MY UNCLE

If Ican get the day off i'll jump in the car and drive about 4-5 hours max to catch a DSO show for the night. If I can string a few shows together even better. I was wondering how far you guys have ever gone to see a show, or how far would ya go?

the most i've done in a drive there- drive back 1 nighter is Pittsburgh from Philly area about 4h20min I think.

Done a handful of 3+ to northern Jersey and brooklyn.

usually within 2.5 hrs is a must do if my funds are in order.

Here comes the oldheads to blow my 4 hours 20 mins to pieces.

Europe for JiTD. Several times. But I have to admit I didn't drive.

Some have done Alaska, and I've flown cross country too many times to count. Some of my happiest memories are multi-state road trips. There were a lot, and I thank everyone who shared along the way. The entire '07 west coast tour was quite a few miles, thankfully in a rented car and with a variety of interesting companions.

The champ is probably Christophe going to Japan, and the crew from there that came over here some few years ago. Teacher Matt and the Honda Civic rank up there too. Then there's Joseph the road warrior.

Farthest driven: 8 hours. Flew to Colorado to catch 3 day run, and I'm looking to do that again come spring west coast tour. Now that I am out of school and have a job, I would definitely go abroad to catch some DSO shows. I know DSO is doing Jamaica, but in that case you are paying for much more than just the shows. I would rather tour Europe or Japan and pay for tickets and lodging separately. I once stayed at an all inclusive beach resort and I'm not necessarily looking to do that again, just not my kind of vacation.

I hadn't seen DSO until summer 2011, and honestly didn't start seeing them seriously until fall of 2012. So for it only being about a years worth of time seeing this band, I have many journies ahead of me.

Joseph is the old guy with a oxygen tank and oatmeal raisin cookies. Nice dude, indeed.

Edit: I want to add that because I am so young and never got to see the dead, I have a great respect for catching shows while I can. My time spent at shows are some of the fondest memories of my life. Hearing stories from well-traveled folks, like Chuck, who were there for it all, inspires me to build my own storybook.

Those were all dso run's i suppose Ron? Cool.

I hope I can get my shit together to make a decent size run like that sometime not too far down the line o life.

4 hours 20 min thinking on it again was actually pretty big for a one night stand, close like 450 miles round trip for 1 show.

But I also did some paperwork today so they let me  board a jet plane to jamaica. 3 months.

Didnt see a show until 2011. Dont know why or how I was left in the dark. But since then, inside of a 3-4 hour drive i think I have 100% perfect attendance. Both jubilees. Cant justify staying home. Im hooked and have been since i first laid ears on this wonderful band. One day I'd like to do a colorodo run or west coast or new years. But miracles need to happen to make those dreams come true.

I just started touring in summer 95. Were doing Pittsburg then the 2 deer creek shows(screw u gatecrashers) b4 going home then to Chicago a few days later, but we planned to hit 3 of the 6 New York shows on fall tour, but Jerry passed b4 that. I'm with on making sure u see DSO while you can b/c you never know what life holds in store.

well since you asked...

I once drove from the coast of Northern California to Denver, overnight. Took about 24 hours though we probably didn't take the fastest route....looked most direct on map(not always a good thing). Made it a few songs into first set. Actually would have been on time had it not been for ticket line outside(actually, we were super worried it was going to sell out!). There was also a show the next day so it was worth it.

that however is not my longest trek for a show.

Jubilee 2012...drove straight from Reno, NV, to Hotel by Jubilee. Went to jubilee following morning. Does that count?

BUT>....

....2009....not long after the Colorado adventure....ex-gf and I drove across the country, from cali to pittsburgh, to catch a few shows before bailing on our west coast adventure and returning home.

ok done bragging. I'm retired from the long drives now, I've done way too many, some for shows some not. I'll tell ya though, all that time in the car gives you a serious chance for reflection. anymore i'm not found of driving more than 3.5-4 hours. However, I'd rather travel 4 hours out in the open and than 2 hours in traffic.

Did you take U.S. 50 on your trek from Northern California to Colorado? Back in December 88' some buddies and I drove from Summit County Colorado to the Dead New Years shows in Oakland overnight and took that route out. Saw an article in a newspaper a couple months later calling it the loneliest stretch of highway in the country and I believe it. Had to drive through a herd of sheep in the middle of the highway. Cowboy told us to drive on through, they would get out of the way.

During one of my best friends divorce proceedings his spouse's lawyer brings the following into testimony: "He gets on jets to see a cover band" Case closed. See ya.

The transcript is available upon request at the courthouse in Nantucket.

DSO - about 420 miles.

The Q - Flew about 1,500 miles (NM to Seattle)

Flew 4,000 miles for a vacation that included shows

with the David Nelson Band. Since they never play

around here and there were 400$ tickets to Maui,

seemed like if I was gonna pay 100$ for a room,

better there than NoCal. Totally worth it. JB

I went to Jamaica, but of course, I flew.  I feel the thread creator is more interested in drive time distances and times. Man, there are so many different memorable drives and other qualifications to consider.  I don't want to bore everyone with a most recent 10 year autobiography of my life but lets name a few drives and maybe go back a look over tours and add up the distance travelled on that tour.  I may do that later.

Longest consecutive drive: Washington DC to San Francisco, Ca. 2817 miles 40 hours.  This drive included a four man (3 boys/ 1 girl) team including a buddy who you used to post around here.  Things got weird.  We drove out from DC following me turning in my final papers for my English class.  We we're headed out for the Phil and Friends closing of the Warfield run.

Longest solo drive: I was coming home from the West Coast.  I woke up West of Cheyenne and drove 28 hours straight back to DC.  I had to sit for a final for my final credits to graduate from Georgetown.  Cheyenne to DC is 1646. So I'd say roughly 1700 miles. Sad thing is I had to go take the final before I could sleep.  I was up for roughly 36 hours with out any aids.

Longest for one show: Philadelphia to Chicago in car.  I took the train ride home. 12 hour drive, 18 hours bus.  750 miles each way. DSO before they played at Martyr's most recently.  I could not attend do to prior obligations. B)

Longest drive for two shows (solo) : I drove out from DC for the Milwaukee Madison shows in 2008 or 2009.  DC to Milwaukee 12 hours 790 miles.

We did a big trip out from Philly area to Colorado for the shows before they headed up to Alaska.  Both drives straight out and straight back.

I may look up tour details shortly.  I know I did at least one full tour and another almost full east coast Summer tours in 2008 and 2009 and another almost full tour in 2012.

So many other trips and stories.  I could really ramble on this forever, but who's got the time and who really wants to hear.  See ya down the line.  New Year's next.  I will fly.  The days of long drives are not forgotten and are still missed.  I'm still very much so down for the road trip.  Although a friend once stole a line from a song and told me, "the highway is for gamblers."
