me.

Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted December 31, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 31, 2014 I think I'm still just short of 400 but not sure. I'd have to get some form of count together. Those at the shows. Enjoy

Forum MVP Rude Posted January 1, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 1, 2015 Lots more room than the night b4 and people weren't forcing their way into tiny crevices like in richmond. By 2nd set we had plenty of room to groove. The gf enjoyed this show more than richmond which surprised me as it wasn't as dancy but we weren't shoulder to shoulder with everyone either so she had room to dance. I was happy that she had a big smile the whole time her 1st 2 shows. She wanted more the 2nd night. I was dead tired and she wanted to keep dancing. These were the 1st shows I had to be responsible for someone else but seeing her huge smile gave me added enjoyment. Encoring with Brokedown is always a treat. It's sort of weird having a song played after brokedown or a bid U goodnight and would prefer the filler to be played 1st. Saturday will be our 6 month anniversary and what way better to celebrate it than with a DSO show.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted January 1, 2015 Forum MVP Report Share Posted January 1, 2015 I'm stalled out at around 375. I could get up and verify it but that would be too much like work. On track to hit 400 in '17. Party on, Wayne.
