don't get me wrong- I love darkstar- but last night (5-18-13-town ballroom- buffalo ny) was a major letdown. I thought the mix last night was terrible- the keyboards were way louder tha jeff most of the time- other than a few songs I think he had a off night- his solos seemed mostly uninspired which was a shame because they opened with a killer here comes sunshine which just knocked me out! it was the best I ever heard them play it and beat it on down the line was killer-- from there on it went downhill very fast. which was a shame because the rest of the band was "on" exspecially rob and kevin ( kevin really shined last night- will miss you terribly)  also  I never went to a concert where the audience was louder than the band- full house and they never shut up! if you just come to socialize the go somewhere else! some people actually like to listen to the music- I couldn't stand it - I left after 1st set---too many weird vibes all night-----------------------------------------------what does anybody else think about people yakking at a concert?

Thanks for your honest input, and here's mine- You're an idiot for leaving. Find another spot. A dark corner. Right next to speaker. I bet the second set was way better. Sorry.

Even if just Rob was on, I would of stayed dancing to his strum.   I could not even imagine leaving a show.   To each there own, and I understand the talking thing, but this music is too prescious, at least for me, to ever walk away when its right in front of me.

Of course I would travel 400miles just to hear a kick as Here comes Sunshine, and leave with a amazing smile on my face, but I am a geek for this shit.....and the more I see......the more of geek I become!!!

Hopefully your next show will present a better experience.

yes I was as close to the speakers as I could get- the whole place was talking thru the whole set- it was like the sound of a thousands insects just chirping away - I couldn't block it out no matter how hard I tried- it was so freaking annoying- I go to see and hear the interaction between the band members-- that wasn't happening-------------I play in a band so I know all about band interaction, I like to hear the quiet parts as well as the loud---like I said - it just wasn't happening-----so if you want to waste your money listening to people ruin the show -great for you-- I just cant tolerate it

I can relate as I totally abhor talking at shows.....makes no sense at all....I would have stayed though.

disregard my comments, I'm an ass :herdy:

btw, it never sounds balance right next the speaker. If you are a musician you should know that.

Rick, you input? How bad was it?

usually love to bury my head in the sound (feel it run down my spine), close to the p.a. somewhere ~ if the sound is that off and the crowd that annoying ... try standing in front of the soundboard ~ if it doesn't sound good there... well, just dance wildly ;)

"so if you want to waste your money listening to people ruin the show -great for you-- I just cant tolerate it"

Two thought come to mind. First, presumably money was already spent on a ticket before you entered the venue, so it was sunk cost whether the place sounded like soccer fans in full riot or you could hear a pin drop. So, why not stick around and see what happens next? You just may think that you ultimately got your money's worth.

Second, few despise talkers more than I do. From the social/business gabfests in LA to the drunken yelling in Jersey, some of us have seen lack of consideration in action. But the music elevates, and dancing transcends. IMHO. I acknowledge that your experience may differ...

I am usually very tolerant of all the shit that happens ---people spilling beer all over you -bumping you- stepping on you---even had a girl throw up all over my shoes--that stuff I expect and can tolerate but not being able to truly hear what the bands doing--not tolerable--------------it was a sold out show --did you ever try and move somewhere else when its shoulder to shoulder? I've been to hundreds of concerts, festivals, but that is the first time I've ever left due to intolerable conditions-----------hell- even weir had to tell people to shut up at a concert

Yes. Yes, I have tried to relocate when the show resembled rush hour on the Tokyo subway. But I'm rather new to the scene, such as it is, so I readily admit that I haven't experienced the full gamut of venues and the deplorable circumstances that I guess one can confront. Sardines in a can screaming at the tops of their lungs? It must have been truly a nightmare in Buffalo. I hope the next time goes better.

Even seeing DSO in a termite mound full of chatty Cathy's is better than...., going back home, or going to the bar down the street, or sitting in the car in the parking lot, or, or, or,... No way in hell I'd ever walk out of a live performance of GD music being played by the DSO. No way, now how, not a chance. I've actually noted over the years that the drunk socialites usually leave (at the latest) about half way through the second set. Surely, there are nuggets to be had despite the most dire of circumstances. Sorry you had a bad experience, that sucks.

One drummer shows also tend to occasionally have slow first sets....but the second sets melt your face. On a number of occasions i've been underwhelmed by the first set and blown away by the second.

After reading Bluesman2's review, I couldn't help but wonder if we were at the same show. Apparently my experience was very different from his. Although probably not the most inspired show DSO has ever done, it was solid nonetheless. The opener was indeed strong, but one of the many highlights of the show was the transition from China to Rider - one of the best I have ever heard by ANY band, including the boys themselves. The Race Is On was amazing, as was the Eyes. The first set seemed to go on forever. As far as the crowd, I could not believe how incredibly respectful they (we) were, particularly considering it was one of the first warm days of Spring and the booze was flowing at an enormous pace. Yes there was some chatter, but what I heard was intelligent and insightful commentary about the music; nothing more, nothing less. Buffalonian heads are a pretty knowledgeable bunch. Ninety-nine percent of the crowd knew ninety-nine percent of the words to ninety-nine percent of the songs, and thems good odds. One more thing just to set the record straight. There never was a War Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo. There was a War Memorial Stadium and a Memorial Auditorium, but War Memorial Auditorium is in Rochester, not Buffalo. A common error only someone born and raised here would take exception to. I'll meet you at the Jubilee.
