jamminOnThe1
I recently went to see the Black Keys and Flaming Lips in Simpsonville at Charter Cable Amphitheater. I was expecting a lot and was kinda let down by everything. I wonder if I was let down because im used to experiencing DSO shows? I enjoy live music, other bands, and other genres of music and I dont want to be let down everytime I see a show because it doesnt compare to DSO. Has anyone else had this happen? Im sure I'm not the only one
oysterhead
I try not to compare...knowing that the DSO shows are something on a different level..I go to all other shows and just get the most out of it I can..for instance this weekend the wife and I are road tripping it to Tennessee to check out The John Butler Trio...every time we see him its great and I know this time will be no different but to compare to DSO is silly...if you enjoy the artist your seeing take it at that and roll with it

Alabama Getaway
Let me say that I enjoy a domestic light beer, but I LOVE a small batch micro brew. That is the best comparison I can make. ABG
flairblair
good analogy, light beer vs micro brew. I think that kinda sums it up for me too. dso shows to me seem "handcrafted", thought and love put into each show, whereas most other bands I see (or have seen, cause I am so spoiled by dso that I hardly see others knowing ill just be disappointed) have this years show, which was last years show with a couple new songs thrown in. and yes, I do compare, because I think that for my hard earned money, the band should do some work, not just the same shit from last night. dso earns that ticket price, every night. seen them 100+ times- I might not be in love with every show they've ever played, but not for a second do I think they've ever mailed in a performance. I defy anyone to find a band that puts out more effort for our good times. see ya at pisgah

Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted July 15, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 On Saturday we saw Cubensis in Huntington Beach. That counts as a backyard show for me. Anyway, they obviously are under the same umbrella as DSO so it wasn't like a great stretch and change of musical genres. They also never phone it in and play with the same conviction as DSO. Cubensis seems to be recreating shows more often, which is quite a great notion. This weekend we will be taking in the Wallflowers and Counting Crows. It will be interesting to see if that is an exercise in managed expectations.
Forum MVP Rude Posted July 15, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 Going to see El Monstero in St Louis this weekend. Hoping a Floyd show wont be a letdown after seeing DSO 5x this year.

DSO is like seeing my Panthers beat down the Cowboys at the local high school field.
Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted July 16, 2013 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 spoiled. DSO just leaves us all incredibly spoiled. there is no way around it. they sound so great, they put forth all their energy, AND they manage to actually summon/channel/recreate/continue/embody/whatever you wanna call it CONSISTENTLY and magnetically. AND they are not on hard drugs/alcohol AND they are nice people and take time to be considerate to their fans. so many acts are downright RUDE to their fans, or get wasted and play crap shows because of if. even at GD music I get annoyed at NOT DSO.... when I am at Furthur and decide it sucks it's DSO's fault. when I am at JKBand and SUPER impressed bc of the low expectations i walk in with it's DSO's fault. when I see non GD music or even try to listen to it at home I just can't bc it's not GD and to tell the truth LATELY I have been missing Star Child's impressive DSO collection bc I am craving the sound that makes my being light (yes, it's DSO's fault!) DSO does it diff but it sounds SO MY TIMES....... and so some other time's forgotten space.... ahhhhhh....... rainbow full of sound, my friends.... who could ask for anything more?
