Forum MVP John A Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Not unexpected, but now official: http://www.jambands.com/news/2014/11/04/furthur-officially-call-it-quits/
SunSue
I had really hoped that when they said "hiatus", they meant it. I enjoyed the music and energy Furthur produced far more than any other post-1995 Phil/Bob project. I hate to see them call it quits!!
Forum MVP John A Posted November 5, 2014 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 I imagine they determined that short of touring, it wasn't something they could commit to keeping together. And with Phil not "touring", well, it just wasn't in the cards. Hopefully Bob will make an appearance at TXR here and there at least.
Forum MVP Tea Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Sad to see them hang it up even if didn't really trip my trigger. I wish them all, (especially JK) nothin but the best!
Forum MVP PoetryGirl Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Is this in expectation of the demands of a 50th tour, you think ?
Forum MVP Tea Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Is this in expectation of the demands of a 50th tour, you think ? Tough to tell. Bobby's up-and-down health and Phils desire to limit touring to only a few 'Shappy-selected' locations (plus TXR), has probably more to do with Furthur hanging it up than the prospect of a 50th anniversary run by the core 4. I have no inside knowledge but it looks more and more like if they do anything at all it may just be a 3-show celebration and that's it. If they were planning to do a tour this summer that would hit stadium-sized venues across the country, I'm feeling like we would hear more about those wheels turning. So far, not much of a peep. The cash-grab potential is extremely high so there is no way to rule out something big. It just seems to me that there would be much more chatter if a multi-city summer tour was coming to fruition. I've been wrong a hell of lot more times than I've been right - Look no further than the Sports section of this community People could get rich being contrarians to my predictions. If that hueristic holds, bet the farm on a multiple-city extravaganza!
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 I think the dead will play at least 10 gigs in at least 3 cities in 2015 but what do I know.
Forum MVP Rude Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Well I remember someone asking Jerry something like your ticket prices are so much cheaper than other major touring bands. Why don't u increase prices. His comment was something like we make enough money. Why hurt the fans. If they did this 50th anni tour, supply and demand would dictate maybe 150-250 a ticket. That would require like Chicago, New York and San Fran.

Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted November 5, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 Will the end of Furthur mean bigger crowds for DSO? Hope so for the band, selfishly hope not for my own experience.
