Happy Birthday Brent!

He certainly is missed, and I can't help but wonder what path the GD would have taken had he remained alive and active during their last 5 years. The Built to Last album, while not very memorable, had plenty of Brent contributions (my favorite of them being Little Light), and seemed to be showcasing his talents more than the other band members. So sad that a mere 9 months later he was dead.

Ron Barraco can emulate Brent very well, and my spine has been tingled on many occasions when he has channelled him during 80's shows. His soul seems alive and well during those moments, and always provokes a smile from me that lasts a while. 31 years ago tonight I saw the Dead in Worcester, MA, and I can remember how much fun Brent seemed to be having at that show. At least I have those memories...

31 years ago tonight minus 5 days was the day I changed from a casual enjoyer of GD music to a believer.   Olympic Arena, Lake Placid, NY.   In an audience recording, I can pin-point the *exact* moment in the opening Sugaree.  Was right up against the front stage barrier for the opening 3 songs.   Relaxed backwards to more spacious space for the rest of the show.

31 years ago tonight minus 7 AND 8 days - Hartford, CT.   "Follow me to lake acid" was our battle cry.

{ sigh }
