Forum MVP Tea Posted March 11, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 11, 2014 Interesting article in Relix about the history of these important recordings and where we are today. Worth a read - Eaton factors prominently for obvious reasons. http://www.relix.com/articles/detail/whats_become_of_the_bettys Enjoy
Forum MVP John A Posted March 11, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 11, 2014 Great article, Tea. I didn't know that Betty and Brent were a couple for a while! How pathetic that the Dead's office scoffed at Betty's plea that someone should go to the auction and deal with the situation...if, of course, that's how it actually went down. Forum MVP Rude Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 This was pretty much the New Yorker article with updates and a little more depth about the storage unit and input from Betty Jean. But since now there are more Betty boards unheard, that is great news. Too bad they will prob only be heard as they are released a couple a year if that. I'd love to see 30 new Betty boards show up on archive but that won't happen.

But instead, consider the breadth and quality of what is available today, vs the 90s, vs. the 80s, and especially vs. the 70s. It's mind boggling. You get everybody's tape collection in a few key strokes.

topher44
A really fun read, Thanks Tea! With all of Eaton's painstaking efforts, there are bound to be some pretty amazing results, and we will all benefit in the long run. Sure, it would be fantasy to see these Betty Boards make there way to Archive for free, but even if they are given back to the Dead, packaged, and sold as CDs or downloads, I bet they would make some money, and, hopefully, so would Betty. I am still mystified that the GD seemed uninterested in the tapes when approached about obtaining them many years ago. Seems to me a stupid decision, but there may have been more to the story... So, a big "Thank You" to Betty Cantor-Jackson, if you ever read this post, for making our lives more enriched with these splendid recordings, and also another grand "Thank You" to Rob Eaton for taking on this project! Forum MVP Rude Posted March 12, 2014 Forum MVP Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 Well for Rob this is like an archaeologist discovering a new tomb in Egypt. Grateful Dead is his life work and these are new Dead Sea Scrolls. He has to be ecstatic!!!
