Forum MVP Tea Posted December 17, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 Bummer. Rock was a pivotal figure in the history of the GD. After 20 years as the 'Manager' he saw many musical evolutions and could tell stories that would burn off both your ears. On to the great gig in the sky... Forum MVP John A Posted December 17, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 After 20 years as the 'Manager' he saw many musical evolutions and could tell stories that would burn off both your ears. And he told many of these stories in his book, IIRC. RIP
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted December 17, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 “Rock Scully crossed the great divide this morning. I got the call he was passing just as I was about to load up the car for a visit to Monterey to see him. Those of you lucky enough to have known him know that despite his human frailties, he was a loving, gentle, bright (actually brilliant), handsome, witty and especially charming rogue who brought people together, made them laugh and grow, and had a huge, generous heart.”

the highway terror
RIP Rock Scully on Nov. 9th, Willie Legate also passed away. He was one of Jerry and Hunters intellectual friends from their Palo Alto days and was the Deads first tape archivist, a job he turned over to Dick Latvala. RIP Willie

Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted December 19, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 Used libraries' card catalogues for research. As kids we went outside where we rode bikes without helmets, drank from hoses, and played on swings and monkey bars. We even knew people's phone numbers and dialed them. Forum MVP Tea Posted December 19, 2014 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 We even knew people's phone numbers and dialed them. My eldest brother took the lead on changing our phone # when we moved. It was 313.333.4323 (313.DEDHEAD). All my mom said was: "It sure has alot of 3's in it" 867-5309 was taken. Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted December 19, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 Actually learned things. You can't learn about the hells angels on line or in a book. Can't really learn about the dead that way either. Literature good for lesson 101 but if you want to learn about the angels, risk your life get a bike and go ride with some. Forum MVP Island Bro Posted December 19, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 Just trusted that we would see/find our friends at the next show and catch up with them in person. Focused on what was happening in the moment rather than constantly keeping in touch (texting, etc.) with someone somewhere else
Forum MVP Rude Posted December 19, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 What's funny is me and all my high school friends were talking about how we ever found each other at night. Realized we sat in cars a lot waiting and the grapevine was integral to our success. Luckily the only convenience store in our part of town didn't mind kids parking there and evebtually Soneone would drive by and tell us where everyone was. Much simpler time. No one worried about car trouble not having communication. Now no way I could go driving sans phone.
