9/12/81 ~ Greek Theatre

What a hellava good time! Spiritual inebriation: one receives more sensible joy and sweetness than one's heart can contain or desire.

Evidently, we were meant to go where the weather suits our clothes, sunny, cool and bright. This has been our weekend respite, a get away together to soak up the lovely weather between us. Our flight was cancelled Friday due to bad weather in NY. We didn't need to hear that show, I guess. . In my history, 9/11/81 was my dying grandmother's last birthday on this earth. That Set list reminds me of Looking for love..taking love.... What is love..... he's Gone....THEN, the other one, morning dew... I bet was exceptional ...brings the hearty promise of love. Our loving space stayed in Charlotte for the night.

Early jump on Saturday and what another gorgeous day, this time in Greenwich. Headed on down to the Capitol Theater later, feeling frisky and bright.

Good feeling prevailed. nice people. Capitol theater has an open space with great sound, not too packed. Great light show! bigger than the El Rey, friendlier dancing in general than Canyon Club ...unless hanging on the outskirts where you can really dance with the lovely people. XO

A little tickling of the ivories warming those fingers to set the tone after Sam Cuttler introduced the band and promoted his new book. Then, a strong Shakedown introduces all the goodness to come. Greatest story rocketed out of the gates and nice piano moments juxtaposed with the reverb of guitar melodies telling the story of getting what you need even when it is a left handed monkey wrench! The very first performance of GSET was at the Cap theatre on 2/18/71

During FOTD, I said to Joe, " Jail would be just fine with you." He agreed and done! We renewed our vows. Married twice. *Smiles*. El Paso was well executed but Bird Song was just really nice, long enough space for such a music packed night. Dry your eyes in the wind, the movement of thought, the flow of energy. The music stretched and possibility woven like a tapestry. Ebb and flow. Cassidy felt like putting a sports car through the paces, easy ride and nice changes. Really could boogie through TJ and way funky, cutting a rug with the Shag. (A real dance) I had my perfect dance partner, all I could ever ask for and dreamed of. But the space became strained as over-indulged head lacked flailing boundaries. .. Kicked in the loyal and faithful dog....sent us looking for another "home"....an easy space to be with consciousness and awareness. Ran into lovely couples from earlier, smiles and sharing. Then we drifted together in a easy beautiful LLR. ....more Drifting on back. Furthur... Chinacat afforded a free wheeling time. Though still hoping for the chance to spread my wings and create poetry of motion. IKYR wrapped up a wonderful first set.... Shining light. Could hear the train calling.......

Found! A great space to hang. Thomas the Greek behind us yells, "Jer-ree!" To smiles abounding.. He said it just felt right. I told him it sounded authentic, just like on the tapes. I could tell he was practiced. *smile* We agreed we like the music this band plays.

Scarlet Begonias. Fun twirling rhythm and combo stepping dance. And Fire!! My heart afire. The trumpeting happened.... Wohn, wohn, wohn.... Lovely beat.. Drums pervade and break it down and bang it out again and again. Hammered like steel, burnished like a fine gold margin on an inlay. CC Rider: no slide. First Estimated in a very long time! And it peeled away into Eyes after a twinkling of keyboard into the curls of a jam. then, eyes wide open. Some thumping Bass loud and proud. Cross hatched lights projected behind the band. Like woven fabric. Space to rest, prepare. drums! Gather around. And the record needle skipped, tight turn into hearty NFA-> wharf rat the spaciousness I love to express balletic movement. We danced hard for Round and Round and One More Sat Night. This show was all about endurance..... at this point... Endurance of spirit was feeding my dance.

Beautiful baby blue. Check out Joyce Carol Oates ," Where are you, going? Where have you been?" Reference to Baby Blue.

And we left with Good Lovin'!!! All evening long.

Our parting friend Thomas paid us the biggest compliment. He said we made his day yesterday. And he talked of our Southern Hospitality. Yes, people are nice but it was the sincere generosity of the Southern heart that was notable. Sunny, I guess.

My ramble done. Gone home to shine on until next time. And get my boots resoled.

Welmont was a nice warm up to the Cap shows. I checked into hotel and anxiously waited for friends to arrive too excited to relax. Got to the Cap and we were not disappointed! High energy music fun and dance! This is a grate venue even with the slightly slanted floors. I can't say more about the spirit at the Cap theater. Night 2 was an even higher energy setlist with stunning performance by the band that plays the best Dead music today!!! Pulled calf muscle had me on the sideline for most of second set but that did not take anything away from a spectacular night. A childhood friend saw me from the balcony and said to his date, (another childhood friend that I haven't seen in about 30 years) "look that's brian down there dancing". When I saw her at set break she said her reply was "that can't be brian he is crippled and can't move like that". Goes to show you don't ever know... The physical healing of this music is mentionable  but pales in comparison of the healing of the spirit. Thank You DSO!!!!

After being disappointed with the first night, I had a very strong feeling that the second night would be amazing, bananas, spectacular, outstanding, etc... I was not let down.

9/12 is my birthday so that got me pumped right off the bat. Shakedown came charging out the gate. Hit some really strong grooves together and everyone was playing in sync. GSET kept the energy up and the fun flowing. FOTD was sweet and soulful; a nice change of pace. The shocker of the night... I enjoyed El Paso... Just fine. Birdsong and Cassidy didn't get extremely jammed out. I though they were tight, concise. Very solid offering from the band. Tennessee Jed was fun. Things really got turned up with the LLR. Very passionate version. Absolutely loved it. China>Rider was the perfect way to close the set. First set was exceptionally solid. Never wavered and it had a very great flow.

Scarlet>Fire was unreal. Fire reached heights I've never known. Very very very hot. CC Rider was a great break up tune. Didn't overstay it's welcome but did its job. Estimated>Eyes kept us dancing. Jeff always rips Eyes... There was a real brief space segment that launched into a thunderous NFA. Wharf Rat was stunning. Beautiful harmonies. We were brought back down to earth with Around & Around and OMSN. Great raging numbers to end the set. Very happy OMSN was slotted at the end of the set and not the encore. Baby Blue is one of my favorite encores. I'll take as much Dylan as i can get. Good Lovin' was actually really really strong. The band did not let up off the throttle at all.

Absolutely smoked the show. Just one of those tight and synchronous night where everything clicked not only for the band but for the audience as well. Cap Theatre is a beautiful venue with a decent beer selection. Pricing was whatever. Security was a little overbearing but I definitely recommend people go there in the future. We had great dance space on the floor on the right hand side by Rob B.
