Forum MVP Tea Posted May 27, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 I blew a tire during Music Never Stopped - it was seriously cookin! I proceeded to take it all the way down to the rim from Scarlet>Fire through the conclusion of Dear Prudence. Ow. I masked the pain for night #3 until BIODTL when I was forced to throttle it back. The travails of age - torn meniscus and almost no cartilage left in my right knee. I though I was doing PT by going to Jubilee?

Jubilee is Physical Therapy! 5 knee ops w/ 5% cartilage in both knees, broken double fusion and 4 herniated disc in my back, and the cuts on my feet crazy glued. DSO rocked this young mans bones back to a healthy state!

Forum MVP Mango Posted May 29, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 29, 2014 Sometime during day 2 I recall saying that I'd like a 77 for this night. I often feel that way....it's kind of a DSO staple. I didn't realize until the show was over that it was one of my favs, 11-6 Broome county. I guess I should have noticed given that setlist is fairly unique(especially with the breakdown in truckin), but I'm just really not focused on figuring out the show. Sometimes it just happens. Saturday at the Jubilee was glorious. I slept maybe 3 hours the previous night...sleeping in an rv isn't always all it's cracked up to be. Snoring happened...I didn't matter though. Mattson/Barraco Band was great. I was familiar with a bunch of the material and I think that definitely helped. The jams were great. On the advice of a sweet friend we(or perhaps I should say "I", as some were apprehensive about the choice) moved the rugs to the left side. It turned out to be a good decision, getting better each night. We also did a better job of sub rug rock removal, no more slants or surprise landmines. The show couldn't have started off better for me. I wandered up to the stage only moments before the first notes of Half Step; a definite favorite of mine and a fine way to start what would be high energy set. It took no time warm up and the whole first set was very joyous for all. Jubilant. Each song I felt to be a revelation of glory, every note more precious than the last. Leave behind your ideas of what you do and don't like- the potential is there in every moment for bliss. That's right, even TJed. I just love the slower drum beat on MAMU circa 77....makes the song much more danceable. Know what I mean? It's like they skip a beat every other beat. Maybe a drummer could better explain. The set so far was a real breathtaker so it was with great relief that they opened the first notes of FOTD, and a beautiful version it was. I love dancing to slow songs as I feel they leave more room for interpretation. Plus it's nice to slow down the frenzy here and there- not saying they should all be slow but when they are I welcome it. Minglewood was smokin...due to the lyrics of this song I never even want to make eye contact with any females , it just feels creepy. Don't want to send the wrong message to any boyfriends and we all know how things can be amplified/misinterpreted on the dance floor. It can definitely get the dance floor fired up though and to me that is a good thing. Duprees is always fun, a goofy story and a good dance. The Passenger was predicted ahead of time due to Jeff's slide sound....yeah, me and Torin know our shit. DSO always kills Music and this was no exception. Some folks thought that the first night's first set was just average- not tonight. NO prisoners. I must have walked up the hill 20 times throughout the weekend, made for some tight hamstrings. Nothing that couldn't be worked out every night with a little dancing. Going back to the campsite at set break was always nice, for water and maybe a change of shirt. A long walk but helpful in terms of getting my space together for the show. And we were lucky enough to have a friend who checked the time when setbreak started. Get back down there with a few minutes to spare and dance the night away. Second set was a dance-a-thon; classic 77 awesomeness. Samson ripped and Sunrise was a nice treat from Lisa before dipping into the big shit. The scarlet>fire did not dissapoint; one friend even said that he thought it was the best one he's ever seen. I'm not ready to make any such statements but I did think it was damn good and upon re-listening my feelings are confirmed. All told the scar>fire>lovin was 28 or so minutes of dancing bliss; by this point in the show people seemed to be in sync with each other and the music. Amazing eye contact all around(one of my favorite things when it's right...). At the peak moments over this past weekend I felt a true group presence, a feeling I can compare to nothing other than heaven on Earth. Everyone putting themselves out there and being received and encouraged with Love. Sure, some minor annoyances here and there but nothing that would taint the overall majesty of it all. The crest of this wave would ride through the rest of the night with many smiles shared all around. Such a blessing to be able to spend this much time with old friends and to have some new ones join the mix. Our DSO family is ever growing and we try to remain inclusive. Love is the name of game so if you aren't into that you might feel like a moth before a flame. My buddy would spend all night long trying to figure out what rare Brent song they played @ Jannus Landing earlier this year, only to discover that it was the song song they did for filler on this night. Oops! Naturally we all thought it would be difficult to top this show....what would the Band do to keep it special? Surely an Elective of some type, probably not <70s style as they did that last year. Much speculation would occur in the next day until the show, and many of the songs spoken of would be played. Props to Sunny and Mike for helping with the rugs this weekend. You guys rock. to be continued...
