it was sooooo good you guys! i have been wanting to post but we had to drive back straight from the show (bout 14 hours) and I just woke up from some great sleep to find out I am sick as heck (thanks, passenger, lmao!) so can't even go to work today like i drove back so quickly to do. oh WELL!

the cold rain was super appropriate as the entire run was hounded by it. i did a lil dance for Mango ;) wish you had all been here, this was such a super fun night and the song selection was only one of the great parts, it was HOW THEY PLAYED IT and WHO WAS SINGING that was sooooo cool!

Peggy-O was particularly beautiful and the passenger was searing.  skip sang tom thumb (oh lil bunny I miss you!) and did a stellar job.  i LOVE this guy's voice and stage presence, it is exactly what DSO needs!

we giggled at the frozen logger from eaton while everyone got situated before dire wolf and I must say that Rob Eaton was in absolute other worldly form on this night and he was laying down textures that I didn't even know could feel so good! I actually had trouble not just watching Eaton all night cause he was so crucially on point and fascinating.... which is diff from how I usually get caught up starring at Jeff and Rob B.  Seriously, eaton was the star this night and it was baaaaaaad ass!!!!!!!!!!

the dire world was bouncy but that masterpiece acutally made gabe start appreciating the song cause DSO has developed it so well.  Eaton said "it better be fucking different" or some during the chorus which was GREAT and hilarious!

the all over now was REALLY diff sounding than usual but still as fun as it always is.  the tangled up in blue was a classic perfectly executed DSO madhouse of energy and it closed the set like no other song could.  damn, DSO, you really stole my face in missoula!

great town, great venue (pushiest staff of the run but still kind) everyone was right about missoula.  the theatre was actually super empty compared to the other 2 nights of the run and we had a lot of space to just dance as needed in the front.

gabe broke his toe on the 70s metal coleman cooler on sat morning so he couldn't dance much that night, or shouldn't have, but he made it through til space before he had to sit, which was impressive and shows what a great show it was that he just HAD TO DANCE!

i had been praying for a GSET and we got it and it was so impressive! Skip sang the gimme some lovin for the most part with rob b backing him up. super cool!

crazy fingers was crazy cool and i only wish i had a better vocabulary through my stuffy, sick, tired brain to do this show justice, much less this particular song which really struck deeper chords with us than it ever had before.

women smarter was fun and it was the first time I though iko was coming instead in AGES and showed me its been too long since I did this whole touring thing and made me resolve to get back truckin on ASAP.

driving east instead of west after this show was the hardest thing I've done in a long time and its good i wasn't driving or we might not have come home and being sick and him with a broken toe, its best we just came home!

terrapin, as I have been saying, THAT'S how you play terrapin! sooooooo spectacular and lovely!!!  danced through mostly all of drumz and space cause i still had so much energy and it sounded sooooo good!  the fantasy jude got the whole crowd going and they had to start the na na na na's cause the band held out and they couldn't wait and Lisa just smiled at us and encouraged it and it was magical!

throwin stones was particularly sexy and powerful and I want to live in this moment a while.  really spot on.

black peter was quick and joyful instead of slow and mournful and it celebrated that we will all have a few friends we love at hand in the end.  so soaring and rich!!!  not poor as me at all!!!

then to close out with golden road, holy crap, does it get any better? thought that balcony was gonna fall into the crowd people were dancing, stomping, and jumping so hard!!! so cool!

they were gonna play shakedown bf golden rd and encore with golden rd but they dropped the shakedown and went to golden rd instead and when I saw this on the set list from them i was so happy they closed out officially with ripple.  awwww it was so great and everyone sang and Jerry was with us.

great run, wish we were gonna be there tonight, but I know wild horses can't keep me away from spring west coast.  i need a proper tour, i am forgetting the face of my 'father' without it.  its almost time!!!!

kiss kiss to everyone, i miss you all already!

Nice Dylan selections and Dear Mr. Fantasy out of space - what's not to love?

I would love a more unusual/rare ballad slot in an elective show.  Yeah, that's some picky shit talking, and I understand that Black Peter is a powerful and great song, but hey - you did ask!  :P

Did I hear there was a Fantasy---Jude?    or just Fantasy.  Being selfish I hope it was just Fantasy.  I have been waiting for a Fantasy Jude since the early 90's, maybe 89.     I forget, but sounds like the Band is in good Form!!!

Love hearing it, and love the long Reviews SV.    Needless to say, this shit gets me off:}!!!!   I am sure I am not the only one!!!

Peace, safe travels, and a broken toe sucks.   That would seriously hamper my spins:{

yeah, John A, I'm a ballad girl myself so I always hope for the comes a freakin time or stella (esp since I took advice from this forum and started skipping the stella's in the shows i listen too- when you play it only in special moments it transcends with diamond force. let it play on the 73 show were were listening to in the overnight drive and it was almost morning and the sky was still just deepest blue and OHHHHHH stella!) or black muddy river or damn since its an original they can do a MISSION there, but, like you, I'm not trying to be picky, and what they pick (being DSO) rarely falls flat or bottoms out- they typically pull it the heck OFF! like, your face and my face and that chics face and that dudes face and..........

and sun, I think they wanted just a dear mr fantasy, however, as I said, the crowd just started NA NA NA NAing and Hey Judeing at the top of their lungs and the band couldn't really deny them that..... DSO rarely denies us of anything other than perhaps our logical, reasoning minds while they are playing.  but they kept it short just to satisfy our needs and just did the na na na naing with us a few times........

oh yeah, speaking of cool ways the band works with the crowd SO WELL, the night before, in Bozeman, when they closed with NFA Rob B held his hands up to do the clap to get everyone (not just the few) into it and when the crowd caught on it started going REALLY FAST and he tried to keep us slow but he and THE WHOLE BAND just went a lil faster as they faded the music out so we were all NOT FADING as one..... super cool and just one of the gazillion reasons this is simply the only band that could have brought me to this music.

consistent, every night better than the last, ya'll on the west coast have a hard driving train of rainbow love high stepping their hearts out right into yours and into your towns and I am a lil jealous but instead of being jealous have decided to just be grateful that we get to bookend it (thanks for the term, Vegas, we used it about a MILLION times on this run and have vowed to popularize it in spunion lore) and that as we left, all of YOU out west are gonna pick it up and keep this mother rolling.

thank you thank you thank you and I am so happy boulder shows are coming up so soon and we made it through the out of colorado run and it was one of the best runs anyone could ask for musically, vibely, and certainly gratefully.

the new ZIP UP HOODIES are really cool, Winky, thanks for having them! (cause we've been a beggin'!) gonna have to save up to get one when they come back through in a few weeks......

Right on Steph,,,I love reading these words and feeling the vibe of where you are coming from on this. Hugely ready out here in the NW for the TRAIN to roll through...stepping on in Seattle for 4 and then try to let go to send them south rollin' down the track for others to pick up and carry it on.

Thanks so much for the blessing and helping to keep the rainbow extra colorful and the music CRANKING....we all need it!

So glad Montana got a DSO dose!

:)

I saw Scotty do the Hey Jude>Fantasy>Jude Finale a few times before he went up to play with Jerry in the big sky, and have seen Barraco play it twice... Always a favorite of mine, wish he'd do it more often for the electives

Love this!  Lucky enough to catch Brent's only Hey Jude rendition (I think) at Copps in March of 1990.  That Spring Tour was the best I ever saw the GD play.  Hands down.

In fact, a recreation of Copps 90 would not suck.  Maybe Barraco could sing Easy to Love You :)

Great kick-off to the tour!  The Pacific NW is next up for this leg.....They are gonna get some straight FIRE!  Speaking of Fire....I know they did a 78 already, but heres to a recreation of {{{4.24.1978}}} before the end of the fall tour!

I'm in agreement on Brent songs. Really enjoy Blow Away, Hey Pockey Way, Dear Mr. Fantasy; they have great energy that can't be denied. Just a Little Light and Maybe You Know are pretty good too. The slow songs are meant for Jerry in my eyes. I guess I Will Take You Home is a decent tune, but I think I like the context to the song more than the song itself.

The problem that Take You Home couldn't overcome was its slot in the show.  The moments as space is winding into whatever will emerge from it are seriously hallowed.  Those opening piano notes were like letting the air out of the beach ball on a gorgeous beach day, just as everyone is frolicking about.

And don't get me started on the Scarlet->Take You Home I saw in Alpine. :angry:

No doubt about it.  This exact thing befell me at one of the better shows I saw in the fall of 1989 (10/20/89):

Set 1

Touch Of Grey

Greatest Story Ever Told

Candyman

Picasso Moon

Just A Little Light

Tennessee Jed

Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again

Stagger Lee

The Promised Land

California Earthquake* (first time played)

Set 2

Hey Pocky Way

Scarlet Begonias ->

Fire On The Mountain

Truckin' ->

The Other One Jam ->

Drums ->

Space ->

I Will Take You Home ->

The Other One ->

Wharf Rat

Sugar Magnolia

Encore

Brokedown Palace

The whole show was awesome - Fall of 89 was a very good time for the GD.  Anyway, the 2nd set was totally ripping and when they got into Truckin and then into a full/actual Other One Jam it was totally spellbinding.  D/S was a mindfuck and we all just knew they were going to finally pick up the Other One and blow it out.  Instead they go with IWTYH, before moving into the Other One ~ It just didn't fit.  Trying not to be too picky here but that show was freaking cranking and they lost a good chunk of mojo out of space and had to work a bit to get it back.  Just sayin.

I love me some brent tho.  BTW > Take a listen the Hey Pockey Way from this show.  Totally nuts! :)  This show SLIGHTLY eased the pain of getting shut of both Hamptons:

10/19 was indded the goods!  While the 1st set was strong (blow away, cumby, masterpiece are the standouts), the 2nd set was a total monster!  That Fantasy alone was worth the price of admission!
