longdistancerunner
AHH I'm so upset I couldn't get a ticket tonight. I was there for the first DSO Who Was John in Covington last year I would have lost it too and probably pooped myself. I love DSO! My face is still melted from that Viola Lee encore last night. Forum MVP PoetryGirl Posted April 13, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 13, 2014 Beautiful second set out of space. Just lovely..... Makes me want to put flowers in my hair at the thought. This might just be what DSO does better than the GD..... Bringing all those incredible songs together in amazing ways. Wow. And I could watch Lisa lay it down on White Rabbit again and again. You must check out the Anerican Hustle soundtrack White a Rabbit in Arabic. It is pretty ethereal.

Forum MVP Mango Posted April 13, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 13, 2014 Amazing. I'm at a loss for words, I don't think it's even worth it to attempt to describe it. There was a whole lot of Love floating around that balcony last night. I feel supremely blessed to have been a part of this celebration and to get to do it again. And again, and again. Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted April 13, 2014 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 13, 2014 when it starts with eyes, you know the show is gonna be a great one!!! by this night I got a little weird about the cameras, as the guys had started filming me and following me and no matter where I went there were cameras right in my face…. it was ok Friday when I was too high on the 69 vibe to care, but I was a in a little more delicate place last night and it kind of got to me. really, i was just really super duper tired, so though the show was an incredibly great one, I had trouble getting my own space together the whole show. danced with lots of groups of people throughout the room, and was grateful we were up front the entire first set because it was completely epic! when they played mission second set I realized why it had been such a weird show for me and why it would continue to be. on the mission at a show is different than the pure bliss of other shows… really had to poke around last night and stay focused on my mission of love and light spreading just to keep it together and not give in to my urge to just sit down. while Gabe danced all through drums and space (he usually sits), we spent most of the show apart (like I said, I was on a personal mission helping some friends through things, not to mention needed some show time to myself to sort some things out) and I had trouble finding him so I actually WENT OUTSIDE for the first time ever during drums space. this was cool and felt right here in SF, but I heard I missed a REALLY REALLY good one. made it back for space and danced it out with santa cruz up front, enjoying the moments. til the morning comes was so amazing. i was happy to still be with the santa cruz team because they really exploded in joy with this tune coming through. finally saw Gabe back in front of Jeff where we had started the night during midnight moonlight and made it over to a group of light beings spinning and twirling through the space of our love and it was like coming home after a really long strange trip (I was sober!) and we ended the night watching our buddies thai girlfriend BECOME a hippie, just like she always wanted. that girl got DOWN! hehehe. after the show, late in the night/early in the morning, Gabe told me that he had seen almost 30 DSO shows now, but at the 69 show he realized last night that he finally GOT IT. the whole DSO alchemizing the music of the Dead into tangible magic that makes the world brighter thing. that this is what the Dead and their fans did then. that this is how we do it now. ya'll know. he says he feels closer to me now because before he LOVED DSO, but didn't quite understand why it was so essential to my being. now he does. he actually broke up with me and told me he just wants us to be free people that journey together until we both cleanse all obscurations and reach enlightenment. he said the whole concept of being "together" is insane, since we ARE ALL TOGETHER. I love that boy. I love this band. I love these moments. I love my life I love my life, I love it to death!
Bobbymcgee36
This was a really good show. I wish all DSO shows could take this approach. Recreations just have such a different feel. Time constraints, song/style constraints, Lisa contraints. It just feels un-organic. Phil has talked about trying to create the most space for the most magical oppurtunites possible. I wonder if the recreations are creating that space? This of course is all just my 2 cents from the audience; maybe the band is getting something out of the recreations that make it rewarding to them. I like how it was flexible Friday for Bobby and the show became a recreation "in the style of." I know that is not the first time that has been done and that is a much more interesting concept to me. Take the style of a certain era and played a show that could have happened in that time or even just "in the style of" a certain show if you still want a show to reference. Maybe that would be more appealing to the band then recreating a show that has already been played and recreated before as I know some shows have been recreated more than once. Anyhoo, feed your head!
