Forum MVP GoingBackTo Where.... Posted December 9, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 9, 2013 Oh My F...... God. What a show. I am so in love with originals!!! Performance was brilliant, set list, kept us all in motion with smiles on our faces all night. For 930club, we had a good dance crowd of some kind individuals in our section, and the sound was awesome!!! Great energy!!! Well worth the drive back through the snow and ice!!!! First set, super fun, but second set..............WOW..........WOW.........The transitions nearly seamless with hints of what was coming, the timing, the mix up-----it gets no better!!!!! They were on fire!!! 930 really is tight for dance, but we made it happen to these glorious sounds!!!!!! Security was friendly, and we were able to eventually move on the talkers and standers!!! My words would give no justice to the Stephen Help/slip-Stephen-Slip---Franklins!!!! I can only say that I am very lucky to have got to witness, feel and dance to that!!! Very Very Lucky!!! However, it was the White Rabbit that got me feeling so psychedelic in my dance. That was a wonderful treat to my virgin ears of that song by DSO, and it is still playing in my head. Thanks DSO for a great 3 nights!!!! NYE soon......love this stuff!!!!!!
JacksonPollockDancer
Tea buddy! your powers are waning! I think you missed box of rain before touch of grey! better overall than I could have pieced together last night though. First show with Skip as a permanent addition. He started dropping bombs fast and hard in china>rider and now let up. I mean REALLY droppin bombs. wowie zowie. During west LA I just leaned against a wall and received a free back massage! Highlights of the first set: that china>rider with a great transition full of skip bombs, EASY WIND with Lisa up there blowin sound, and box>touch>reuben to end! twas fun! Second set was glorious. The opening notes of st stephen were met with roars of joy, and dancing quickly resumed everybody all rested up from set break. Help>slip>stephen was the highlight of my night. Help all slinky and smooth and fun, but SLIP, oh SLIP, felt like it really cover some great. They band worked in tight(yet loose!) formation to tie me into tight little knots, becoming denser and denser until they finally slipped out, just to start over again going longer, harder, and WEIRDER each time. I really lost myself here and just after I thought were were just gonna keep going on all night long, they transition back into st stephen! Like what?! place went fucking nuts, I went fuckin nuts, pure bliss. The Franklin's to follow was the highlight of my friend's know who had virtually know familiarity with the dead. On the way I had asked so do you know the names of any dead songs at all, she said "uhh... Athena!" LOL. She had fun though, how could you not? I did take a break for drums/space, I was dying from dancing so hard. Remained seated as they began the wheel but by the second spin round I realised it was time to try harder, go further, and cover some more ground with the dance crew. Miracle was a pretty standard dance romp, with skip throwing out big sounds. Death don't. wow. powerful. holyfucksticks? all that. Jeff spot on with emotive vocals and guitarwork. I had been waiting for this one since they started playing it. And it came on the day I found my grandmother with in declining health for a while now might be coming down with the flu. let's just say I danced out alot during this. OMSN, run rudolph. More standard dance romps, by now A space had opened up on the balcony right over the edge of the stage and crowd, and I snatched that up and get a new persective to rage out the night. Rob Kortitz glimpsed me raging during one of these and I shot him a big smile and he grinned, just trying to throw some energy back atcha guys and a girl. White rabbit I feel has been cut and polished into a gleaming gem. Longer and harder than the video I watched a while ago, and holy Lisa. And then I knew I was meeting a few forum folks, but I really met so many more people too we had such a great crew in the top right. Everybody was awesome and I hope to see them all down the line. maningreen
Show 100 for me. A real acid test... Show startd off with Band thanking the crew esp. Cotter for all they do. St. Stephen, Slipknot was no ordinary sandwich. It was a double decker with all the fixins!!! Seamless, everyone taking turns on lead, bombs were falling and we all had one hell of a good time on that. Never experienced anything like it really. I never thought I would say this but the crowd was a lot of fun and very respectful of one another. Durring Death Don't at one point you could hear a pin drop then Jeff blew the roof off the place. I think the weather kept away the amature frat boys for the most part. At one point had to get away from people no there for the show and long story short ended up front and center really enjoyed the stage sound. Run Rudolf was a bit awkward placement aftet what we had just experienced but Lisa and RobB had fun with it and made it fun. WHITE RABBIT was the long version and brought us all back to where we had left off. Nice to have woken up to snow however making the trip back to SOFLA was no picnic.. Ended up having to pull off on the way to airport at the back entrance of CIA Headquarters to change a flat tire. Flight delays but DSO made my "trip" to see family and friends in the DC area priceless... xo all
Terrapin
Easy Wind was my highlight. Brought two friends from south jersey who have just discoverd the dead and they had a blast. My wife came along, she usually lets me go out with the boys but she had a blast too. Jeff Mattson tears the joint up. I know it might be blaphemy but I enjoy him more than John. I know I shouldn't have said that. Anyway awesome show.
Forum MVP Tea Posted December 10, 2013 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 10, 2013 So crushingly busy and with a cold to boot. So...... Very nice to put finally put some faces with names at the 930 - Good Times! Let me say that my 930 bashing was a little overblown based on my actual experience this time around. Not nearly as many talkers as previous years and those that tried to set up shop and talk in our area found that it wasn’t very conducive for conversation. We had staked a claim to some valuable real estate and deterred squatters from setting up shop there for very long. They were groups who took one look and the dancey-sweaty-blissy-smelly-sweat-fest goin on and decided there were better places to blather. Fine by us! Most folks we came across were kind and considerate and security was no problem save for a couple minor misunderstandings. LOVED this show! China Cat just launched out of the dying notes of LTGTR and it was off to the races! They did an old-school China Cat transition to Rider that was a nice surprise and tighter than ever. A Raunchy, nasty Mingleweed...er...wood! Then came one of the 1st set highlights...EASY WIND! A bluesy, funky take by RB that just strutted it's stuff and then got serious. Soaring leads by Jeff with Eaton there stride-for-stride all wrapped up with sick keys, driving rythyms, and BOMBS! The funky/bluesy take continued with a fine West LA and was capped off by the strongest Bass of the weekend. Carving, crushing, thumping, stomping. Sonic Assault. We got our psycho-country itch scrathed pretty well and I was ready for an IV at it's conclusion. Bittersweet Box for me. I would bore you with the personal details other than to say that I loved to hear Skip get out there and shine! BIG Smiles! A toght Touch crested in all the places it should and then gave way to the loudest ovation of the night: Rueben & Cherise! Brilliant leads by Jeff and then everyone fell in together and freaking crushed it! Set-break, Exausted - out into the pouring rain but seemingly not a drop on me So......St. Stephen > Slipknot > St. Stephen > Slipknot > Franklins. Eeeeeeek! As awesomely powerful as the St. Stephen was, the Slipknot was the thing here. Snaking, weaving, expanding, jumping, falling, contracting, and finally culminating in a collective bomb-drop right before bringing it home to welcome Franklins! I've seen my fair share of seemingly trancedent DSO moments and this passgae made the cut by a longshot. So freaking unbelievable! Franklins was joy personified! My favorite moments with DSO is when they take they're good sweet time with a song/passage. Everybody wanted a turn on Franklins and each got their chance to spread their wings before it morphed into a calypso-themed jam (Jamacia, mon?) and then yielded to the drummers. Tried to keep up with them for a few minutes but failed. WATER....... Sweet melodies formed out of space and I began to hear tones suggesting UJB would be the the thing....nope....a quickish left turn into the Wheel. The crowd was turning and showd no signs of slowing down. I'm not usually a huge 'Miracle Guy' but I was reprogrammed 2nite! Bombs, fans, just fucking relentless. I was almost sure Eaton was going to blow a vocal chord there at the end. Gutteral-yelling at the climax but also with excellent tone! How the hell did he do that? A Death Don't then surfaced out of the debris of Miracle. Hauntingly-sorrowful stuff here boys and girls. It was time to grieve and at the same time be given an undercurrent of happiness that DSO was giving us the vehicle to express the frailities of life. At one point everything just stopped.....then.......BAM! Bombs, fanning, red-lining, chaos, expertly melted into a 180 degree towards OMSN. Again, not a 'OMSN Guy.' Reprogramming successful. Damn near lifted the roof off the joint. DAMN. The band was thankful for those trooping out in the elements and also was gratified by some youngings right up near the rail with their folks. I think there was as much ovation from the band as ovation TO the band. A sweet moment indeed Run, Run, Rudolph was on tap. I loved the pace but was worried that it was not going burn for as long as I liked and then it would be over. This one took a little more time and they were having an absolute blast with it. BIG SMILES all over that stage! Then came another highlight.....White Rabbitt! Words cannot express so I should probably not try. It really was unbelievable - they really took their time before this one got brought home in stunning fashion !!!!! What a night.....what a weekend! Good folks, fun times, music played at the pinnacle! I'll be back:

But I am older and can't dance and really don't want to but I guarantee I am getting just as much out of the music than someone dancing their ass off and I am taking up less space especially in oversold places. I tend to go outside like Mishawaka State bridge etc so there is more room. If your not dancing you can still have a great time. Now talkers they suck! Forum MVP GoingBackTo Where.... Posted December 10, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted December 10, 2013 No disrespect above bro!!! Jiga420.....I do not always explain myself well, especially on the boards. I can tell very well when someone is enjoying the music, or when they are on their cell phones during wharf rat, and althea looking at pictures from the past. Or when a couple just find a place to park it, and get frisky all night, or just chat it up!!! My point----I paint broad brushes sometimes---often-----for that I apologize!!!! You guys on the floor, I have the utmost respect!!! I can not do it. I personally would get socially anxious, feel closed in, and would not get to fuze my energy with the band. That is me, and I am glad not everyone is like me:}!!!! The world is a much better place because of difference. However, if you saw a bunch of people really jamming to these blissful sounds----- would you move in and stop them by standing right in the middle of an isle? And to be honest, there is so much more space when everyone around you is dancing!!! We all share space, moving back and forth to rhythm and wonder:}!!!! I really see many of us as excited electrons in the cloud. We all share the same space, but since we are all moving, the chance of bumping is reduced. Where as static objects, you have to work around them. Believe me, it wont be too soon before I am a sitter. Knees only last so long, but just like I treat servers in restaurants and security at the door-----with respect---as I too been in their shoes.....When I am unable to move like I so love to do!!! I will not impose my space on others who like and can get down and boogey:}!!!!! I really enjoy watching dancers, its part of the magic for me:}!!!! Again, peace brother, I mean no disrespect!!!!!!! jiga420
I leave my cell in the car. I like watching dancers also. Makes me happy to see them happy. I understand about the dancers moving together. But I stopped going to indoor shows cause I seem to be around the person flinging their dreads in my face or a really big dude wearing a backpack clearing out lots of room and I just keep backing up till I have no more room. I have to be close so the music is loud. It's fine I have seen many shows so going outside and seeing less is ok. Thanks for the clarity and hope to see you at a show. Outside of course:) Enjoy! JacksonPollockDancer
Jiga thank you for the reminder that my way aint the "right" way. I personally, feel more connected to the music when I bounce and bob and move, but it's not like I get nothing from it when I don't. Even though sometimes when I don't, I just have to imagine myself with space to dance, like in the car lol. I think it is important to have respect for anybody enjoying the show, which is why I try not to dance up on and scare people out of the way who aren't dancing, but try to drift and try to find an appropriate space for my shenanigans. I mean even at the 930 I had space enough to move, though dancing in the aisle was still more of a plant my feet and close my eyes ordeal. Dewey this summer where I first met sun was one of the coolest spaces I've seen, where we had this entire side space shared between the main crowd and one of 3 bars to jump and spin and prance and twirl about eachother, but just not every place has that and it's important to not romp over and push out the people who enjoy the music in a different way than onesself.
