Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted September 28, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted September 28, 2013 Now THAT was a SHOW! koritz only show set 1 truckin sugaree el paso loser playin BEW BIODTL brokedown jack straw TN jed mexicali RR blues casey jones set 2 cryptical>drums>other one>uncle>other one>cryptical deal sug mags (no ssdd) ramble on rose NFA>gdtrfb>NFA encore: OMSN filler: Easy wind with Lisa BLOWIN that there harp and Dino drumming. OK. All I could say or think this WHOLE show was THIS is how you play GD!!!! Shows like this make me think about my furthur friends and go deep into the psyche that allows so many of us to go have the best show ever at DSO on a reg basis while so many others won't even show up. I love our DSO. Can anyone say SKIP BOMBS loud enough to do the man justice? Ever since that benefit show Mango and I were touting Skip's skill and energy but to see him play with the whole big ol band was just a treat that's hard to show one's true appreciation for. Skip is such a perfect fit for this band, what do we need to do to make him stay full time?!?!?! This venue was super tiny and super cool. The staff was really kind and the locals were a LOT of fun! (Until they started brawling in the street after the show, though dude just got a bloody nose it was still a lil too intense for my liking- but we found out that brawlin is just what the folks do here at night in Jack Hole so it wasn't "us" lol) We drove into Bozeman after the show (14 hour day in the car with a 4 hour show break in the middle was MIGHTY swell!) and I am sitting here in a Motel 6 suite (who knew they had SUITES?!?!) that we only had to pay for one night on though we got here at 4:20am and are staying til tomorrow morning. From this treatment imma go out on a limb and say the ppl here in Bozeman are amazing and kind so we really look forward to tonight. Back to the show. 350 limit venue was packed with at LEAST 500 ppl and you could feel it. Somehow we managed to carve out our dance space and keep it with little incidence and tons of fun. TRUCKIN show opener!?!?! Heck yeah!! Whole band just jumped right in and they were glowing with electric light of rested souls ready to THROW IT DOWN! Sweet sugaree and Jeff is just soooooo sweet and amazing to hear! How lucky are we to hear this guy play his guitar in this heavenly choir!?! I turned to Gabe and told him the lil joke about Eaton and El Paso and the lyrics and in THAT moment we got our lil fuck up and I screamed so hard in joy. Nothing should be perfect, it is the mistakes that MAKE IT PERFECT, so thanks for being reliably Bobby-like, Eaton!!!!! Loser was a nice swirling break from the madness of joy that had been the first 3 songs and I could tell we were getting one of those 10+ songs first sets and I settled into the groove with NO chance of losing this time. Playin we were and the BEW got my headspace super filled with rainbows and thoughts of times gone by when all we had to say was "come to me!!!" About here I realized that Gabe is my fave person to dance with at a show EVER and that him wiggling all cute and sensually really keeps both drunk girls and bros alike away because he's just too adorable! I picked a GOOD ONE! BIODTL prolly had the 29 beats for the date but I only counted to 23-25 at the time, knowing I had prolly missed a few. Brokedown centered in first set was spectacular and it was nice to get that sweet early 70s style on it with a fast pace and country groove. Since JK'l last Brokedown (Bobby sings in now after all) with DSO this song ALWAYS packs a punch, and being an hour from Driggs which is the show after which our worlds all changed back in 2009, it was really meaningful to once again plant that weeping willow where it will grow Grow GROW and remember that THIS is the waterside where I lay my head- front row of DSO! Thanks for creating DSO, Johnny K, I don't know what we'd do without it. Thanks to all the others for the years of tireless devotion and ability to overcome ANY tragedy or change as the ocean handles the sand. jack straw was zippy and swinging and I had JUST been talking about how TN Jed is such a great song that I didn't always have the proper appreciation for and this one justified my newer found belief that it is a super groovy "break" song to dane to cause it lets you breathe and get down in a TN jig instead of dancing like one's life depends on it. Mexicali had everyone giggling and big RR blues had us really grooving!!! Casey Jones told me the set was over and I wasn't gonna keep watching the speed cause this was just TOO FUN! At set break we had the usual fun conversations telling ppl this "probably" wasn't 74 OR 77, but one guy called the OMSN coming at the end which was great cause somehow I really needed it! Maybe knowing we'd be driving 5 hours after the show had some motivating factor in me shaking my ass super hard and spinning like there was no tomorrow the whole 2nd set. I mean, come on, they walk out and just lay the cryptical envelopment around us only to drum our faces out (GOOOOOOOO KORITZ!!!!) just to send us into the Jackson HOLE that is Uncle and I think a lot of people in the crowd got taught a lil too well by their "honest" uncles. SICK other one, totally spectacular (once again my mind said, THAT'S how you play truckin, THAT's how you play mother fucking cryptical other one, dammit! SERIOUSLY!) Haha deal sug mags in the center of 2nd set and what a fine place to be! I just realized that sug mags is a dakini song so it really got me off. Straight to ramble on rose and it WAS 100 verses in rag time and it NEVER ends!!! Cause you KNOW our love don't fade away- what a tasty sandwich to end with, good ol' NFA>GDTRFB>NFA for the senses, so delicious! The place was completely REELED and ROCKIN and when Lisa came out and instead of singing for filler just tore that harmonica UP while Rob B finally got to sing for the night (Skip's harmonies are KICK ASS, I want more Skip singing!) and I was in complete bliss as I had been wanting Gabe to get a good ol DSO easy wind since they (I think anyway) have developed it far past what the Dead ever did with it and they really make me love this song. Great night, great show, THIS is what this music is about. All that other crap is just money and ego. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. They're NOT just the best at what they do, they REALLY ARE THE ONLY ONES that do what they do, and I thank them all kindly from the depths of my being for this gift of music, sweeeeet music! And we get to DO IT AGAIN TONITE!!!!!!!!

Also during the whole show I have trouble not feeling you there beside us. MISS YOU! Love you guys and glad to get to post a review again, I haven't seen enough shows lately and I am eager for spring west coast tour so we can do this for a few weeks, not just a weekend.
