Forum MVP Tea Posted August 1, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 1, 2013 I am happy to report that the palnets have sufficiently alligned and I will be in Asheville (and possibly Raleigh). The powers that be were less than amenable on Wilmington and Winston-Salem which is indeed a bummer. Wilmington has always given me one of the things I crave at every show: SPACE to move! Oh well > happy for what I have! Lokking forward to seeing everyone! Beers, shine, water, fruit, whatever your poision: I'll share!

Forum MVP Mango Posted August 1, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 1, 2013 I've seen 'how beer saved the world'. they make some compelling points for sure....however, now we have clean drinking water...mostly...maybe someday we'll need to make beer to have drinkable water....return to the middle ages... Forum MVP Rude Posted August 2, 2013 Author Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 This has disintegrated into a southern baptist thread. Jesus will toss down lightning bolts at all you drinkers. Repent now lest ye burn in hell sinners. I however will be enjoying several nice IPA's pre-show. See you at the bar

Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted August 3, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 3, 2013 The Monks (some of the purest people on earth) when faced with the decision of whether to become apricot farmers or beer makers, chose to make beer.
flairblair
obvious choice. who wants to spend all that contemplative time in the shitter?
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted August 3, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 3, 2013 These same monks, aware of the potency of their products (Trappists brew many higher alcohol concentration beers), brew a special style of beer referred to as patersbier, a low alcohol content brew. This is the beer they drink to avoid serious inebriation. You might call it 3.2 beer. They, in theory, do not drink on many occasions outside of certain festivities or social gatherings. They certainly do not drink during their most intense periods of prayer or contemplation. Additionally, Monks use apricots in the flavoring of several of their beers. They are certainly no stranger to the fruit. I would argue that the fruit alone or nothing at all is necessary for them to reach moments of spiritual intensity. Through meditation, I am convinced that they travel on spiritual planes that many here among us need, as Phil would call them, "short cuts" to attain. These monks appear to be pretty contradictory in their choice to use beer as a money making tool, but then again, native Americans run casinos. Star Child's point appears to be that his apricot will do more towards reaching the climax of spiritual intensity than your alcohol will. In fact, we may both argue that the alcohol detracts and moves you away from traveling on this higher spiritual plane. All that being said, neither your apricot or the alcohol is really the medium to which this spiritual enlightenment if you will occurs. I think Tea has said and many have alluded to it, but the real medium for most of this board to that special place of undeniable bliss is the music. The music takes us places that no elixir can achieve. I attend to agree with Star Child that the apricots help with this movement towards bliss, but the music is the driving force. Due to this fact, I know Tea, Sun, and all those deeply involved with this band and music are my brothers and sisters. Time to poor me another cold one. Alabama Getaway
Sun, I have been giving some thought to the dance space issue. I have some skunk cover scent from deer season and feel sure if you make a five foot perimeter circle around where you want to dance you should have no intruders!!! Forum MVP gr8fulpair Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 In fact, we may both argue that the alcohol detracts and moves you away from traveling on this higher spiritual plane. All that being said, neither your apricot or the alcohol is really the medium to which this spiritual enlightenment if you will occurs. Not everyone is looking to travel on a higher spiritual plane, or receive spiritual enlightenment. If either happens, it's a windfall I guess, but I'm not working on staging my environment or consciousness for that specific purpose. I like to swim in the music, hug friends and do whatever feels good. Sometimes that includes alcohol, sometimes fruit, sometimes chocolate. I think to be a respectable partier, you gotta be well rounded.... :-)
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 I can respect your approach. I don't claim to be a saint. I too don't always seek a spiritual experience. Sometimes too much spirituality interferes with party time.
Forum MVP Mango Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 We all came here to claim our spiritual purpose, on a mission- most of us just forget that, or have it conditioned out of us by the rigors of society. Life is not a meaningless sequence of events....if you aren't trying to figure out your higher purpose, some way to help humanity from the obvious hell we are creating, then you are wasting your time. By getting together and dancing and celebrating we are contributing to heaven on Earth. I am in no way saying that drinking alcohol will prevent you from doing so....so don't get up in arms about it. But if you are so quick to defend your use of alcohol I would suggest that addiction is at play. When you are addicted to something like alcohol you are not in control of your own life. There is a lot of pain to be experienced in life(or not)...alcohol is one way to dull the pain(not without side effects). My experience is that the purer my consciousness becomes the more alcohol feels like to poison to me. And pot. I have my own struggles with each. Many of you probably do not have a drinking problem....and I do think that it is possible, though very difficult, to use alcohol responsibly. I also am not claiming to be a saint, but I am on a mission and I am striving to be the absolute greatest that I can be. The promised land is here if we could only realize it....we are god, this is heaven, we are all the angels that we thought we might never find. See y'all in Black Mountain
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 My spiritual journey is a long one. I agree that life is a continuous journey towards bettering oneself. It is important to be better today than I was yesterday. I wouldn't say that booze, weed, or even your precious apricots really help with that. All that being said, life is about moderation. Movement too far too fast in one direction could have counter reactions. I've had several friends get clean and sober. These people experienced months at the top of their game. Eventually their addiction caught up and won. They aren't with us anymore. I seek the middle path. I choose to avoid extremes and absolutes. The only thing I know absolutely is that there is an infinite knowledge left for me to gain.
Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 And oh ya. I'm definitely addicted to DSO. The most irrational of all my behaviors is my constant pursuit of that sound.
Forum MVP GoingBackTo Where.... Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 I already stated I would share a brew with you at Pisgah. Thanks for the report on Apricots. And yes they do make you poop. Some like apples, some like oranges. Its allgood. Anyone else tired of talking about stale beer and dried fruit? I'm probably in for both come North Carolina but that's certainly not what I'm there for. Hope you have a good time MC at Black Mountain. Wont be sharing that drink with you, as I am not heading that way, but please drink a nice IPA and share with some of these Carolina guys!!! They are all good ole boys. Also remember how, where, and when NASCAR was created. You will be in the heart of that country in Black Mountain. Booze is more than alcohol to many down in that area. It was a way of life for the Scotts-Irish---germans...and some others, who were isolated in the Appalachias for centuries They created communities in little hollows for a long time before there was any law. NASCAR is literally a celebration of....FUCK YOU TO THE FEDS!!! These people literally lived off of the land, and used booze for many different things. Its more ingrained in the culture than one would think. I drink beer, but wait till someone shares some of their shine with you:}!!!! I am first to admit I overdo everything. The largest and brightest Stars/Suns are the quickest to burn out...no doubt. Every one here has a good point, and in all honesty, we are all right in one way or another. I could easily argue every angle, not that hard for anyone half way educated........but what I have found is that no matter your feelings about someones use or abuse, its better to let the individual to make their own choices. But really......this is a good conversation. Its been fun reading and engaging you guys. We cant talk GD/DSO all the time....can we:}?
Forum MVP GoingBackTo Where.... Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 Sun, I have been giving some thought to the dance space issue. I have some skunk cover scent from deer season and feel sure if you make a five foot perimeter circle around where you want to dance you should have no intruders!!! Good ole smile on my face. Thanks for the laugh. I tried something similar at dewey. No brushed teeth for several days, peed on myself during the drive up. I don't use rest stops when I have a cup. No need to stop driving, but the last little bits that you cant shake off while driving gets on my shorts. Couple hours later----it starts to smell:} That mixed with, recently, no showers------yea. I had all the space I needed at past several venues:}!!! I could go in any area, and unless you were a dancer, you moved------ and really---skunk covered scent with this crowd. I love the light scent of skunk driving down the road. Many hate it, but reminds me of something very nice. Again thanks for the smile and laugh:}!!! Forum MVP Tom Banjo Posted August 4, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted August 4, 2013 Some may say the most important of the stars know the importance of not burning the largest or the brightest. I will drink 2 IPAs in your honor Sun. I am sorry you will not be making the Black Mountain gigs. Thanks for another history lesson on Nascar and bootlegging. What is this "shine" you make reference too? All kidding aside. Communities with a little rebellion and outlaw built in are some of the finest in America. They seem to remember that rights are real and you don't have to let other's shove their views points down your throats. I like hanging and drinking with good ole boys. They usually have good stories. I am a natural contrarian. I quite often find myself arguing the opposing view for the sake of argument. There is certainly value and elements of truth in all points. Only the most basic or purest of the truths carry any real certainty. Do unto others... For the most part, its the search that counts. Can't wait to get back to the show, although time at home has been good. I'm going to keep on scratching err searching that sound.
