first set is a little wonky here, can't quite recall the exact order...maybe it's right.

Truly a breakthrough night for me. Thank you band, crew, starheads....it is beyond a pleasure to take part of this great dance. It's been said a thousand times but I'll say it again, "i don't know what my life would be like without the grateful dead". And it was DSO that educated me and brought me up. They've always been my favorite. ahhhh....gush....Love!

Absolutely perfect 2nd set. Possibly my most enjoyable set I've seen in my life. Danced my ass off. Eaton was full blown rock star tonight. Jeff is so good and on world to give blew my mind after blowing it the entire 2nd set. Thank you guys for all the enjoyment u give us. Can't hardly pick a fav moment as all was so perfect. This rocker of a show was a perfect year ending show for me. I'll be listening to this show again very soon. Flat out spectacular.

Really perfect enjoyed the whole scene of happy dancing kind people that was just flat out full of joy. I got to dance like I love to ! ! A gift I realize Is most precious in my life and it is a helping blessing when there is such a great place to share this incredible form of music :a great space to do so too Some really top notch songs played that couldn't be more cherry picked Who was John whoa!!!!! Those low notes .... the harmony on NFA opened out of a sweet tenderly tendered World to Give ..... Oh the great seventy rockers first set !!!! Till the Morning Comes was a first at the show. Such a fat pre drums string of pearls Franklins was a joy watching the band especially Lisa celebrate this fantastic tune Actually composed some nice combination dance sequences A beautiful more lyrical dancer inspired me. DSO you really brought it home tonight the house came down a couple of times I think! Thank you. To share that aha moment is priceless and wondrous to see. Awe.

Yep just as I remember looking back today! Something good from all periods tied together nicely like a present..

Only negative of the night was the out of control guy upfront who head butted me falling backwards into me and then 3 songs later crashed into me, stomping my foot while obviously obliterated.

Peak performance. Dance Party from start to finish. Usually need a breather or 3 - this music had me full tilt from the 1st note to the last.

Selist will not illustrate the level of play this nite. Band was ready to deliver outta the gate and managed to obliterate my high expectations.

That Other One was one of craziest sonic onslaughts I've ever seen from this band over the last 8 years. I'll try for a full review later. Sufficed to say this show was somehow another gear if such a this/was possible. Still trying to piece it all together really....

On an unrelated note, KOA will not be inclined to have us back next year. We were respectful and still got the 5-O dispatched more than once. New accommodations next year. The KOA can eat my shorts....

All of the above is not overstated....Jeff's last 3 tunes....Who was John, World to Give, and Sing me Back Home,, still have me in awe a night sleep, and seven hour drive later. From the first drum beat in Sampson I never stopped dancing. If I felt I needed to rest, I just looked at Lisa and "danced with her". And danced we did, along with everyone else. Since I did the VIP thing had no hassle full spaced dancing experience right at the rail. Way more crowded then first night. The dancing lights in the trees was a well engineered treat.

November cannot come soon enough as I continue this bus ride.....

Really killer second night. First set highlights for were mission and till the mornin. Absolutely love both of those numbers. The whole second set was a highlight. Mattson beautifully tenderizes world to give and sing me back home. That other one was a rocket ride into a meteor shower.

And Tea was right, that KOA has lost our business. They referred to us as "you dead people" and couldn't for the life of them figure out why we don't go to bed. Fuck em. Money talks.

Yeah fuck the KoA. Fascist assholes who made us live in constant fear of bringing the sheriff on us. Escorting the cops to search campsites Saturday night was the last straw. They made it clear they don't want us there and that place is now dead to us. I advise that no one ever stay there. Dirty looks were the norm from the staff all weekend.

Besides that it was a perfect weekend hanging out with a wonderful group of fun, kind people. Now to the reality that I prob won't get a show until January :/

Anyone know the attendance Saturday night. Place was packed. I'd guess like 3k????

3K?!?  Seems a little rich - I'd say closer to 1,500 but WTF do I know.

That joint was hoppin indeed - It was a TOTAL Flailfest all around where we were and most places in-between.

Good to meet some more forum friends - so we get some faces along with the handles.  Kind, kind folks in Asheville - very welcoming and humble.  They can also cut some serious rug to boot.  Epic Times :)

Yes I  spun into a hard elbow to the back of my head from him, I struggled with telling him that we all look like we are out of control but aren't and that he is dangerous. I let it pass but next time if that happens to you let us know-we protect our own...

Lol. I bet it was hard to explain. Hahaha I am sure that to the casual eye the poetry of motion looks like an accident waiting to happen. Getting into a dance field is kind of like picking your time to jump in jump rope. All about timing and feeling the energy of the moment. Otherwise might be better to dance, keeping all close to home looking for cues on larger expressions of creative movement.

There was a younger girl in white that danced beautifully in interpreting the energy. Then Lisa has this tai chi she does that is very zen. At one point I surveyed the crowd and it was amazing!!! All a good time should and could be.

Like Weir and Wasserman

Festival.....

Don't need no excuse to have a parade

Exactly only my analogy is it's like merging onto a highway. Don't be crawling down the on ramp at 34mph and expect an easy time merging.

All the greatness of Black Mountain really culminated on this night! I enjoyed the show on Friday as well, and it was a wonderful time and felt a bit more so after a slightly precarious lodging situation that morning. Though that actually worked out really well. I did have this crazy headache during the Friday night show that threw me off. No lie, it really fucking hurt! But, recovery was smooth through a bizarrely deep slumber and I was so excited for this day.

Enjoyed the Samson opener in the first set, but I thought the real highlights were Till the Morning Comes and Who Was John; the Alabama closer was pretty hot too! Even though I've heard a number of DSO Missions I can never complain about hearing that song. It really has some fantastic lyrics, the kind you often think back to in moments of reflection and deep thought. I remember once reading an interview where Jerry specifically mentioned that song when he said that Hunter was such a great lyricist because he wrote Garcia's own thoughts and feelings in an accurate and poignant way. Barraco had a pretty cool solo during Who Was John, something to look out for and listen to again. The song felt so fitting at the time, being in the humid, deep south where the Biblical enthusiasm runs strong.

So thirsty by set break. Thanks for the free water tap Pisgah! Had great times hanging by the free water tap during set break running into many favorable folk, both good friends from times ago and new friends from the previous night.

I felt the band really started to lock in by the end of the first set, and the Stranger>Franklin's opener assured me so. Great music through and through! Many people told me to come to Black Mountain. They said it is an epic dance party. And, it was epic dance party! That place was awesome! I really liked the crowd there. Lots of fun people and the staff there all seemed pretty nice and friendly. I would like it if their speakers were not so focused towards the center, but either way I still got to hear. I was so happy when they left St. Stephen unfinished as they went into drums. For the whole time in between I waited for its triumphant return. I got it too, and sooner than I thought. It sure was triumphant. One of my favorite St. Stephen's is like that--10-29-1977. Really great jamming in The Other One and my very first World to Give! By the time NFA came the epic dance party was in full force. So much fun was had during that song! I love that song as a set closer. The crowd sure seemed to love the song too as they chanted the NFA as the crowd did in the later Dead years. Sure made me happy to hear! Definitely going to make this an annual event so long as they keep playing it. And I can't forget the Sing Me Back Home encore. Really nice job, Jeff. I love a real moving song like that one. What fitting delight it was! Enjoy your time off DSO, band, crew and all. You've given me some great times. I did pay you for them, but the times I've had and the memories attached just don't properly compare.

A note to our friends at the KOA:

The Super 8 has been super kind to us and we hope that continues.  I didn't stay there this year and I may stay in finer accommodations from here on out, but the Super 8 let's have a real good time.  I would recommend that many of you stay there.  The hotel seems to be more fine and more forgiving if it is filled with like-minded individuals, but please remember that people staying at the hotel and the hotel management have a line just like the KOA and if you cross it, they will seem just as unkind as the KOA.  I would bet the line at the KOA may have been a little tight given the amount of kids at camping at that large family park.  Let us remember to try to walk the line and accept that sometimes our behavior brings it down on ourselves.  I know that I have instigated encounters with the law.

On a lighter note, I will review night 1 later today.

The funny thing was the line was just being awake at night.  We were a chilled group but got harassed regardless.  the KoA is dead to us.  The 6k sq ft 8-bedroom Chalet castle awaits next year :)

Super 8 is approximately 3 miles from the venue.  It is a straight shot down one road but does include a 45 to 20 MPH cop trap centered around downtown black mountain.  The KOA is probably less than 2 miles away.

Rudedog,

I'm not saying you deserved the attention and thats a pretty silly rule that you can't stay up late, but I would bet their decision to hassle the "deadhead" element had many factors including but not limited to late night quiet fraternizing.  I stopped by the KOA.  It was huge and seemed to be very family and non serious camper friendly.  I saw someone get pizza delivery.  They probably don't want large groups of guys and gals with kaleidoscope eyes.

By the way, I think the mountain chalet is the way to go if you can get someone to organize and collect for it.
