Forum MVP Rude Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Well probably 1k of the people will be their season ticket holders ecstatic that a traveling orchestra is coming through town. Should I wear my dark or light suit Muffie?
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 I'm going. We need to try to put people in places like this if we want the days of sardine dance space to end.
Forum MVP Mango Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Sweet. Where is wolf trap? I'm hoping, praying for the Black Mountain(hopefully two nights again) around my brithday, 19th of august. Have two weeks off from school then! pretty please
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Concur with bringing the dance. And I would opt for the light suit. Switch to dark after Labor Day.
topher44
WOW!... such a fantastically beautiful venue for DSO to be invited to play at. Really gorgeous place, and surrounded by forest. I only saw one show there (Pat metheny Group 1985), but I have never forgotten the amazing acoustics and ultra cool staff. Of course, staffing could be different now, but I'm sure the place itself hasn't. Alas, the 3rd of August is a Sunday, and I probably won't be able to take that Monday off from work, so it doesn't look like I'll be able to make this one. But, for those going, it should be a blast. May this be a sign that DSO's fanbase is now dictating larger places to play? Could be, we shall see. I, for one, love the smaller venues for sound, sightlines, etc. But, I guess crowding has been a real problem of late, so maybe, the slightly larger performance spaces will be our future dance halls. Cosmic Mike
I have never been to Wolf Trap but have heard good things from the right people. I know you can bring your own booze, which is pretty cool. It's in the suburbs of Virginia near Fairfax and Arlington; very easy to get to from DC. Count me in! Planning on doing the last week of summer tour this year to finish in Asheville. I assume they will finish at black mountain again hopefully. I'd love 3 nights to really make it a destination for anyone within an 8 hour drive!!!
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 I checked it out online. It is stunning. And the seats under the big top are removable, right?
Forum MVP Vortex Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Spoiler alert: I'm not confirming this right now, just saying the chances are good for two nights at outside venue right before not too far away... not Asheville. Makes for a good weekend.
Brian NJ
Just spoke with venue, Operated by National parks. Nat Park police is security "pretty strict but may be more lenient for deadheads" If you get orchestra seat can't go up to loge/balcony but can go on lawn. lawn on slant. big isle between lawn and orchestra -should sound good. You can bring Any food/drink into venue, no open fire. Free parking. National Park Police!!! friends need to beware! I forgot to ask bout bare feet! Have cabin booked for Aug 1,2 hope that is correct venue!

Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 on another note .... a sad note ... no free DSO show in Springfield, Ohio this summer..... I spoke to the Springfield Arts Council today and they stated "we love Dark Star but we could not work on a date for this summer due to a show they will have in Columbus this year... but we will do everything in our power to have them return in 2015" so hope the outdoor LC Pavillion in Columbus is in order ... Rude, we'll meet you in Asheville with or without DSO. Admittedly, the distraction of DSO from our running rupshot over the KOA would be more fun. And the poor misguided families that accidentally booked those same nights would enjoy 4 or 5 hours of peace each night.
Forum MVP Rude Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Lol I think our area was mostly dead heads. Well we will get together at jubilee b4 that and party regardless!!
Forum MVP acududeman Posted March 14, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 14, 2014 Wow......this has been a long time dream come true! This venue is 10 minutes from my house. Excellent choice for the band! Think of a considerably smaller version of Merriweather Post Pavillion. Caution to all.......this venue is condidered a federal park.......so getting busted for any illicits is a federal offense.......hence proceed with caution or consume before you walk in. On the lawn, people bring in picnics. Should be a blast.

So if the cabins you are referring to are under a park service vendors control you probably have the wrong place. I would doulble check: http://www.wolftrap.org/

I'm guessing Dino's vague reference implies that's where the 2 shows right before Wolf Trap are. I may be totally wrong but.......
