Forum MVP John A Posted October 2, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 2, 2013 I'm up for some '74 Jerry Band. I sat out Volume 2 (1990 Greek) as I have an excellent audience tape and the show, as '90 JGB goes, wasn't top notch. But two nights of '74 Legion of Mary is a no-brainer: http://jerrygarcia.shop.musictoday.com/Product.aspx?cp=640_62123&pc=JYCD51

Forum MVP John A Posted October 25, 2013 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 This is indeed quite good. Sound quality is as high as could be imagined - they are Betty Boards, as Betty did the recording. A new standard for '74 JGB. It's amazing how unique this sound is, even given Garcia's wide range during his career. His playing is so laid back and tasteful as he gives Merl and Fierro plenty of space. The 20+ minute Wondering Why is delightfully spacy. The only truly incredible hint of Garcia's power is the flurry at the close of the 2nd Dixie Down (there are two versions on the 3 CDs, one from each show). Suffice it say that Merl's vocals on the few tunes he sings are not a high point.
